Recap: Naked and Afraid XL, Episode 8: “40 Days Filth and Fury”

It’s almost over, we’ve made it to Naked and Afraid XL, Episode 8. Somewhere, what started out as a celebration of our favorite survivalists, has turned into a “warts and all” expose where we realize that our heroes are little more than flawed humans with a very specific set of skills.

We’ve seen strong men and women felled by dehydration, but more surprising, we’ve seen strong people taken down by bullying and mental instability. I didn’t foresee team members turning against and tormenting each other. Did you? It’s disappointing; in the regular two-person 21-day experiences, if you don’t get along with your partner, you’re alone. In N&A XL, people decided that if their partner had “Quirky” the best thing was to cast them out, or better yet, make them quit, because there are plenty of other folks around.

Naked and Afraid XL, Episode 8
Be careful or you may get left behind!

We can blame the actions that we’ve seen on editing, we can blame if on hunger, we can blame it on focusing on “Me” instead of “Team,” but it seems to have damaged the legacies of a few people who were held in high esteem. At least in the opinions of many who’ve been watching Who knows what the participants think?

Naked and Afraid XL, Episode 8
At least he’s honest.

Day 37
8 survivalists remain in the 40-day survival challenge.
We get a look back at the highlights and lowlights of the first 5 weeks. It’s amazing to look back at how much weight some of them have lost. Particularly EJ, who started the challenge with extra pounds on his frame.

The highlight and focus of the next few days will be the grueling extraction where the producers of Naked and Afraid will throw every crappy geography at them imaginable.

Jeff predicts, “Only the strong are going to survive until the end.”
Danielle is hoping that she finished the experience over 100 lbs.

Laura and Luke are hunting, but their teammates are lying around. They see a stingray, but aren’t able to catch it. And to add insult to injury, a monkey peed on her from above.

Naked and Afraid XL, Episode 8
Eeew.

“This is my life,” she laments. “This is more than a little weird.”
On the way back to camp, Luke, whose body is bordering on skeletal, blacks out for a few seconds.

EJ and Jeff are hunting too. They also see a stingray, but their hunt ends successfully. And this time, EJ and Jeff show their food to the six-pack and don’t share. They go to sleep with full bellies.

Day 38
Jeff and EJ plan their extraction route. Their 5-mile route will take them across piranha lake, across a desert covered with basalt rock, across a larger body of water to an island, which they must cross. EJ and Jeff decide to face the extraction as a team of 2, they don’t want to be burdened by any dead weight.

The other team is planning their extraction too and their jaws hit the floor when EJ and Jeff reveal that they’re attempting extraction as a duo. Eva is insulted that her Madagascar “brother” thinks her team has weak links and Chris is mega-insulted.

That night, EJ’s diary confessional wakes up the other camp, who yell snarkily at him.

Day 39
Early in the morning EJ and Jeff skip out of camp. The other group is also up and out early.

Jeff and EJ are first to the lake and have to swim 500 yards through piranha, anaconda and caiman-infested water. There’s nothing like a bracing, life-threatening swim to start your morning off right!

Alana isn’t feeling strong at the start of the journey. Their entire team is starting the journey hungry.

Once Jeff and EJ exit the water they have to near a near-vertical climb and I feel sorry for the camera people who got a view of the men’s undercarriage.

Next, they men have to walk 4 miles across hot, volcanic rocks.

90 minutes later, the other group arrives at the lake. Their swim includes a few nibbles from piranhas and then they start across the hot basalt rocks. They’re all feeling like they’re dragging, and they’re roasting alive! I wish Luke had made his team some sweet sandals.

EJ and Jeff find a few barrel cacti and arrive at the Orinoco River. The other group can head their triumphant yells. The men start building a raft. When the others arrive, Eva decides to put the two men to task for abandoning them. She felt insulted and abandoned by her survival brother. But at the end, she says her piece and walks away.

The 6-pack starts building their own raft and Laura, Eva and Luke look for bamboo and find a caiman. They come up with the plan to throw their bags over its head. The caiman skillfully ducks the bags, but can’t outrun Laura’s spear. They enjoy a caiman dinner while Danielle eats cactus. Alana doesn’t want to share with EJ and Jeff, but Eva uses it as a way to drop it off and deliver notice that her team has no weak links. Revenge is a dish consisting of a reptile’s neck and shoulders.

Day 40

Naked and Afraid XL, Episode 8
I Christen thee, “The Colombian Crusher”

Jeff and EJ have forged “The Columbian Crusher” — a pretty seaworthy-looking boat. EJ shows that just like when he and Laura dominated the Peruvian Amazon in their second N&A appearance, EJ can build boats.
The 6-pack makes a dainty longboard, which takes them only 20 minutes to build. “Work smarter, not harder,” they figure.
The 6-pack launches first — at the river’s narrowest point. Their raft is essentially a kickboard that they’ll push across the swift current.

Naked and Afraid XL, Episode 8
It doesn’t have to be pretty … it doesn’t have to keep them dry … this “raft” only has to keep them alive.

The men head 1/2 mile upstream and hope to use to current to their advantage. Their vessel has awesome oars and they’re much out of the water, riding atop the current, instead of in it.

The 6-pack sees something freaky in the water with them. Is it an anaconda? A giant caiman? Maybe a school of piranha in a feeding frenzy? Nah, their marine danger are river dolphins. But river dolphins are way freakier looking than Flipper.

The current pushes Jeff and EJ’s boat past the island and Jeff has to dig deep to find the energy to finish. Maybe there’s a little energy reserve down in his diaphragm where he stores his yells.

Once they’re across the river, the six survivalists have to walk across scorching sands and they all suffer with dehydration-fueled cramps. But when they see three rescue boats, they find an untapped resource of energy and run — that’s right — they run to the boats!! Their strides are caiman-fueled!

A half hour later, EJ and Jeff wander out onto the hot sand. And when they see the boats, they too start sprinting.

EJ tearfully admits that he can’t wait to see his family.
Danielle is proud of herself for remaining a vegetarian the entire 40 days.
Luke is proud of himself too.

Naked and Afraid XL, Episode 8Once EJ and Jeff arrive on the boat, there are no enemies, and everyone shares big hugs. They’re all family now. A big, awkward family. That hates clothes.

Laura doesn’t seem like she’s ready for her adventure to be over and says, “I would do 40 days again … what the F@#$ is wrong with me?”
Of course, what I’ve been wondering for the last few weeks was how much weight each of the participants have lost …

Weight loss
Danielle 25 pounds
Alana 25 pounds
Laura 38 pounds
Eva 36 pounds
Chris 44 pounds
Luke 43 pounds
Jeff 43 pounds
EJ 73 pounds (Holy cow, EJ! You lost a child!)

XLR
EJ Jeff’s score dipped from 8.5 to 8.4 out of 10.0. Not sure why, but I chalk it up to this number being pretend.
Laura, Luke, Danielle, Eva, Laura, Alana their team approach raises their score from 7.1 to 8.3 out of 10.0. But we know that these numbers are fake and these scores are meaningless.

