Colin Farrell Plays Old-Fashioned Detective in Postmodern World in New Apple Series ‘Sugar’

Sugar Apple TV+ Jason LaVeris/Apple TV+

Inspired by the golden era of film noir, this stylish contemporary drama stars Colin Farrell as private detective John Sugar, who has a secret so unexpected the revelation will make you spit out your bourbon. (Which he drinks a lot of on the show, despite a uniquely high tolerance.)

It’s an odd show to be sure, and only gets more odd once you discover more about Sugar’s identity. But if you’re looking for something truly unpredictable, this is the show for you. Colin Farrell delivers an excellent performance, and his character’s obsession with old detective films and his drive to find a missing girl at any cost makes the series very compelling.

Sugar is available Fridays beginning April 5 on Apple TV+.
