Walls Of Jericho Back Up; Bob Barker Steps On Down

* CBS announced yesterday that its post-apocalyptic drama Jericho will be returning in July. The series received a seven-episode midseason order after impassioned fans rallied around the show (good job, all of you!). July 6 will see a rerun of the series pilot, and on July 13 CBS will present back-to-back broadcasts beginning with “Return to Jericho,” which recapped the first 11 episodes, followed by episode 12, “The Day Before,” which launched Jericho’s spring return. The remaining broadcasts are episodes 13-22, in which tensions continue to escalate between Jericho and the neighboring town of New Bern. The citizens of Jericho […]

A “Mad” World: Life After “The Sopranos” Series Finale

We’ve said our reluctant goodbyes to Tony, Carmela and the Family … so now what? Luckily for fans of The Sopranos, AMC is filling the void with its new drama series Mad Men, which premieres July 19. Following the professional — and sometimes decidedly unprofessional — antics at Sterling Cooper, a 1960s advertising agency, Mad Men brings a stylish and surprisingly cutting-edge new world to your TV. But what, you might be asking, does a 1960s advertising agency have to do with HBO’s wildly popular mob hit? Only the fact that the Mad Men script is what got writer and […]

“The Kill Point” Countdown: Part 4

The July 22 premiere of Spike’s The Kill Point is a little over a month away, and we’ve still got a lot more coverage of the series coming. The July issue of Channel Guide Magazine has a special On The Set section where you can read about the filming of some of the gun battles in the bank and some of my interview with John Leguizamo, and there’ll be more from the set on channelguidemag.com. In The Kill Point Countdown posts, there’re also my interviews with actor Jeremy Davidson, Donnie Wahlberg and director Steve Shill yet to come. My preview […]

Working On My “Night” Moves

Sometimes, my job really doesn’t suck. Like, say, when I fly to L.A. to spend the day on the set of SOAPnet’s new prime-time series General Hospital: Night Shift. Not only was it exciting to walk into my favorite daytime world, but it was a rare treat to get the inside scoop on a show that features a setup that’s new to both the network and the daytime genre as a whole. Taking the action out of a long-arc format and into one of stand-alone episodes, the show, as the name would suggest, focuses its action on the night shift […]

The 4th OT: Into The “Ruff” Stuff

Hopefully you saw the review of the movie Ruffian in the June issue of Channel Guide Magazine. The ESPN Original Entertainment movie premieres Sunday on ABC/ABC HD and stars Sam Shepard and Frank Whaley. It’s based on the true story of Ruffian, considered to be the best thoroughbred filly of all time. It’s a good effort, and while I’m not a fan of the whole horse movie genre (I prefer the monkey genre), Ruffian kept my interest even though I knew it would have a Barbaro-type ending. The 4th OT will be on vacation next week, as I’m cutting a […]

Sickened …

According to LA Sheriff’s department spokesman Steve Whitmore, Paris Hilton was released from jail for medical issues. “After extensive consultation with medical personnel including doctors here at CRDF, it was determined that Paris Hilton would be reassigned to our community-based alternative to custody electronic monitoring program. She has been fitted with an ankle bracelet. And she has been sent home. And she will be confined to her home for the next 40 days. Because she has agreed to this through her attorney, her sentence is now back up to 45 days. She has served already five days, so that’s 40 […]

Oompa-Loompa Love

Have you SEEN this show Sunset Tan on E!? Imagine, if you will, the most outrageous, most exaggerated stereotypes you’ve ever heard about the superficiality and vanity of Los Angeles. Got it? Times that by two, and you’ve just scratched the surface of the staff and customers at the Sunset Tan salon. There’s been quite an uproar surrounding the mom who insisted that her very young (6 years old, if I remember correctly) daughter get the “Lindsay Lohan Special” for her school pictures — and dropped $1,300 to make it happen. While I of course find this woman reprehensible, I […]

You Will Watch And You Will Like It, Dammit!

As you probably know, few cable TV networks are independently owned and operated. Most networks are siblings in a larger corporate family — think of ABC, Disney Channel and all the ESPNs as Mickey Mouse’s minions, and NBC, Bravo, USA Network, SCI FI Channel, MSNBC, CNBC, Telemundo and God knows what else all in the NBC Universal posse. It provides lots of opportunities for “multi-platforming,” “cross promoting,” “synergy” and such and such, but it’s becoming a bigger nuisance, especially when it comes to sports. Here are two of the latest examples of what they’re calling “Roadblocks”: From NBC on Tuesday […]

These “Army Wives” Aren’t “Desperate”

“It’s not that show at all,” says Catherine Bell, rebuffing early criticism that her new Lifetime series, Army Wives, is simply Desperate Housewives set on an Army base. “It’s really just about people, dealing with things that real people deal with, as well as with the added drama of what the Army would deal with.” And with all that affects military families today, this seems the perfect opportunity to explore some of these issues, which the show delves right into in the pilot episode. There’s a lot going on, which is understandable, as the episode is trying to introduce its […]

Return Of The Reality

Hey there, reality people! Did you miss me? After Jaslene posed her way to the title of America’s Next Top Model (told you!), Jordin became the newest American Idol and Andy (smartly) chose to walk off into the sunset with Tessa, I have to admit I got a little reality burned out and needed a little reality break. After all, I thought I’d take a little summertime breather. Silly, silly me. Before I knew it, pirates were invading, I started thinking I could dance, and I found myself taking a little snoozer on the lot. Nice and rested from my […]
