Worry not, fans of departed American Idol Judge Kara DioGuardi — or folks fearing the longtime FOX ratings juggernaut may be jumping the shark with an upcoming season full of kooky shakeups. Bravo has greenlit Going Platinum (currently the show’s working title), a new music competition series showcasing emerging singer-songwriters on their quest to become the next big hitmaker. Country-pop poet Jewel is set to host the series and lend her experience via feedback to DioGuardi, who serves as head judge each week (Take THAT Simon!). According to the network: Going Platinum will follow 12 musicians as they battle through a series […]

A classier “Housewives” for Bravo?

By Emily Mitchell “D.C. has a certain expectation of how you behave and treat people and argue. I think you are going to see a more refined edge to these women. It’s probably going to be a little classier,” says Mary Schmidt Amons, one of the stars of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of D.C. In other words, the nation’s capital will be no place for wig-pulling and girl fights. With a dynamic cast, the network’s fifth Housewives series — which joins Orange County, New York, Atlanta and New Jersey — promises to add another facet of drama in its portrayal […]

“Family Guy” cast appears on new “Actors Studio”

By Jeff Pfeiffer A few years ago, Bravo’s Inside the Actors Studio brought on the voice cast of The Simpsons for a very memorable interview, with each cast member alternating between his or her real identity and animated alter-ego. Things should be similarly entertaining in a new Actors Studio this Monday, September 14, when Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Mike Henry and Seth Green (pictured left to right) talk to host James Lipton as both themselves and their respective Family Guy characters. Sorry, Meg fans (if there are any) — Mila Kunis will not be there. But we can expect to […]

A few minutes with Kathy Griffin

By Jeff Pfeiffer Oh, to be as deliciously open and uncensored as Kathy Griffin, star of Bravo’s My Life on the D-List (which airs its season finale this Monday). At an outdoor shindig thrown by NBC/Universal during the Television Critics Association (TCA) tour, Griffin gabbed with a small scrum of reporters and let her thoughts fly on various topics of the day, never missing a wry, often tongue-in-cheek beat even as she managed to throw in ironically glamorous poses for passing photographers during the conversation: On Paula Abdul Leaving American Idol Griffin: This is a very tough time for me […]

“Real Housewives Of New Jersey” Keeps It In The Family — Mostly — Beginning Tonight On Bravo

I’ll admit it. I enjoyed a deliriously happy 2-season relationship with Bravo’s Real Housewives of Orange County — until my fellow thirty- and fortysomething ladies bid their goofy little twentysomething pal, Jo, adieu and summarily had their turf invaded by a parade of giggly bleach-blonde trophy wives and earthy, defeated-looking brunettes who seemed to render Gina, Vicki and Lauri as disdainful, annoyed and territorial as I was. We stopped talking about the gall of our overprivleged children and the cluelessness of our never-present husbands over backyard barbecues, and started getting pissy about Botox and nightclubs. I didn’t actually the live […]

Where To Watch The Kentucky Derby

By Ryan For those of you interested (I’m mostly talking to you, degenerate gamblers and C-list celebrities in ugly hats), the Kentucky Derby is this Saturday on NBC. I really can’t tell you anything about this year’s Derby, other than every day this week it seems like some potential favorite has been scratched due to injury. Are there even any horses left in this thing? I Want Revenge as been installed as the 3-1 favorite. I’m taking Papa Clem at 20-1. What the hell. I like his name. He’ll probably have to be put down right on the track. Here’s […]
