NFL Network’s The Timeline debuts with “Favre Returns”

NFL Network presents new documentary series The Timeline, chronicling important moments and milestones in NFL history. The first episode, “Favre Returns,” begins after the Packers at Lions  Thursday Night Football  game Dec. 3 and takes a behind-the-scenes look at Brett Favre’s induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in July.

Tuesday, Dec. 8
“Jersey Guys”
NFL Network, 8pm ET
NFL Network’s documentary series on pivotal moments in league history continues with this look at the long and difficult process that the New York Football Giants underwent in moving to Giants Stadium at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J., in 1976. The pains would pay off as the Giants had a resurgence and won their first Super Bowl in 1987.

Tuesday, Dec. 15
The Timeline: “A Tale of Two Cities, Part 1”
NFL Network, 8pm ET
This two-part episode of NFL Network’s documentary series The Timeline examines the bitter rivalry between the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers, who hold five Super Bowl titles each.

Saturday, Dec. 19
The Timeline: “A Tale of Two Cities, Part 2”
NFL Network, following Jets vs. Cowboys game
Following the N.Y Jets vs. Dallas Cowboys game, the second part of The Timeline’s “A Tale of Two Cities” episode continues the story of the Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers rivalry, and how it developed into the biggest of the Super Bowl era.

Thursday, Dec. 24
“The Merger”
NFL Network, following Thursday Night Football
Immediately following Thursday Night Football, this episode of NFL Network’s The Timeline documentary series looks at the historic merger of the National Football League with the upstart American Football League before the 1970 season, and the impact it had on developing the NFL as America’s most popular sports league.

Saturday, Dec. 26
“America’s Game and the Iran Hostage Crisis”
NFL Network, following Redskins vs. Eagles game
George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures (Argo) produced this episode of NFL Network’s The Timeline, which premieres following the Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles game. “America’s Game and the Iran Hostage Crisis” looks at how an audiocassette recording of Super Bowl XIV was smuggled into the American embassy in Iran, where 52 U.S. diplomats and citizens were held hostage for 444 days. The hostages’ release in January 1981 was celebrated at Super Bowl XV in New Orleans.
