Swingtown: Wishing And Doing

By Elaine B Back in my early employment days, I landed a job at a small business publication. To be fair, the same cuteness factor that kept me from driving a bus landed me this one. It was not in journalism, my field, but in sales, which I truly hate, but any job is better than none. I had a small windowless office and without warning, on about day two of my employment, a heavyset older man wandered in, sat down, closed the door, lit a cigar and said, “Has anyone ever told you that you have a beautiful bosom?” […]

Janice Dickinson Gives Us The Skinny On Season 4 Of Her Oxygen Docu-Series

When the new season of The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency bows Aug. 26 on Oxygen, expect to see our favorite supermodel turned superagent up to her ears in some supersized changes. For one, she’s helming the agency by herself, with a boost from a brand new partner. For two, she’s sold the agency at Hollywood and Highland to take up residence in a surprising spot. But the, uh, biggest adjustment of all, says Dickinson, comes at the hands of her own 21-year-old son, Nathan Fields, who runs the agency’s commercial division. The lad decides it’s time for his old-school mama […]

HBO’s “Hard Knocks” Goes Deep In The Heart Of Dallas Cowboys Training Camp

This summer, America will get an insider’s view of “America’s Team.” Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, never one to shy away from a chance to put himself or his team in the spotlight, is giving NFL Films camera crews total access to Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, Calif., for the fourth installment of the critically acclaimed HBO reality series Hard Knocks. “This is an opportunity for the Cowboys to bring millions of our fans closer to our team and the training camp experience,” Jones says. Hard Knocks: Training Camp With the Dallas Cowboys airs in five one-hour episodes Wednesdays beginning […]

ESPN Saves Geico Cavemen From Extinction

It seems that ESPN’s days of appealing to sports Neanderthals are not over. AdvertisingAge is reporting today that ESPN will be using the Geico cavemen as pitchmen for their online fantasy football and SportsCenter. The insurance-shilling Neanderthals will be spotted frequently across the cable-sports behemoth’s media properties over the next year as part of a novel integration deal between Geico and ESPN that casts the cavemen as fantasy-football salesmen, as well as stars of a series of vignettes promoting the network’s flagship SportsCenter program. The Geico cavemen may be the most overrated, overhyped and underfunny marketing gimmicks ever, and I’m […]

Big Brother 10: 8/14 Show Recap

Posted by johnnysweeptheleg Wow, so how dull was last night’s show? I can’t do a straight up (not a Paula Abdul reference) recap of the show. It would put you to sleep. Only thing I can think of is to recap as though two valley girls from 1983 were talking to each other about the show. So I’ll let Suzy and Jamie give you the recap. S: Ok, so the house was dealing with, like, the aftermath of the Judas comment. J: I dunno. I’m all confused now. Dan looks nothing like the guy from Judas Priest. Why does Jerry […]

An Olympic Perspective

Posted by: haro1d We’re now well into the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and we’re deep into the groove of events. Medals are being won and lost, international goodwill is being fostered and the announcers are as annoying as ever. These Olympics have made their impression in numerous ways — some expected, some not. Take those undeniably awe-inspiring opening ceremonies. We knew that China was going to pull out all of the stops for this particular event, that it was going to be massive in scale and scope, and that we could expect a message from it, as the opportunity would be […]

Welcome To The Jungle On Project Runway

by WindUpDoll Apparently the designers have enough downtime to get in a workout. Has Heidi Klum gone soft this season? No, she still sends the loser model home. And she does it in a sparkly short dress. Didn’t Michael Kors say something about short sparkly dresses? Or maybe it was Nina Garcia. The designers try to guess who the ‘professional woman’ they’ll be designing for. Kelli says Nancy Grace, which puts her annoying breathy voice in my head. I suppose professional designers could create variations on a power suit, but it could get boring pretty fast. Stella wants it to […]

"Highway 18" Quick Nine: Off To The Races

Posted by Ryan 1. “I love you, man!” Thanks to Andy hitting his shot in the target at the horse farm, the two guys get a nice head start on the other teams on their way to Daytona. Parker professes his love for Andy, and their budding bromance will be an intriguing subplot for the rest of the series. 2. The Ashleys’ airbags have deployed. Golf is such a mental game. One bad shot can get in your head and lead to many more bad shots. The Ashleys are in a state of panic during the golf challenges, and they’re […]

Big Brother 10: 8/12 Recap

Posted by johnnysweeptheleg I don’t expect to see any slo-mo video montages of Dan and Jerry skipping hand-in-hand with The Turtles “Happy Together” playing over it. After last night’s episode, we learned that Jerry is absolutely obsessed with Dan. In fact, if the houseguests had rabbits in the house, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see Jerry boiling Dan’s bunny during an upcoming episode. Since Michelle’s nominations, the plan has been to vote Libra out. The only one who could change this, is Jerry. If he wins POV, all bets are off. This week’s POV competition is called […]

"Hurl!" Here: Ring Of Hurl

Posted by Ryan Five contestants will slurp down wonton soup and dim sum and then ride the Megaloop, sort of a roller coaster that just goes in one big endless vertical loop. Let’s meet the five guys who couldn’t cut it as carnies: Benjamin (“Dallas”), a filmmaker; Willis, an actor/producer; Jacobus, an acrobat whose dream job is being a hobo; Ryan, a waiter and aspiring tattoo artist; and Eddie, a dental assistant. I’m pulling for Jacobus. We share the same career aspirations. The guys start soupin’ it up for five minutes. I’m a little surprised that more guys aren’t just […]
