“Transporter” film franchise to become Cinemax series

By Jeff Pfeiffer

Cinemax announced today that filming has begun in Toronto on a new action series for the network called Transporter, based on the hit film franchise of the same name. Chris Vance (Burn Notice, Prison Break) will be starring in the title role of professional transporter Frank Martin, who operates in a seedy underworld of criminals and desperate players. Andrea Osvart (Duplicity) costars as Martin’s trusted handler Carla, and Francois Berléand reprises his role of Inspector Tarconi from the films. Rounding out the cast are Delphine Chanéac in a recurring role as Juliette, a reporter who seems to know a lot about Frank’s work; and Rachel Skarsten (Birds of Prey) as Delia, the daughter of someone from Frank’s past.

Among the executive producers on the series is Luc Besson, who co-created the Transporter films. Transporter marks Cinemax’s latest foray into the original series market. The network’s first scripted primetime drama series, the action-packed Strike Back, premieres this Friday.

Transporter is expected to shoot through this November, and premiere on Cinemax in 2012.