Naked and Afraid XL, Episode 8

Next week, there’s a reunion special, which is gonna be awesome!! I hope that everyone has had a chance to see how they were portrayed on the show, because I wanna see some fireworks! And if we can’t get fireworks, a few heartfelt apologies would be good too.

  1. Just got done paying bills and paid almost $900.00 in “what if?” bills that I never use; homeowners insurance, car insurance, medical insurance, rx meds, what a waste, (too poor to pay for earthquake insurance in CA). My ex wants to cancel his fire insurance cause he’s never needed it; they’re all money-making “WHAT IF?” bills that cost me way too much money.

  2. KenO:

My ‘best guess’, ids that Danielle stopped any future comments, on her blog, only because, after the reunion show, people saw her even more, for the evil wom, that she IS.
    She was;
    Smug,
    condescending (as always,
& more visibly ‘evil’, toward how she appeared to Shane, & others.

I think, she was afraid of readin more ‘death threats’,..

  3. Good morning KenO, thank you for your support yesterday. Doing the math, I think we’re both the same age (67?). My ex-husband was also 28 when we married (I was 18) and and we also knew each other only 3 months before getting married and stayed married for 20 years and this coming Sunday would be our 49th anniversary had I not decided to “do it myself” at age 40 and divorced him and you’ve already read how drastically that turned out. After almost 50 years together, he is my rock, my sanity, the closest person ever in my life; he saved my life. We are as close as if we were still married, we just don’t live together. I would love to have a new friend with your wife, just to not complicate things. I would love for her to text me at 831-854-8740, desperately need a friend.

    • I also thank Craig, you can text me also if you’d like. 831-854-8740, can always need more friends.

    • Hi KenO, just looking for a new female friend, have none. My friends are my ex-husband, 2 grandsons and 2 male neighbors. I live in a hood which, in 1971, when my husband and I bought these two houses, was a nice family neighborhood. Over the years, more and more white folks sold out and dozens of Mexicans get together to buy a house and now it’s a gang-filled hood with shootings, murders and graffiti all over every one’s fence. Can’t move because my house is paid for and my rental, in the front, is my income so I’m just an Uncle Tom here saying “Ola” and “Buenos Dias” to everyone passing by while thinking, “please don’t rob my house or steal my car”. It sucks but at least I own my home and most of the gang activity is Mexican to Mexican; so far, no one has bothered me but it’s scary and, when my grandson comes to visit, I insist that he not wear a red or blue shirt, gang colors.

    • First, yes we are close to the same age. I’m 69 this month, 9/20/46. Talk about coincidences. We’ll see if we have more. The father of the guitar player in the band I was playing in married us. I wrote the ceremony and we were married outside under a large grove of trees in which we hung over a hundred hanging plants, set for us by our guitar players’ cousin who worked at a nursery. We live in a small home, paid for, in NC with 8 chickens, 3 ducks and 4 cats. We’re vegetarians and have been for all but our first three years together. We’ll text you shortly with our email addresses. Sounds like we have a lot in common, old hippies and all that.

      • Since I was only 18, my future husband and I had to sneak across the state line from Pennsylvania to New York where we were married by Rev. Darling with people I had never met til that night and, after the ceremony, Dick’s truck wouldn’t run so my new husband had to spend the night getting this Oakie’s pickup running and then had to rush off to work. He told me that, after 3 weeks actually, “If you’ll marry me, I’ll take you to California and give you a great life” and he did. To this day, he’s always behind me and I get all the free brake jobs I need 🙂 My ex-husband is a classical pianist and plays sax in a group he formed called “Saxaphonia”. I have 2 cats.

        • KenO, speaking of similarities, I have relatives in North Carolina that I don’t know. My ex-husband’s brother lives there and my mother-in-law too until they spent all of her money and sent her back to a nursing home in PA where she died. 🙁

      • KenO:
saw the website u mentioned,..& I applaud you,..
        you favor the BEST causes!

But, even if I join, there appears to be no way of contacting you.

  4. Shane posted on his blog, a plea for people to stop threatening Alana & Danielle.

    Predictable.
Guess we now know why Alana was hugging Shane for (future protection).

    • On the N&A “Bios” page Danielle has apparently had her comments closed, nothing appears there now. I guess she couldn’t take how people really felt about her. Notice on the “reunion” she didn’t say a word, too afraid to speak, couldn’t find her own voice at all.

      • OBTW, she’s the only one on the whole biography page who’s had her comments closed. As far as anyone issuing death threats, that’s just insane and likely an exaggeration. I’ll bet they’ve had some fairly negative slurs thrown at them but actual ‘death’ threats? I doubt it.

          • I believe death threats are taken quite seriously by the Feds. It would be stupid to use any public forum for posting threats of death to anyone. Probably just couldn’t take being hammered by everyone though Alana doesn’t seem to mind.

      • To ur reply of Death threats taking seriously, by the feds,…..
I disagree, as it depends on how much the ‘load’ is/how much value the feds place on said threats.

        • What mean is,..death ‘threat’,..are mostly empty, but case by case,

Sure the feds take care of more ‘important’ people,..1st,

  5. Wondering if the survivalists read these comments and feel ashamed at how much they’re criticized, chastized and outright hated?

    My opinion:
    Read these comments= yes
Feel ashamed= not in the least!

    • He said on his first 21-day show that his parents ditched him when he was 6, telling him that they “didn’t want him” and he went into foster care and was prescribed Ritilin (sp?) for ADHD and spent the next 13 years in foster/institution care. He told the same story to Alana and Danielle and that he read his psych report when he was 19 and that, according to the report, he should have been a “serial killer” at this point.

      • I’m currently reading “The Rise of the 4th Reich” by Jim Marrs and he explains that many of the mass shootings were committed by people who took ritalyn and went off their meds. “Dr. Julian Whitaker stated “Virtually all of the gun-related massacres that have made headlines over the past decade have had one thing in common: they were perpetrated by people taking prozac, Zoloft, Luvox, or a related antidepressant drug.”
Personally I refuse to be tempted by pharmaceuticals of any sort. I don’t even take aspirin. I feel for Shane, he’s really confused and that he could stand up for Alana and Danielle proves how confused and still in need of the smallest amount of positive reinforcement he can get. One hug from Alana and he’s over the moon.

        • I’ve read that methadone was “invented” during WWII when a German scientist had to figure out a way of supplying the armies pain killers since morphine was in short supply. It has since become a “pain killer” to millions of people as well as a way to get off of heroin. Unfortunately, my daughter got hooked on heroin, tried methadone and is now hooked on heavy doses of methadone every day. Methadone is big business in the US, making pharmaceuticals millions of dollars. It’s also more addictive than heroin and harder to kick.

          • He also had Parkinson’s disease which made his hands shake in case you ever see a close-up of him during speeches and was on dozens of meds including meth, but, of course, that’s okay since it’s prescribed by a DOCTOR; watch the Anna Nicole Smith bio and see how she could have been saved had her “private” physician and “bodyguard” had taken her to the hospital instead of dumping her in a cold bathtub.

