2014 Oscar nominees Amy Adams (for American Hustle) and Matthew McConaughey (for Dallas Buyers Club) will take to the Inside the Actors Studio stage on back-to-back episodes, with Adams appearing Wednesday, Feb. 19, and McConaughey on Feb. 20.
Adams talks with host James Lipton about growing up with six siblings, working as a dancer in the 1990s, and her relationship with longtime fiancé Darren Le Gallo. The five-time Oscar nominee will also reveal how she landed her Golden Globe winning role of Sydney Prosser — whom she calls “the most miserable human being” that she has ever played — in American Hustle, and her other Academy Award nominated roles, including Ashley in Junebug, Charlotte in The Fighter and Sister James in Doubt.
Highlights from Amy Adams’ episode:
• “You want me to play this girl throwing punches?” — Adams on her reaction when asked to play Charlene Fleming in The Fighter
• “Sydney had to go, when I was done [with her]. She had to go.” — Adams on her portrayal of Sydney Prosser in American Hustle
• “I don’t tell the director everything that my character is doing or thinking. I have to have my secrets, because in life we never really know the person we’re talking to. — Adams on how she creates her characters and works with her directors
The following night, Matthew McConaughey sits down with Lipton to discuss his unorthodox acting debut in Dazed & Confused, and the film that made him a household name in a single weekend.
McConaughey also reveals his rigorous research for the role of AIDS activist Ron Woodruff in Dallas Buyers Club, for which he has already won Golden Globe, Critics Choice and Screen Actors Guild awards.
