Project Runway Season 11 gets supersized

According to a press release from Lifetime, the final 3 episodes of Project Runway will be ‘supersized.’  So instead of 1.5 hours of the show every Thursday, fans will be treated to 2 hours of the show. But before we get ahead of ourselves, we need to go from the top 5 down to the top 4 in tonight’s episode. This could be a good thing with more drama, more seeing how designers work & create. Or, it could be bad with more mentions of ‘HP Touchscreen’ and ‘Lexus’ and even more ‘technology suite, brought to you by the folks […]

Project Runway Season 11 contestants start the show tonight

Project Runway Season 11 debuts tonight and the twists are coming early. First off, no Michael Kors. Sad trombone. Secondly, the contestants are competing in teams for the whole season. I’m interested in seeing how Project Runway pulls this off. As I’ve said before, if they are trying to make this a realistic challenge, then the teams should change weekly like they do in the real world. I’m also willing to give new judge Zac Posen a chance. Some of the clips show some snarky promise in Mr. Posen. I’m hopeful that these are just highlights and once I tune […]

Project Runway wraps up All Stars and gets ready for the Teams season 11

Tonight wraps up the second season of Project Runway All Stars. Three designers are left: Uli Herzner, Anthony Ryan Auld and Emilio Sosa. As always, the judges’ feedback has been pretty even among the three so it’s hard to say who has the advantage. If you look at challenges won, however, Anthony Ryan is the clear favorite to win with 5 challenges under his belt. Emilio & Uli each only have 2 wins in comparison. But wins, shmins. It’s all up in the air tonight during the Project Runway All Stars finale. And just to keep Project Runway fresh in […]

Project Runway turns 10 with an all-new cast of designers

Oh, Tim Gunn, how we’ve missed you. After Project Runway’s limp spinoff, Project Runway: All Stars, fell far short of expectations, seeing Michael Kors ruddy, orange face again is a welcome treat. Luckily, the whole Project Runway gang is back for Season Ten, premiering tonight at 9pm ET/PT on Lifetime. Gunn will mentor sixteen all-new designers as they try to impress those oh-so-tough-to-please judges Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Michael Kors. The winning designer will receive $100,000 from L’Oréal Paris to start his/her own line, a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a new Lexus and a whole bunch of […]

Lifetime shakes things up for “Project Runway All Stars”

For those who complain that their favorite shows run out of steam due to over-exposure, Lifetime might have come up with a suitable solution by bringing back some designers from previous seasons of Project Runway but with a new host, mentor and judges. Fans who tune in to Project Runway All Stars tonight at 9pm ET will see some of the favorite and least favorite contestants from the past several years, but what they won’t see is host Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn or judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. Stepping in for this series will be model Angela Lindvall […]

“Project Runway All Stars” Says ‘Auf’ With The Old, In With The Old?

Fans are in for a real shakeup when the new Project Runway All Stars premieres on Lifetime, Jan. 5. No Heidi Klum. No Michael Kors. No Nina Garcia. And — gasp — no Tim Gunn. Instead, the Project Runway spinoff will feature model Angela Lindvall as host, Marie Claire’s editor in chief Joanna Coles as mentor, and designers Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman as judges. Not to worry, though. There will still be plenty of familiar faces. The returning “All Stars” are some of the most beloved designers — Mondo Guerra, Austin Scarlett, Sweet P — from seasons past, and […]

A man’s guide to watching “Project Runway”

By Tom Comi Follow @ChannelGuide A big part of being married is making concessions, and I have to admit that the biggest one I make is watching Project Runway with my wife. Don’t get me wrong, the Lifetime reality show that premieres tonight (9pm ET) can be quite entertaining. I just have no clue what they are talking about more often than not. I don’t sew, I would never buy the style of clothes they make (on the rare occasion that something is designed for a man) and I don’t understand the lingo at all (I thought Avant Garde was […]

Project Runway: Lights, Camera, Sew! Recap

by Ruth Anne Boulet One of the more consistent elements of Project Runway is the idea that creating a costume is a kiss of death. Project Runway is not about costumes — it’s about couture. Costumes are what children wear on Halloween or budding community theatre girls wear to prom. Costumes have no place on the runway. So, by all means, let’s base an entire episodes challenge around making a costume. Or using the idea of a costume to influence a high-fashion piece. That distinction is never made clear in this latest episode of Project Runway, and it’s a darn […]

“Project Runway”: Fashion Headliners recap

by Ruth Anne Boulet Project Runway continues down the slide of mediocrity. I don’t think I’m spoiling anything by saying AGAIN no Nina Garcia or Michael Kors. The only excitement in this episode happened on the judging runway when Heidi almost clapped upon hearing 2 designers squabble with each other. I can understand our beloved judges having something else going on & having to miss a week. Maybe two. But when Project Runway switched networks, Lifetime reassured us that the show would remain the same. The judges would be the same; the only change would be moving the location to […]

“Project Runway”: What a woman wants recap

by Ruth Anne Boulet Project Runway, why are you doing this to us? Why did you assure us, cajole us, soothe us, into thinking that this season on Lifetime and in LA would be JUST LIKE previous seasons on Bravo in NY? And why, oh why did I believe you? Because I wanted to, Project Runway. Because I wanted to.