        • I recently read online that a 5-year old entered kindergarten with the name “Adolf Hitler” and the school sent him home and told his parents they would not re-admit him til they changed his name, what do you think? Of course, the parents are idiots trying to subject this young child to the worst name in the world. Any comments?

  6. I did something last night that made me very happy; DELETED every XL episode from my DVR; whew, glad that’s over. Looking forward to a new and better season with more 21-day shows. This 40-day thing got to be too dreary.

    • I got so addicted to the show that I saved every episode and would watch over and over and trying to keep track of ALL the XL episodes in order and spent more time with the “Bad Girls of Columbia” than anything else. After reading all the comments this week, I’m so glad I got this “monkey” off my back. Craig, in answer to your question about how Danielle responded to Charlie’s intimate touching (on the 21-day episode), she just sat there with that stupid silly smile and didn’t seem to mind at all.

      • In looking for something else to watch now that I have detoxed from N&A XL, a blast from the past came on the Directv menu. Anyone remember Timothy Treadwell, known as the Grizzly Man? He spent every summer for over 10 years in Alaska trying to save the grizzlies (and avoiding the park rangers) and was so nuts he made the N&A team look sane. It’s airing tonight, 9/8, at 11:30 pm on the Sundance channel (Ch 557 on Directv). After watching him scream and swear and swear even more into his own camera, you almost feel happy when the meanest ass grizzly there eats him and the rangers cut the bear open and there was little Timmy 🙂 Watch if you get a chance.

          • That’s right Kelly, he dragged her along although she was hardly ever filmed. He left his camera on but only audio so there is no film, just audio screaming as Timmy and his girlfriend were the grizzly’s lunch.

          • Laura,…how w you react, to to a new date,..that w ask you, “let’s spend this summer, together, hand feeding grizzly bears”,..?

          • Laura=

            Ooh!

I gotta ask you this,..what (specifically, I mean ) are worst losers than him(critical question)?

          • None of the guys on the show would be someone I’d ever be interested in. EJ is too bossy and I wouldn’t want to be around him when he gets pissed, Jeff is too much of a showman, Chris hates women, and Luke would be accepted in Santa Cruz but I don’t like white guys with dreads. We have lots of rasta men here (cause Santa Cruz grows the best pot). As for Shane, he’s too weepy and pathetic cause he had a bad childhood; get over it, he’s 40 now. My grandson is recovering from 8 years of nasty foster care and doing very well.

          • Personally, the worst loser I was ever involved with was a tall, dark charming man I met in Tacoma on a trip to see the Canada geese in Seattle. We stayed in contact and he came to visit with a one-way ticket and I had a great job working for a judge in Superior Court when I found out he was a junkie. It took him 6 months but he finally got me to “try it” and I became a junkie overnight, quit my job, eventually losing my beautiful home, my car, my children and newborn grandson and moved with him to Tacoma to spend the next 2 years shooting dope every day. Fortunately, with the aid of my ex-husband, recovered and have never gone back and that was 20 years ago. 🙂 Now I’m too scared to get involved with anyone.

          • Laura:

I, for 1, don’t have enough praise, for the way you replied.

            Your are/,,..& were,..a class act!!!!
            🙂

            Seriously!

          • Craig, now that I’ve poured out my life to everyone reading, would you be interested in any of the women on XL? It’s a nasty 93 degrees here and totally miserable. You must be cool in the city. I remember a quote that John Steinbeck said “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco”. So, about the Bad Girls of Columbia, any one spark your interest?

          • Laura I appredite your diret question to me, & value it.

The closest person I w have any relationshiup with, of the XL cast, w be Dani.

BUT, althought I thought of her as ‘sweet’,..not even her,.because, she accepted the apologies,..way too easily, on the renunion show,..& therefore,..would accept any falling out with an ‘old boyfriend’,..instantly, if her & I were involved.

            Does that make sense?

          • Laura,.

If some guy messed u up, & it’s been 20 years,..stay AWAY from the psychologist/psychiatrist’s, cause they are the ones keeping you sick/afraid!

          • Not accepting an apology, however strained and phony it is, only makes you look worse. Best to accept it with the thought that “This apology is bullshit, but I’ll accept it in the hopes that it makes a difference to the moron.” I wouldn’t have accepted it myself nor the hug from Alana who I would have told “I’d rather eat crushed glass than get a hug from you.”

        • In response to your question about dating Timothy Treadwell, I don’t think I would date him again after being chewed up by a bad-ass grizzly 🙂

          • Wow, Laura, I’m really impressed, really. You’ve got serious inner strength. Good for you. My wife and I have been married for 40 years this December, we have been best friends the whole time. When I met her I was 28 and was terrified of getting married again because of what happened the first time. Deb and I knew each other for 3 months before we got married and we’ve been together, inseparable ever since. It’s never too late to give love a chance, you never know. Good luck to you, you deserve it…..

    • No Laura, I wouldn’t be interested on any women from the XL challenge, except for Dani (& I don’t think it would last,..gut feeling).

      From 21 day challenges?
Maybe,…but no one come to mind, as I can’t remember them.

      • besides,….I couldn’t handle a woman that might go off at any future time, naked, & spoon with a strange man.

        • You’re right; as Chris (or Luke) said, “a crazy mad woman walking around pissed off with a machete in her hand”, I would stand back.

    • I’m with you on that. Clearing out the DVR this am. Felt just like when I quit smoking 29 years ago. Getting rid of bad habits, refreshing.

  7. the only thing for certain is the show is elaborately staged by the producers. why bring on Honora when she did not even passed her first trial, all the while emphasizing that these XL contestants were successful veterans? Answer, she had a high probability of going bonkers if placed in the “right group.”. Grouping them in sets of three almost guarantees an odd person out. As one viewer discovered, the site was not as large or as hostile as advertised, but the voice over would announced that “the group of 7 walked 4 hours on the volcanic rock” (i did wonder how they had the endurance of walking 4 hours in the bloody sun while half starved). noticed how one group, after catching a substantial meal, would be interrupted by a member or members of the other group. catching food was a rare event, so also being interupted during a meal pushed that probability to under 1%. yet it happened twice, the first time when the first eel was caught, and the clan just finished their trek and when the clan caught the stingray and E.J. happen to sauntered by. the supposed weight loss looks to be exaggerated. E.J lost 75 pounds, really? And the woman who tapped out at the end (Dani?), she looked pretty fit. to be fair, they all did loose a significant amount of weight, were half starved, endured an unpleasant environment, and this brought out the dark side of many of the players, to the delight of the producers. reminds me of Animal Farm. Lastly, i do believe the electric shocks received were real. probably won’t watch again.

    • Yeah, Honora.
      She’s a feisty little cuss.
      She’s got spunk.
      Gotta luv her.
She didn’t back down, or take any shit from anyone, at the reunion.
      I like her.

        • I agree, KenO.
She continues to stand up to Chrissy,..without hesitation,….which is tons in my book,..AND, even in a group situation.

