The Elisabeth Moss-led adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s novel finishes up its fifth season with this episode. The drama has been renewed for a sixth and final season. Season 5 of this drama about the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II is the first season to be released following the real queen’s passing in September. Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce and Lesley Manville step into the respective roles of Elizabeth, Prince Philip and Princess Margaret, which they’ll continue in the sixth and final season. These two seasons cover the queen’s reign in the late 20th/21st centuries. Other new cast members include Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Dominic West as Prince Charles and Jonny Lee Miller as Prime Minister John Major.

TCM’s monthlong Wednesday night look at movies about real and fictional royals continues this evening with the second of two lineups featuring films about British monarchs. It starts with Young Bess (1953), a biopic about the early life of the future Queen Elizabeth I, from her childhood to just prior to her ascension to the throne, with Jean Simmons in the title role and Charles Laughton as King Henry VIII. Elizabeth I also features in the next film, The Virgin Queen (1955), which focuses on the relationship between the monarch (Bette Davis) and Sir Walter Raleigh (Richard Todd). Following that is a drama that jumps ahead a few hundred years in British history: Mrs. Brown (1997), which looks at the uproar that ensued from the relationship between the recently widowed Queen Victoria (Best Actress Oscar nominee Judi Dench) and John Brown (Billy Connolly), her Scottish personal attendant. The final two films go way back, to the early myths of King Arthur: the musical fantasy/drama Camelot (1967), with Richard Harris as Arthur and Vanessa Redgrave as Guinevere; and Knights of the Round Table (1953), led by Mel Ferrer and Ava Gardner as those respective characters.

Turner Classic Movies continues its monthlong Thursday night salute to famed British actor James Mason with this evening’s eight-film lineup of highlights from the star’s 1950s and ’60s films. Two of them feature Mason in what are among his most recognized performances: Georgy Girl, the 1966 British romantic comedy/drama that netted him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor and a Best Actress nod for Lynn Redgrave as the title character; and Lolita (1962), with Mason as Professor Humbert Humbert alongside Sue Lyon as the title character and Shelley Winters as her mother in Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel. Both these films air in late night/early tomorrow morning, and are bookended by Mason films that are perhaps not as known. Starting the evening and leading into Georgy Girl are the dramas Bigger Than Life (1956) and The Pumpkin Eater (1964). Following Lolita are the suspense films Cry Terror! (1958) and The Decks Ran Red (1958); the romantic comedy/fantasy Forever, Darling (1956); and the romantic drama anthology The Story of Three Loves (1953).

Thanksgiving is a time for families to put aside their differences — even the Wrights. Since the freshman dramedy’s September premiere, we’ve known perfectionist law partner Margaret Wright (Marcia Gay Harden) has three children: black sheep Todd (Skylar Astin), who now works as an investigator at her Portland, Oregon, firm (this week’s case involves a teller injured during a bank robbery); people-pleasing middle child Allison (Madeline Wise), an ER doctor whose garage Todd currently lives in; and Lawrence, who has missed every one of the family dinners that Todd has only recently been reinstated to, presumably because of a demanding job as chief of staff to the state’s governor. But this week, we finally meet the absentee sibling. As the episode opens, Margaret is upset she won’t be spending the holiday — the first since her husband left her — surrounded by all of her family. Allison plans to be with her husband and his relatives, Lawrence is tied up (again), and Todd, well, one out of three is just not enough. So Todd makes it his mission to bring Lawrence (Matthew Wilkas) home from the governor’s annual work retreat.

The intrigue Jones gets caught up in becomes the most dangerous story of his career, as the assassination of a Dutch diplomat leads him into a nest of Nazi spies on the eve of World War II. Laraine Day, Herbert Marshall, George Sanders and Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee Albert Bassermann also star.
