By Ryan Charles has been hard at work, practicing his game, losing weight and improving his flexibility. Charles says he’s practiced on his own 10 or 15 times since he’s last seen Haney. Haney might have been skeptical before, but he sees great progress. “You’re so much better, it’s ridiculous,” Haney says. Today, Charles is going on his first golf course adventure with his new swing. A few minor celebrities show up at the tee box: former NHL star Brett Hull and golfer Tommy Armour III. Charles starts out well, but by the time Hull and Armour show up, he’s […]

NCAA Men’s Tournament First Round Schedule

NCAA Men’s Tournament action officially tips off Tuesday night on ESPN (7:30pm ET) with the play-in game between Alabama State and Morehead State, a formality to determine who will get slaughtered by Louisville and Rick Pitino’s suit on Friday night. But the Big Dance is in full effect on Thursday at 12pm ET on CBS. The first-round games on Thursday and Friday are one of my favorite sports days of the year. Yeah, I’m stuck at the office, but not getting any work done is part of the whole tournament experience. (Just kidding. I’ll get work done … during timeouts.) […]

“The Haney Project: Charles Barkley” Recap: Back To Work

By Ryan Sir Charles is late. It’s 9am, and he’s already behind on his “Tiger Day” of practice. Haney says he’s “wounded,” but Charles says he’s stuck in bad traffic — he had to pick up the wine coolers and bearclaws for Urkel, I guess. But Haney won’t knock Charles’ work ethic. “As far as amateur golfers, I’ve never had a student who’s worked as hard as Charles,” he says. Charles is a little discouraged, though. “I’m not getting better at golf, I’m getting better at the drills.” Tiger Woods must’ve been really bored during his rehab, because he was […]

Ain’t Got That Swing: “The Haney Project” Takes On Charles Barkley

Former NBA star Charles Barkley once famously said, “I am not a role model.” We didn’t know it back then, but he was talking about his golf swing. Maybe you’ve seen any number of videos on the Internet featuring Barkley awkwardly hacking away on the tee box at a celebrity golf tournament. (Google “Charles Barkley Golf Swing” and see for yourself. We’ll wait.) Dreadful, isn’t it? It’s the golf equivalent of Elaine dancing on Seinfeld. Sweet fancy Moses. Shortly after Barkley’s swing caught on like wildfire on the web, GOLF CHANNEL announced that it would undertake a daunting endeavor: The […]
