Hell on Wheels Series finale recap: Done

Well, Hellions – it’s been a long and bumpy ride, but we’ve arrived at our final destination. After five seasons of great TV, we have come to the end of Hell on Wheels.  The good-bye is bittersweet, for me. I will miss my Bohannon, but I am left with hope for the characters I’ve come to love, and I’m pleased nothing is tied up in a neat little bow. Fine work, AMC. Durant and Huntington face each other on the tracks, taking jabs under their breaths as the crowd around them waits in silence. Durant provides the spike. They both […]

Hell on Wheels Season 5 episode 13 recap: Going for gold

Hey there, fellow Hell on Wheels fans. Welcome to the penultimate episode. Are you ready to see the Transcontinental come to fruition? It’s about to happen, and this episode begins with an absolutely beautiful narrative. Louise Ellison is typing up her account for the New York Times, and we hear her words as keys fall on paper. In conjunction, a photographer develops photos of what we’ve witnessed over the past five seasons. We are reminded of many trials and tribulations. It’s a glorious intro. Maybe it’s because I love to write. Maybe it’s because I love history. Maybe it’s because my […]

Hell on Wheels Season 5 Episode 12 recap: “Freedom starts with a single step”

Welcome back, Hellions! We’re in the home stretch and I’m thoroughly enjoying the ride. The last half of the season has been a sensory overload – I’m expecting the Hell on Wheels series finale to be phenomenal. I know we aren’t quite there yet, but the lead up has me convinced we will enjoy an exceptional ending to the series we’ve come to love. I know we won’t get “Dextered.” To those of you who don’t know what I mean by that, just think of a show you’ve watched religiously only to see it sign off for good with a […]

Hell On Wheels Season 5 Episode 11 recap: No-hannon

Welcome back, Hell on Wheels fans. Mr. B is not around this week, but Durant’s scheme and its costs require an entire episode. I’m happy it’s mostly over and done, though I’m certain of residuals. It was a nightmare from its inception, and the price paid for his egotistical stupidity far surpasses the $250,000 he so arrogantly expected. As I’ve said, I don’t hate the man. I’ve felt a lot more disdain over the past few episodes, but I still don’t hate him. If anything, I pity him. He’s weak. Money and power will always make the weak strong, but […]

Hell on Wheels Season 5 Episode 10 recap: Break on Through to the Other Side

Welcome back faithful Hell on Wheels fans! Last week, Bohannon returned to Truckee after a “final farewell” to Naomi and William. Durant had to suck it up and give Mickey shares in the Union Pacific. And then Mei ‘welcomed’ Cullen back in an unexpected way. Initially, it was hard to swallow, but once digested, it felt okay in my gut. A great discussion following my recap really helped, so thank you, readers! HOWEVER, this week’s episode makes me queasy. With that said, let’s get to it! On … whee! Cullen stares a hole in the ceiling as Mei sleeps beside […]

Hell on Wheels Season 5 Episode 9 Recap: Return to the Garden

Welcome back, HOW fans! Last week’s episode took a more personal turn than those that came before in Season 5. Perhaps, the showrunners want to end Hell on Wheels by taking us back to what it’s really all about. It’s not so much the importance of a transcontinental railroad that has pulled us into this series … it’s the people … the characters we have come to love and hate, or both. I especially love the opening scene. Cullen cools himself down by a stream. On the other side, an Indian does the same. Their eyes meet, and while Bohannon […]
