I’ve been around a lot of candy. Next comes a film made during a later phase when Godzilla was more of a heroic/defender presence: Destroy All Monsters (1968). The movie has a terrific climax in which Godzilla and a number of Toho Studios’ other famous monsters — Rodan and Mothra among them — give a beatdown to King Ghidorah on Mount Fuji as they defend Earth from aliens. The lineup concludes with the last two entries in the initial era of Godzilla films, both of which find him up against one of his more formidable adversaries: the titular robotic threat of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974) and Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975).