I think Kim Richards, from the show ‘The Real Housewives’,..should play her in the movie version of ‘Naked & Afraid, XL’,…

          Hulk Hogan could play E.J.
          Tom Cruise w play Jeff
          Nicholas Cage= Chris
          Denzel Washington would play Hakim
          Liam Neeson would play Shane
          Rosie O’Donell w play Alana
Satan, Prince of darkness, would play Danielle,

          etc,..

        • Gary Busey, as 1 of the show’s survival trainers.

Brent Spiner (formerly of Star Trek, the Next Generation),..playing the same character he played in the movie ‘Independence day’ (e.g., the ‘hippy scientist’) playing ‘Luke’.

          • Do they really have trainers? At the beginning of each show, the narrator says they have been put through rigorous “mental, physical and psychological” testing? How do half of these screwheads even pass?

          • Dani J is welcome back in Santa Cruz where we both live. In her first challenge, she told her partner she was from Santa Cruz and he said, “oh, you must be a tree-hugging hippie”. We’re not all hippies but do enjoy living in Santa Cruz; that’s why Dani was so happy to see the river otters. We have tons of sea otters in the harbor and up the coast and are very happy to see them lying on their backs eating clams, crabs and, unfortunately, the treasured abalones.

          • “How do half of these screwheads even pass” That’s the best….love it. I think the ‘test’ is a written test, multiple choice and open book. It’s designed to be able to assign them their phony PSR’s. Kind of like grade school kids on a baseball team all winning trophy’s. Still, I’d trust Dani J. on a survival trek before I’d trust anyone else.

  8. I’ve seen SOOO much suspicious/& likely misleading info, that, I see myself to stop watching ANY of these Naked & Afraid’s,..xl, or any other.

I don’t like to be TRICKED!

And,..these people, on the XL show,..will likely be back,..but, I for 1 do NOT trust most of them!

    • The ones I trust the most, are the ones that did NOT complete the 40 day challenge!

The rest are below the lowest ‘sub-humans’ (unfortunately), on earth!!!

        • KenO, what’s your preference,….21 day, or 40 days challenges?

I am undecided,…but I’d stopped watching the 21-day ones,…then, was attracted to watch the entire 40 day one.

1 thing I saw, that being that the 40 day 1 really brought out more of what ‘evil’ is really like.

It sifted out, unfortunately, what’s really out there (in society).

It taught me, to look for certain characteristics (kinda like, a refresher course) & to be careful more.

I also thought the ‘Apologies’ were lame.

          • Now that I’ve seen the 40-day, I am anxious to go back to the 21-day survival with just one man and one woman who have no choice but to get along, tap out or continue hating or loving each other just to make the 21 days. On the 40 days, it turned into a nasty soap opera bringing out the worst in the survivalists, nasty, bitchy, did I mention nasty, dickheads. So much of it HAD to be fake; how could a vegetarian live for 40 days on nothing but dried mangoes and some almonds when everyone else was dying from lack of protein, where was Danielle’s protein.

          • Craig, I prefer the 21 day. They’re over in one episode. And yes, I quite agree the apologies were phonier than a three dollar bill, forced and more to try to make the perpetrators (Alana and Eva) look better. Luke’s apology (can we even call it that, he was dancing so fast I think he lost his place twice) was particularly sad.

          • I agree with Laura, I was excited to see old favorites on the 40-day experience, but I missed meeting new people each episode and being done with them after an hour.

          • Kellie, I was excited to see them as well and then really let down by them all, one after another. E.J. and Laura were our favorites but they failed miserably as humans and survivalists…..Big high’s, bigger lows.

    • Good morning Craig, I answered your question about how Danielle felt about constantly being touched (fondled?) by Charlie and she didn’t seem to mind at all, just had that same silly smiley face on.

  9. Just watched the Naked and Afraid XL finale and was pleased that several of the survivors expressed their feelings, especially Shane & Dani. I still feel disappointment with the character of many of the survivors, actually, with most of them. Even after rest, relaxation & makeup, Alana was still very unattractive & ill natured & Chris wasn’t able to defend his unkindness to several of the women.
But all said, I still love the show & look forward 2 the next season. Naked and Afraid is my favorite reality show.

    • There’s a lot of innuendo buzzing around in the background. Dani B. has implied that Dani J. did something during the filming that caused the other members of the group to distrust her, but that they cannot discuss the details because of a non-disclosure term in their contracts. You can take that for what it’s worth, which for all I know may be nothing.

Given Chris’s statements and demeanor during the reunion, it occurred to me that the group’s sentiments may have arisen from the belief that Dani J. was successfully finding food during her solo treks but was not bringing it back to share with the group.

      • Chris I wish, would drop off the face of the earth!
He is Soooo hateful, under, all conditions, where ANYBODY doesn’t agree w him!

He is the main ‘wrench in the works’!

    • I am also looking forward to the new season in October, hope it’s just 21 days, this 40-day thing was awful. At the reunion, Alana broke down and hugged teary-eyed Shane BUT NEVER apologized for being such a bitch. I think that, since everyone was so malnourished for lack of protein, how the hell did cute smiley face Danielle make it eating nothing but dried mangoes and a few almonds, impossible.

        • SEX has not been brought up; however, I saw 25-year old Danielle’s first 21-day stint with 52-year old Charlie who could not keep his hands off of her. During filming, he was always hugging her tightly and, even in front of the cameras, rubbing his hands all over her back. What single 52 year old man wouldn’t want to be stranded in the jungle with a beautiful 25 year old? Since the film crew went home every night, I can only imagine what went on. Anyone ever think about that?

          • RU sure the crew leaves at night?

I read 1 participant recently stated, that 1 of the problems w being w naked women, was, that he couldn’t go off & masturbate, due to the film crew so close.

          • Hi Susan, it was mentioned several times that the film crew leaves in the evening and comes back in the morning. I’m sure they’re close by though and listening to the diary cams in case a medic has to be called in.

          • Susan, if the film crew actually leaves for the night, who is filming the predators circling their shelter?

          • Yes Laura,..who films those predetor shots?

Doesn’t look like the contestants ( &, if I were there, & I awoke to a poss dangerous animal nearby,..I sure as hell wouldn’t grab a camera,……..even if the producer instructed me to before the challenge).

But, I always take w a grain of salt,..what they want they want us to believe the challenge rules are,..& what they really do, without telling us.

This backs up what that guy said about no masterbating privacy (wonder how they handle not being watched when they take a dump,..esp the women?).

          • The show has suggested that the cameras are (a) the cameras operated by the film crew, (b) stationary cameras set up to film certain shots whether or not the crew is present, and (c) diary cameras issued to the participants.

  10. So when the team of six arrives close to the extraction point someone says “there’s a cooler” when they went behind some bushes, what’s that about?

    • I watched one 21-day episode with Darrin, the rat ka-bob king, and his snobby Park Avenue partner, Sandra or something, a vegetarian who said, if she ever ran into Darrin on the street, she would totally avoid him. Anyway, she was starving and eating hardly anything BUT, HOWEVER, on Day 21, I saw a whole string of bananas sitting behind her, where did they come from and why wasn’t it mentioned that she had bananas? By the way, their rescue vehicle was a banana truck. ?????

