2012 NHL Winter Classic Jan. 2 on NBC

The NHL will play its fifth outdoor NHL Winter Classic game (usually slated for New Year’s Day) on Monday, Jan. 2, at 1pm ET, at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park. The Philadelphia Flyers host the New York Rangers in a clash of Eastern Conference Atlantic Division rivals. This is the first Winter Classic appearance for the Rangers, and the second for the Flyers, who lost to the Boston Bruins at Fenway Park in 2010. NBC Sports Network launches in time for 2012 NHL Winter Classic

On Jan. 2, the cable sports network known as Versus will be rebranded as NBC Sports Network, just in time to coincide with NBC’s coverage of the 2012 NHL Winter Classic outdoor hockey game between the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The puck drops on the 2011 NHL season on Thursday, Oct. 6, beginning at 7pm ET with a doubleheader on Versus. First up, the Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins welcome the Eastern Conference rival Philadelphia Flyers.
