Ben Barnes: Sons of Liberty a “rough-and-tumble” version of early American history

The name Sam Adams may be familiar to most Americans nowadays as the name of a beer, but he was, of course, in real life one of the patriots instrumental in leading the American Revolution. He is one of the main characters followed in Sons of Liberty, the new scripted miniseries on History about the years leading up to that monumental event. The three-night, six-hour Sons of Liberty (named after the moniker the group of young freedom fighters gave themselves) chronicles the years 1765-1775. Favorite “Vikings” son: Alexander Ludwig talks about joining the History drama in Season 2

Alexander Ludwig is a young, strong, imposing-looking guy. Look no further than his role as Cato in the first Hunger Games movie for proof. But even Ludwig was nervous stepping into the big, bad world that is Vikings. The 21-year-old Vancouver native nabbed the plum role of Bjorn, the tempestuous teenage son of the mighty Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), as the History drama kicks off its second season Feb. 27. While Ludwig says he was excited to take on the project, he was nervous because not only was it his first TV series, but he was also jumping in after […]

Bonnie and Clyde: A&E Networks’ miniseries event shows darker vision of outlaw couple

Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, known much better without their surnames, have become unlikely folk heroes thanks largely to the 1967 Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway film that featured the tagline “They’re young. They’re in love. They kill people.” In that version, and subsequently in the public’s imagination, Bonnie and Clyde pulled off their violent crimes with the zeal of youth, and faced their notorious bullet-riddled deaths with smiles on their faces, the very embodiment of the philosophy of live fast, die young and leave a good-looking corpse. It’s a tall order to think any retelling could overshadow what seems […]

Chasing Tail on History, recaps for “Deer Camp,” “No Smoking”

You can see how people wonder if Chasing Tail on History is for real, as the idea of an open hunting season taking place in some of the wealthiest residential neighborhoods in Connecticut certainly seems farfetched. But, Chasing Tail (Thursdays at 10pm ET on History) is indeed real for upscale Connecticut neighborhoods that have been overrun by white-tail deer. The show’s website lists that in Connecticut alone there are an estimated 18,000 deer killed in vehicle collisions along roadways each year. That averages out to 49 crashes per day caused by deer, which result in some $28 million in damage. […]