      • Sorry all, I was totally mistaken about that show; watching it now and it’s all about bananas, oops 🙁

  11. Hey Naked And Afraid XL fans! Did you think it was awesome how Team Alpha Male proved their hunting skills while The Team of Seven starved? Well, it seems Jeff and EJ may have had a little extra help. Shane Lewis – whom you’ll remember tapped out so as not to burden his team any further – helped them out in his final days in ways that didn’t involve testing potentially poisoned water. Shane confessed in a Facebook private message to an anonymous source that he raided one of the camera crew’s food lockers and stashed it for his teammates Jeff and EJ to use after he left.

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/COKZrPBU8AA4SpU.jpg:large

Spread the word folks. The Alpha Males cheated!

    • Ok.
Here are my thoughts on this:
1- How can we confirm your image page is genuine/not ‘created’?
2- If Shane had taken a humungous stash that big, somebody should have noticed all that stuff missing.

    • But, also, more importantly, at this point:-
Given that this ‘Competition’ (and I use the term loosely), was not for a money prize,..and

-Given the strong ‘Anti-Team of 6 sentiment,…..do you really think that these news would make a difference in general public opinion?

      • Apparently some people do — otherwise they wouldn’t be pushing the story. As an alternative theory, it’s also possible that the people who are pushing the story believe that they can somehow make themselves look better by tearing down the most popular participants.

The timing — for an exchange that supposedly occurred in April to be revealed days before the reunion special — is interesting.

      • Susan, Is there such a thing as a “Facebook private message to an anonymous source?’ I was only on Facebook one year and am/was unaware of any “private message”capability on Facebook?

        • I know on facebook, you choose via ur privacy settings,..who can message u, see your posts, etc.,..but don’t know if this protects others seeing messages u send to someone.

Shane, could have also been joking w. someone,& they left out the part where his message says ‘just kidding’,….. who knows

          • Thanks Susan for the Facebook information. I quit FB because I was getting more “social” messages than I had time to handle. I live and learn! It would be very much like the loose cannon (Shane) to make a “joke” as you speculate.

    • A guy named Russell Sage, who claims to have dated Alana, has been pushing that image… hard. He claims that it came from Dani B. Honora has also been pushing the story, but she deletes and revises so much of the material she posts it can be difficult to follow her story from hour to hour. There are two very different versions of the image. The text is the same, but the formatting is different and the graphics are different. Jeff Zausch has publicly denied the claim.

Honora has suggested that Luke cheated by getting some sort of home-brewed anti-malarial drug, that Dani B. cheated because she took prescribed B vitamins, that her partner on the first venture cheated because he took ADHD medication…. She has complained that she was sabotaged by the show because the producers would not let her take a salt/electrolyte supplement (Gatorate?) throughout N&A XL, something she calls her “kidney medication”. She’s an odd duck.

Given that Dani B. has been repeatedly identified as the source of the screen capture, and given that Alana supposedly dated Russell Sage, it’s interesting that neither of them are willing to come out in public and back his story. Dani B. has suggested that various participants cheated or did awful things, but is refusing to provide any specifics.

      Possibilities….

      1. The entire thing is fake, because the producers wanted to get some extra buzz going before the reunion show.

      2. The entire thing is fake, because some less successful contestants are jealous of some of the more successful contestants.

      3. Shane was bragging to somebody he thought was his friend, and was exaggerating.

      4. Shane was testing somebody he thought might be his friend, but whose actions toward him during the show had been troubling, to see if she would keep a juicy rumor to herself.

      5. Shane was sharing his experiences with somebody he thought was his friend, following her assurance that it would just be between the two of them.

      • I totally agree with all your points Arron.

Also, if the info on Jeff & EJ having all that food stashed somewhere, then the film crew would have also had to have seen them eating it, no matter what, at some points, as everyone is scrutinized so closely thruout the challenge, apparently (& if they saw e’m, & didn’t report it,.OR, the people in charge there didn’t care,..then I guess it’s acceptable that they cheated).

        • It’s been mentioned many times that the film crew leaves for the night and comes back in the morning which I think is bullshit because they have filmed many predators, like the puma, circling the shelter during the night, people waking up in the middle of the night hearing noises, tending fires at 3am; they have to be there.

          • Oh, yeah,..that’s their favorite part,..to keep us in suspense.
What I hate is,..that 100% of the time,…nothing happens when they return from commercial,..so, I’m on to them.

      • I think you make great points Aaron. If I had to guess, I would say your possibility #3 is a likely scenario. Given Shane’s history, I assume it’s difficult for him to know when he can trust someone. And given the way he and Dani B got along during the challenge, it’s suspect that she would want to befriend him at all. Maybe he’s trying to impress her. Maybe he thinks it will make her become his friend. I think it’s difficult for him to read people when he’s had the life he’s had.

More importantly, my issues with him stealing the food and Jeff and EJ eating the stash are simple. If he had stolen the food 3 days before he tapped out, why would he still tap out? Wouldn’t that have been enough to help him regain his energy? Also, if Jeff and EJ were eating peanut butter and Oreos, but especially peanut butter, wouldn’t it smell? Laura admitted on social media that the groups interacted more than what was shown, and peanut butter leaves a strong smell after eating it. I think the scent would be stronger since they’ve been away from real food for so long, and the others would have noticed.

Also, Russell Sage claimed on Twitter that Shane sexually harassed Alana, if that were true, why would Dani B befriend him after the taping of the show? Something doesn’t add up.

BTW, it was heartbreaking to see Dani J cry as she confronted her group. Only Luke and Eve apologized. What about the others? Pretty gross the way they treated her on the show and at the reunion, especially Dani B and Alana not apologizing. If she did something bad, could it have been worse than the accusations against Shane? I mean really, Alana hugged Shane yet could say sorry to Dani J.

        Just my thoughts.

        • Pretty well put ‘justlistening’. Better to have no apology than to have a phony apology. Alana hugged Shane because she realized just how bad she looked. It wasn’t a genuine hug for Shane it was an “Oh my God I really look horrid, how can I make myself look better”, nothing more from a self-centered, condescending bitch. Her little crony, Danielle just smirked her way through as well. Eva, giving an apology to Dani was just as phony and you’ll notice Laura didn’t say a word. Luke fumbled through in his attempt at making it appear that it was all ok and their faults were only a result of how bad the circumstances were. Bullshit. The circumstances brought out the true nature of the contestants, they didn’t cause them.

          • The reunion gave me a new opinion, & viewpoint on Danniele,….I hate her with a passion BEYOND my hate for Alana,.now.

        • Justlistening:

          You’re a GOLDMINE (like KenO),..as I agree with everything u said/my thoughts exactly!

        • Dani looked beautiful during the reunion compared to the others; Danielle was chubby and had a double chin; Honora and Eva looked like they hadn’t washed or combed their hair since the end of the show and Alana was just as ugly as ever. Not even all those pretty tatts make her look nice. By the way, she advertises herself as a “Texas Ranch Girl”; what is that? Does she work on a ranch shoveling horseshit all day, does she rope cows or tend the chuckwagon? What is a “Texas Ranch Girl” anyway????????

