Where to watch the 2010 US Open tennis tournament

The final Grand Slam event for 2010, the US Open, returns to the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro shocked five-time defending US Open champ Roger Federer at last year’s tournament. The 20-year-old Del Potro, playing in his first Grand Slam final, ended Federer’s 40-match winning streak in New York. Top contenders this year include Federer, Wimbledon champ Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Robin Soderling and Novak Djokovic. Del Potro won’t be defending his title this year due to injury. On the women’s side, Kim Clijsters became the first unseeded woman to win the US […]

Where to watch the 2010 PGA Championship

By Ryan Berenz The year’s final major takes place along the shore of Lake Michigan at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis., site of the PGA Championship in 2004. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els and golf’s best will try to win the Wanamaker trophy and end the season on a high note. Last year’s PGA Championship was a stunner, with unheralded Y.E. Yang of Korea outplaying runner-up Tiger Woods in the final round for a three-stroke victory. It was a rare loss for Woods — he lost for the first time in 15 major […]

“Hard Knocks: Training Camp With the New York Jets” premieres Aug. 11 on HBO

To say that there’s buzz about the New York Jets is an understatement. No, that buzz is more like the deafening roar of a Boeing going throttle-open down the LaGuardia runway. The Jets are coming off a loss to Indianapolis in the AFC Championship, and they’re a popular preseason favorite to win the AFC — if not more — this season. Their confident and colorful head coach, Rex Ryan, has the Jets throwing their weight around the league (though Ryan lost weight himself, thanks to offseason lap-band surgery). Their quarterback, Mark Sanchez, enters his second season and is already an […]

Where to watch the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony

By Ryan Berenz Guard Russ Grimm, linebacker Rickey Jackson, cornerback Dick LeBeau, running back Floyd Little, defensive tackle John Randle, wide receiver Jerry Rice, and running back Emmitt Smith will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, in this ceremony. The seven-man class of 2010 was elected by the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee from a list of 17 finalists. Two of the enshrinees, Smith and Rice, were virtual shoo-ins to enter the Hall in their first year of eligibility. Rice is the NFL’s career receiving and touchdowns leader, having played 20 seasons, […]

NFL preseason kicks off Aug. 8 on NBC

(Click here for the 2011 NFL Preseason TV Schedule) I think I’m about ready to shovel the dirt on my favorite MLB team, but I’m not quite ready for football yet. And I probably won’t be ready until the first week of September. There’s almost nothing in the NFL preseason that gets me fired up for the regular season. Preseason games don’t count for anything, and usually I’m happy to just get through it injury-free. Teams that look like they’re actually trying to win preseason games annoy me. I’m fine with an 18-game regular season so long as they get […]

Where to watch X Games 16

The X Games are back in Los Angeles July 29-Aug. 1 for the 16th edition, and ESPN has plenty of ways to keep the kids plugged in to all things X. There’s even something called “Hookit,” which up until now I thought was some kind of fancy tobacco pipe. Since I’m about 15 years older than the oldest X Games viewer, I’m not going to attempt to be “rad.” I’ll just let this pair of press releases from ESPN explain it: ESPN’s X Games Takes Over Downtown Los Angeles ESPN – together with Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and the Los […]

The Best Athletes In The World — And Seth Meyers — Gather To Celebrate Sports

The last time Seth Meyers took the stage at the ESPY Awards, things could have gone better. “Last year I gave out the ESPY for Best Play to Ben Roethlisberger and Santonio Holmes, and that was a big old jinx,” says the Saturday Night Live Weekend Update anchor, who also happens to be a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan. A year later, former Super Bowl MVP Holmes has been traded away for a 5th-round draft pick and, well, let’s just say that Big Ben has had some issues of his own. But the experience didn’t sour Meyers on the event. In […]
