TV Land reboots Candid Camera for a new generation

Can TV Land improve on a classic? We’ll find out as a longtime staple of TV and the original reality show, Candid Camera, gets rebooted for the 21st century on TV Land. Candid Camera created the hidden camera concept for TV in 1948 and produced the “Smile! You’re on candid camera!” catchphrase. Versions of the show aired for more than 50 years and inspired countless other similar hidden camera prank shows (like MTV’s Punk’d). TV Land’s new iteration is hosted by Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory) and Peter Funt, son of original Candid Camera creator and host Allen Funt. […]

“7 Questions” With David Alan Basche of TV Land’s “The Exes”

As the fastidious Stuart on TV Land’s hit sitcom The Exes, David Alan Basche gets to tap into his inner neat freak and serve as a nice counterpoint to his roommates, the energetic lothario Phil (Donald Faison) and formidable layabout Haskell (Wayne Knight). Having just started its third season, the comedy about three divorced men thrown together in an apartment owned by their divorce lawyer, Holly (Kristen Johnston), who happens to live across the hall, The Exes has proven to be a worthy addition to its stars lengthy resumes. This week’s holiday episode — airing at 10:30pm Wednesday on TV […]

Kirstie Alley is back in all her sitcom glory in TV Land’s “Kirstie”

When we’ve seen Kirstie Alley on TV in the past decade or so, it’s largely been as herself, or some exaggerated version thereof. Whether she’s poking fun at her weight issues in Fat Actress and Kirstie Alley’s Big Life, showing off her moves on Dancing With the Stars or getting caught up in some controversial Scientology-related news story, the focus hasn’t really been on her acting. That’s why the star is reveling in Kirstie, the new TV Land sitcom that signals a triumphant return to form, and shows she still knows her way around a joke. “It does feel like […]

7 Questions With Georgia Engel of TV Land’s “Hot in Cleveland”

Georgia Engel may always be best remembered for her turn as Georgette Franklin on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, but the vivacious, sweet-natured actress has had a long and varied career. Yes, there’s been television — a medium she has kept up with over the years with memorable stints on Coach, Everybody Loves Raymond and Two and a Half Men — but she’s also a fixture onstage, lending her singing and dancing talents to productions like The Drowsy Chaperone. And in films, she recently turned up in the summer hit Grown Ups 2, showing a new generation of comic actors […]

“Hot in Cleveland” features epic “Mary Tyler Moore Show” reunion

Reunions and special guest stars are nothing new to the set of Hot in Cleveland. The TV Land sitcom is known for celebrating stars of the past and letting them do what they do best in front of an audience rabid to see them in action again. Yet there was something above and beyond this spring when five women from the landmark The Mary Tyler Moore Show got together to share the screen for the first time since 1977. Mary Tyler Moore, Valerie Harper and Cloris Leachman joined Hot in Cleveland regular Betty White and recurring guest star Georgia Engel […]

7 Questions With … Wayne Knight of TV Land’s “The Exes”

Newman, Dennis Nedry, the chicken-suit guy from Toy Story 2, the sweaty cop who saw up Sharon Stone’s skirt in Basic Instinct … Wayne Knight has brought them all to life, carving out a particular niche for himself with characters that are off-putting at best to those onscreen and irresistible to viewers. His latest gig is playing Haskell Lutz on TV Land’s sitcom The Exes, about three divorced men who become roommates as they try to rebuild their lives. The gig reunites him with his 3rd Rock From the Sun costar Kristen Johnston, who plays the trio’s divorce lawyer who […]