          • ,..A woman in Texas that likes ‘Ranch dressing’,…..I dunno.

She also is supposed to be a ‘makeup artist’,..but, strangely enough, wore very little (while Danielle wore lots/looked beautiful, sitting next to her.

Maybe she means, she’s good at ‘making things up’,..eg,..”makeup artist’.

            Now THAT, I could believe!

          • I could solidly believe, that she fell into horseshit,…..if she was shoveling it,…based on all those sourpuss looks, & facial expressions she gives all the time.

    • And,..exactly, HOW did you get this information (let’s assume it’s true)?

Did Shane have it publicly, or privately, on a facebook message.
I may be keener than most,..but I have always known that on any reality show,..that there can be ‘spies’ (people, that, pretend to be your friends,..esp., for the pumping of tidbits of ‘secret/under the table’ info,..that, if they are bribed, or, just want something they can sell or use against you, in the future,.even blackmail,…they’ll do so at the proper time(s).

Wouldn’t be surprised if a pretty girl sidled up to Shane, & did the above.

      • Um, I’m calling BS on more than half of it all. Shane’s a loose cannon alright but when they sign a non-disclosure agreement there is serious money involved. For example, just on Kids Chopped, a simple tv show about kids cooking against kids, the non-disclosure agreement carried a several hundred thousand dollar penalty. As far as Alana being “sexually harassed” I’ll just have to laugh at that one, she would call a sideways glance sexual harassment given her statements that there are a thousand ways to look at something.

        • Since Food Network Star ended (my daughter and I watched it together and compared notes on Monday am), we were looking for something new to watch and, since her kids are 4 and 7, we decided to watch Kids Cooking on Monday at 5 and I could only watch one show before giving up after seeing 9 year olds crying cause they fucked up their 30-second video and seeing another kid almost cry when muscle man Robert Irvine eliminated him. Too much pressure for these kids; they’re only babies. Never watched it again. Now waiting til October for the new N&A and the sexy winner of FNS, Eddie Jackson, to start airing.

      • Here’s what has been posted on Shane’s “Facebook” page, whether he actually did it or not:
“Between me & you, I stole 3 jars of peanut butter. A 5 lb bag of trail mix. 8 packages of ores a loaf of bread 6 bags of chips. Frosted flakes mini-box. At least 12 packages of pea-nuts. A 5 lb bag of trail mix. The last three nights I was there. Stashed it for jeff and e.j. They told me the stash lasted until day 38.”
If he was stupid enough to do that and then post it on facebook he’s likely facing a serious lawsuit from the producers of the show. We’re talking mega-stupid here, not just an “oops” moment.

        • Oh, yeah totally agree on the degree of ‘stupidness Shane w have achieved.

          It could go that way.

          We may never know.

Cause, even if the producers knew about stashing food, they might want to keep Shane around for future ratings, rather than sue him.

        • Nobody has suggested that the statement attributed to Shane was publicly posted by Shane. The suggestion was that it was part of a private exchange between Shane and Dani B., made last April.

      • I love how ‘shy & reserved’ you are, in how you say things , Laura,…LOL.

I totally agree with you, (re sexual favors, or promises, for food/support),..& have been thinking the same thing possible, in all the challenge types.

  12. Kellie,
Despite the contrived nature of all these “survival shows” and the fantasy derived from them; man is utterly dependent on agriculture and animal husbandry. I once saw Archaeological estimates that the earth would only support an estimated 25 to 50 million people as hunter gatherers. Watching the show I can see none of our “expert survivalists” making the cut in a truly primitive band.

    • That is quite obvious. Even these “qualified” (ahem) survivalists were days away from death by starvation and all exhibited the classis signs of starvation.

      • KenO=

        Honest question:

Did you think that the ‘controller’s’ of this series would really let (at least by their estimates),..someone actually die.

Given,..even if ‘yes’, they could still ‘mis-calculate’,..then REALLY be in a legal fix)?

        • No, Susan, I don’t believe they would. Not that accidents can’t happen but they keep pretty tight control over things. That said I’m not sure that if the 6 pack were attacked by Piranha’s in the middle of the river they could have done much about it.

          • The voice over suggested that the biggest dangers were in the shallow water near the shore — snakes and caiman. Piranhas are actually unlikely to try to eat an animal as large as a human unless it is dead or dying. That’s not to say I would stick my hand into a tank or pond filled with hungry piranhas, because they can deliver a nasty bite, but they don’t behave in real life like they do in the movies.

If a school of piranhas was likely to pose a danger to swimmers crossing the water, the producers would have either eliminated the crossing or they would have ensured that the teams crossed in a manner that would protect them from the danger.

          • So, who was filming the piranhas underwater and feet paddling through crocodile waters? You don’t think there was the film crew with a loaded rifle just in case a croc ever came close to them? We would probably never see that.

        • On one 21-day episode, 44-year old Mara contracted malaria and was shown in the hospital with recovery not expected for months, maybe years. Does the show pay for her medical bills; suppose she doesn’t recover, does she sue the show, how horrible for her, I really liked her.

    • It would be interesting to have a show that involved an attempt to create a sustainable community, but that’s not what N&F is about — N&F is about getting through 21 days (and in the latest version, 40 days) of deprivation. The show is set in places that are not particularly fit for human habitation, or that are fit during some seasons but much less so in the seasons in which the show is filmed — timing and conditions that in most cases would have historically led to migration.

The tactics you would apply in a “create a sustainable community in a hostile environment” are very different from those you would apply in a short-term survival challenge.

      • Ummm. Huh? I do not see how your reply to my post is relevant. My post was simply stated with two premises. You present a new set of premises and arguments that have only oblique (if any) relevance to my two premises. Since You are replying to my post, I will tell you that everything you say in response to your own premises is already known to me. If you want to share you knowledge and premises, make it as a post of your own. That would be honest.

        • I’m not actually concerned with whether or not you understand what I write. Others here very clearly understand the points I’m making.

          • Actually, no, we don’t. We’re not even sure you understand what you’re writing about, you seem to be all over the place.

          • KenO, I recognize that with your contempt for facts that conflict with your preferred narrative of personal attacks, you have repeatedly become hostile when confronted with your errors, but really….

You and J.C. need to grow up.

          • Says the person attacking J.C. and myself. Wow, buddy, you’ve got some serious problems. By the way, best not to post after your third drink.

          • Yet again, KenO presents a childish personal attack that has nothing to do with the facts.

            Thanks for proving my point.

  13. So, here’s the latest. Parts of the “Reunion” are up now here: http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/naked-and-afraid-xl/
Scroll down to “Too much tension” and watch Alana dance around what she did to Shane. What an evil chick. Got to admit her response, right after watching what she did, was classic “Well there are many ways to look at it”….Duh? She’s just out of hand and she’s done it so many times in the past in different situations she has her act down pretty pat unless you’re really good at seeing through her.

