RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5, episode 6 recap

After last week’s RuPaul’s Drag Race season 5 Snatch Game episode, I’m fully expecting this week’s episode to be a little bit of a let down. Jinkx Monsoon can’t carry the entire season. Some of the other drag queens are going to have to start getting entertaining & not just bitching at each other.

This week’s mini-challenge involves putting their face on in the dark. Meh. They were all upset & no one really looked all that bad. Or perhaps they all looked bad, but they were all the same level of bad. Alaska at least makes it interesting by being bad on purpose. Roxxxy ran into a table. Ru checked out the Pit Crew’s crotches. A bit of a snooze all around. Detox wins the mini-challenge, putting her in charge of the mainstage challenge.

The Queens have to write & record an inspirational record, “Can I Get An Amen?” Detox assembles the teams, so of course RoLaskaToxx is a team. Then Jade, Ivy and Jinkx are a team. And finally, Coco and Alyssa are a team. Oh yes. Coco mentions that all the girls know Coco & Alyssa hate each other, so why would they put them together? Because it’s a competition, hunty.

Alyssa & Coco are assigned verse 1, Rolaskatoxx does the bridge and Jade, Ivy and Jinkx are verse 2. Everyone gets apparently negative critique from Ru as they’re writing their section of the song lyrics. Some contestants are worried about it, while others think they have this challenge in the bag. Who doesn’t know if you thinks you have the challenge in the bag, that usually means you’re going to fall on your face?

When in the recording studio, Coco and Alyssa are tense – Coco most of all. She is just bitchy from the beginning, even calling out Detox for putting her first in the song. Their cute mentor-boy Lucian Piane also notices the tension. Not good, Coco. Keep that to yourself; it’s been old for a couple of weeks now. RoLaskaToxx, or Ro and Toxx decide the recording studio is the place to goof off. Alaska is not happy about it.

Back in the workroom, Detox tells Alaska about all of the plastic surgery she’s had done. The only places she hasn’t had done is essentially her knees, nose & big toe. She’s even had her biceps & 6-pack made out of silicone. Detox needs to donate her body upon her demise to Body Worlds. Number one – it’s less work for the people who preserve the bodies. Number two – it would be fascinating to see where all that silicone goes over time.

The mainstage look is to feature one body part. We go from demure: Alaska features her collarbone to Detox featuring her ass. We then learn the single Can I Get An Amen? is available on iTunes and a portion of the proceeds go to charity.

Ivy Winters wins this week’s challenge. Up for elimination is Jade Jolie and Coco Montrese. Coco Montrese continues on while Jade Jolie is sent to sashay away.

I don’t know about you, but I was really meh about this episode. Can we just start featuring some charisma, uniqueness, nerve & talent instead of bitching? It’s not even entertaining drama, it’s just a lot of bitching.
