Sutton Foster trades Broadway for “Bunheads”

Despite her staggering amount of success on Broadway — including two Tony awards and a decade-long run of starring roles in big shows — more people will likely watch Sutton Foster on one episode of her new TV show than have ever seen her on the Great White Way. The star of such stage hits as Thoroughly Modern Millie and Anything Goes knows she’s stepping into a whole new world with Bunheads, an ABC Family drama — premiering at 9pm June 11 — about an aimless Las Vegas showgirl who impulsively marries a love-struck fan and moves with him to […]

“Hey, Apple!” The Annoying Orange is coming to Cartoon Network

What started out as just another web video for Dane Boedigheimer back in 2009 has built him a mini-empire, which will soon include a half-hour series on Cartoon Network. The Annoying Orange, which debuts at 8:30pm June 11, will showcase the verbose fruit who delights in tormenting his fellow foodstuffs with his intrusive high-pitched greetings like “Hey! Hey, Apple!” It’s all profoundly silly, and Boedigheimer — better known by his online handle Daneboe — knows it. Expanding the quickie shorts into episodes that will consist of two 11-minute segments has been a surprisingly smooth process so far, he says. It […]

“Longmire” takes A&E viewers on a rough ride into the Western

There’s an old sheriff in town, and his name is Walt Longmire. Veteran character actor Robert Taylor — maybe you’d recognize him better wearing the suit and sunglasses he did in The Matrix; then again, maybe not — takes the lead in an absorbing adaptation of Craig Johnson’s acclaimed mystery series. Set on the rugged, unforgiving Wyoming frontier, Longmire follows the middle-aged, recently widowed sheriff of Absaroka County as he seeks to work through his pain and revitalize his life and career. Helping him along are a big-city transplant deputy, Vic (Katee Sackhoff), and his longtime friend Henry Standing Bear […]

TNT’s “Dallas” update is hotter than a Texas summer!

It is late in the afternoon on the final day of the two-week schmooze-a-palooza that is the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour. Half of the assembled critics are nursing a nagging cold that has spread through the frigid, windowless conference rooms; no one has had enough sleep. And everyone — even those of us who would watch way too much TV even if we weren’t paid to do so — has had just about enough of talking about television. Then onto the stage walks Larry Hagman in a dashing white cowboy hat, followed by Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and […]

Adam Richman seeks out America’s best sandwich

Adam Richman’s face is mere inches away from a toaster oven in the bustling kitchen of Kroll’s West, the 70-year-old, go-to food spot for Green Bay Packer fans and “butter burger” lovers that sits in the shadow of the legendary Lambeau Field. But it’s not the burger he’s after on this late April afternoon — it’s the beloved Wisconsin eatery’s prime rib sandwich, a beefy monstrosity accented with a mélange of peppers and onions and a cup of rich au jus. As Cheryl Dorner, the folksy restaurant’s charming manager — and Richman’s costar for this segment of his new Travel […]