    • Further she states “In your perception that’s exactly what was happenin, we were trying to make the best of a struggling situation and you didn’t want to join us.” Wow, just wow. She put’s it all on Shane, what a condescending bitch.

      • KenO,
You are a smart and perceptive man and I am certain you are not surprised by Alana’s actions in the reunion. I am not talking down to you! Blame the victim. During the show Alana’s actions reminded me of the Jodi Arias trial. Arias absurd 21 hour testimony only proved that she was a sociopath liar. She would have everyone believe that; By dumping her, her boyfriend (Scott) had forced her into killing him. Sociopaths (label by Arias lawyer) have no friends, they have victims and accomplices.

        • You are correct, I am not surprised at all. I’m sure that the same attitude will be displayed by Chrissy from what I understand about him and from what I’ve seen in a short ad on TV. No, not surprised at all, more like suspicions confirmed. N&A XL is a supreme disappointment.

          • Also, did you notice how Alana’s sidekick never said a word? There’s not going to be much to really watch here in the Directors attempt to do whatever they’re doing. This entire series was an epic fail, a failure on the part of the “survivors” since none of them displayed any skill other than how to starve in the jungle and back bite their partners. What a sad group.

          • KenO, I noticed. Her condescending nature and an ” I am above all of you”attitude is the only thing real about her except for her “chicken legs.”

    • Picture this KenO/everyone:

Both Alana & Danielle, sitting there, as ‘Hitler Youth women”,…& both in Nazi uniforms.

Then Danielle, after being so silent, being pressed by the announcer/moderator,..as to WHY she joined in in treated people so cruelly.

I can picture her responded (with a German accent),…” I was only following orders, of Mine Furer (looking over at Alana & Chrissy)”!

      • Right on Susan, she was the sweetest looking bitch in the bunch, didn’t say much but went along with nasty-ass Alana in being cruel to Shane and subsequently Dani. She must have had lots of vegetarian food when she got home cause she had a fat double chin and looked chubby.

          • Laura, & Craig,..the way Danielle was dressed & made up, at the reunion, to me, made it tons more easy to see the evil that she was/is.

Like most bullies, gang/mob members, etc., she would ‘cave’, on a one on one, with someone that w stand up to her/pressure her.

She would likely chicken out/want to leave the room, even in a question/answer session, if someone drilled her.

To me, she might be the most ‘dangerous’ of the group, because she hides behind her ‘innocence & looks’.

  14. Oh, and this “Piranha Lake” camp site is only 1,700 m (1 mile) from the Orinoco River down the ‘lake’ and only 11.6 km from Puerto Carreco (also called Puerto Carreno), with a population of over 13,000, a paved airport, and military base. With all the good fishing on the Orinoco I would be surprised if they did not hear outboard motors a lot and planes on final approach to the airport.
    https://fishquest.com/Quest.asp?Option=TripDetail&Detail=231
    or

recognize the rocks in the video?

  15. Well, I have now had a good look at Google Earth and the Bosque where Shane, Alana and Danielle stayed before moving to Pirhana Lake at “El Bosque” 6 deg 03 ‘ 08.71 ” N, 67 deg 30’ 13.02 ” W, is NOT 7 miles to SW of “Piranha Lake” it is 3.45 miles from where they eventually camped. If you know sat images it is clear it is in an old mango and cashew apple nut planted grove. While cashew nuts are native to and are grown in Columbia, mangoes were brought in by the Spanish from India in the 1600’s, so clearly cultivated. By the way getting cashew nuts takes a bit of prep as the skin of the apple is poisonous and nuts need to be roasted before eating. Site no doubt chosen for benefit of Danielle, so again relatively little weight loss from being set up there. Did any episode actually show gathering and prep of mangoes and nuts? A house is 2.33 km due east of this location.

Where the group of 5 came from, likewise, there is a house about 1 km away. Typically, in these areas and in many rural parts of Mexico, where there are, or were houses, there are many huge mango trees. They still had to cut and dry them but these spots were set up, and near human settlements, not in extreme remote areas. And yes they still had to obtain food but psychologically not out on a limb, except for having to deal with others in group. Some could deal with it and others not Look on this show as an interesting way to diet.

    • I’ve gotten SICK, as how much Discovery Channel, AND, it’s producers of this show, have been TRICKING US?

      ANYONE ELSE feel this way??

      • example:

They ALWAYS cut from a commericial, lastly showing a ‘life or death,..or SERIOUS INJURY’,..but then, com back to show it was FAKE!

      • I’m disappointed with Discovery for dumping half the cast on Mythbusters (Tori, Grant and beautiful Kari). Why did they do that; they were the greatest part of Mythbusters, especially Kari who participated while very very pregnant. Don’t even watch it anymore; let Jamie and Adam try to carry the show all by themselves.

    • The world has been populated for a very long time. You will find vestiges of prior settlement and agriculture pretty much anywhere that you go, more so in places that have survivable environments. I’m not sure what you expect.

    • Obtaining food (and , shelter, etc.), but,..& psychologically, not out on a limb,, is also a great way to describe many in this challenge, as well!

  16. I dislike the way the 6 pack chased bullied off one team member as if the were high school tormentors/bullies for not doing enough to help out and all they have been doing is laying around eating off EJ and Richard. They shared 3 eels with this ungrateful group. They caught a caiman and gave them scraps. They are the worst of the worst. They didn’t even acknowledge why they were going to share. They couldn’t voice that they would have had to tap out if they hadn’t been hand fed by those two. I’m disgusted at the selfish ungrateful manner in which they handed over the scraps.

    • Not to mention the fact, Rita, that poor EJ, walked in, while the group of six was feasting on food they caught, sitting around a campfire, and didn’t offer him a thing!

Can’t figure out why Jeff continued to share with them, after that incident.

      • His ego, it’s the only reason he shared. Every time he walked into their camp they were like puppies getting fed. They showed him so much adoration that he literally couldn’t stop. It had nothing to do with how “Christian” he was and everything to do with his ego.

          • Not on facebook but I’m on the Care2 network as KenO. See if you can find me there but you might have to set up an account. It’s free and very worthy place…Thank you.

        • And yet… he did stop sharing.

The biggest problem with your posts, KenO, is that you ignore any facts that conflict with your preconceptions. You can find plenty of ammo to bash the contestants with while staying within the facts.

          • I am paying attention, KenO — to your refusal to acknowledge the facts. You, of course, know nothing about food that was captured but not shared off-camera, but it is astounding that you would deny what every viewer of the show saw with their own eyes, in the choice not to share a sting ray.

When it comes to believing you or my lying eyes, sorry, your inability to acknowledge the facts has cost you all of your credibility.

          • Further she states “In your perception that’s exactly what was happening, we were trying to make the best of a struggling situation and you didn’t want to join us.” Wow, just wow. She put’s it all on Shane, what a condescending bitch.

          • Actually, in essence, you are correct. However they finally caught the smallest stingray I’ve ever seen, they caught it on the night before they left. If it had been another 8′ Eel he would have proudly entered the camp and given half of it to them. Half of a baby stingray each is hardly enough meat for the two of them, no wonder he finally said he wasn’t going to share….awfully late in the game. But you are right he finally didn’t share….

  17. I felt bad for Shane its obvious the show put one member in every group that would not fit in with the others. Those girls were straight up mean. This is a competition not Jr. High school. once the groups combined the only thing those girls did was bitch about other people they didn’t like and sit on their ass and bitch about how they wanted another eel. I really can’t wait to watch the end show where they all get together and watch their behaviors and have to be accountable. I wonder if Luke and the other guy even knew they just didn’t share with the other team. How could everyone not know what that was about. But it was the funniest thing to watch Eva move that fast up off her but to the other camp for food! Lol and Alana is one of those girls who isn’t happy unless she is picking on someone and telling everyone else shouldn’t like them too she was mercy less on Shane even when he left it was all because in the first few days he would not quit working and just do what she told him and sit around and do nothing like she did and just wait for someone to feed her did she or any one except the vegetarian girl hunt and provide any food for her team at all? No she didn’t. They should also break down the group scores by who was MVP for the team and who wasn’t I want to see these people do this alone for 30 days. Shane got a horrible team that wrecked him the girls caused him to go home he was so sweet he just needed someone to be kind and human and to be his friend I am really thankful for that and I hope those guys become life long brothers this show accomplished something special you don’t see much of on TV anymore, friends. Danni if the girls had not been so childish and mean you also would most likely have been accepted on the guys team and you would not have to have been so bullied. Know this, you are an acceptional human being and are a better person and a role model for young girls on up to adults by showing how you can deal with bullies in an adult manner and for that you are a role model. I am so sorry to see grown ass girls acting this way.

    • Beautifully written, Marissa.
      Agree on every point.

I just realized there IS 1 good thing that probably has come from the 2 ‘devil sisters’ (Alana & ‘Shrimp Devil Jr’) cruel actions on him,..& that is that I’m sure now, Shane has all the new friends, male & female, that he could EVER want,……plus, a ton of support in a variety of ways.

Just hope he can see thru it, so no one hooks onto him/takes advantage of him, just cause he’s famous.

      Like Shane said,..”It’s a Gift from God’,…:)

        • Thank you, KenO.

Did you (or anyone else) notice,..that the women were screaming bloody murder, about being eaten by Piranha’s, as they crossed to rescue,….but then,…no mention of it, no blood, & no tending of ANY wounds?

          • Yes, I noticed that, on the 120 metre (NOT 500 yard )DRAMATIC SWIM full of stock video of caiman, piranha and anaconda. What a joke! Probably told by Director…….to be dramatic.

    • It does appear that the two alpha teams (all-men, all-women) were intended to dominate the environment, while the mixed teams were composed with an eye toward drama. Put Shane, who you know will work very hard, with a personality who emphasizes survival through minimal activity; put Honora, a very dramatic personality who has not survived a challenge, with Chris — who is all-but-certain to find her annoying — and Luke the counselor/peacemaker.

      • Luke proved that he was far from a counselor/peacemaker and Chrissy never gave Honora a chance. They were against her as soon as they laid eyes on her.

  18. I would like to see a little more maturity brought in.
Jeff & EJ were great. Fun to watch & it was all about the challenge. I missed Shane as soon as he left & Dani did not get a fair shake from the mean girls. Chris was out of line & Luke was disappointing. The fire thing could have been solved & Dani taking a walk is not a crime. I would do the same thing rather than lay in the dirt all day (hoping for an eel handout.
Luv to see Bo Stewart back & Charlie. Also put some clothes on them, very tired of the blur cam.

    • Agree..i believe that group would eat their weak or different . Alana the red head was the instigator…has a mindset of a communist. The “survival is lazy” idiot tormented Shane then attacked Dani. I wish Shane and Dani had stayed. Alana should have been ousted..not a team player .she poisoned the minds of the other selfish weasels in the group. The 2 Alpha males EJ and Jeff were the greatest. They showed true Christianity in sharing and respect although they should have accepted Dani when she reached out to them

      • Judy, my wife and I thought E.J. was great when he was on N&A with Laura. However this time he was a huge disappointment. Did you see him catch anything besides a small barrel cactus? Did you notice he completely gave up his leadership position to Jeff? Did you notice how, the farther he went into the challenge the less he spoke, the more he looked at the ground and sort of shuffled along without purpose? Jeff, please his ‘sharing’ was all about him. It was “See, look how great I am, I bring you food”. Nothing else, no spiritual basis, just Jeff. Neither of them did the right thing by Dani and they screwed Hakim right out of the gate by not going for water first in that environment and then building a shelter. It was way to hot to work for 8-10 hours without hydrating. Rookie move. No there wasn’t a single redeeming factor in any of them. They mistreated the weakest ones in their group, made bad survival decisions and didn’t step up to the plate when they saw someone being bullied. Not impressed. Going in E.J. was my man, but half way through I started thinking of him differently and thought back to how bad their initial decision was not to go for water before building.

        • Hakim is a grown-up, and I don’t think its reasonable to either infantilize him or to suggest that he was weaker than his teammates. The big mistake of the alpha males — all three of them — was to build a massive shelter before they found water, exerting a lot of energy constructing a shelter that they ultimately had to abandon. Hakim made the same choices as his teammates, but suffered greater physical consequences.

          • He never stood up for himself nor was aggressive about going for water. They dismissed him out of hand. Never said he was weak but obviously he was.

          • Are you stuck in a loop? Show how Hakim, the Ninja, stood up for himself or his point of view. Show how E.J. displayed any kind of leadership skills or hunting abilities.

          • No loop. I simply don’t seem much point in going through the same thing with you, over and over again, when you refuse to acknowledge facts that have already been documented to you because they conflict with your opinions.

At first it seemed you were simply careless. After you created this pattern, and have refused to acknowledge facts documented to you in past discussions, I no longer think that you actually care what the facts are. What’s your agenda?

          • I agree that not prioritizing water was a mistake, but how could they could they have expected to be dropped in a location where the nearest source of water was protected by a massive wall of black palm that took hours to cut through.

          • > …but how could they could they have expected to be dropped in a location where the nearest source of water was protected by a massive wall of black palm that took hours to cut through…

That may not have been the nearest water source to where they were dropped, as opposed to where they set up camp, and it also may be that had they approached the water source from a different direction they would have avoided the black palm. But “how could they expect…” — the premise of the show is artificially created adversity, so it would actually be reasonable to expect that there would be scarce resources near the drop-off location.

    • Yep, Judi,…the “Naked’ thing was a gimmick, to get all to watch,..but it’s unnecessary & I tired if it fairly fast.

Wouldn’t mind if they had at least boots/some clothing for the cold, esp.
I think the challenge w still be good.

Haven’t seen even 1 person thru out these challenges sneeze/catch a cold from the cold.

I would, overnight, in those conditions

      • I’m pretty done with the “naked” part as well. I agree it was just a ‘hook’ to get people to watch. If they’re going to do that don’t give them anything, like the guy in “Marooned”. He got, no clothes, no tools, nothing and he made it for 30 days. He’s my idea of a survivalist.
