Sunday MLB on TBS early 2011 schedule

By Ryan Berenz I usually forget that TBS airs Major League Baseball outside of October. TBS is back this season with its schedule of Sunday afternoon games beginning April 3 at 2pm ET with the Boston Red Sox at the Texas Rangers. For those tired of the constant media barrage of Yankees and Red Sox, TBS did you no favors. Six of the nine games announced involve either the Yanks or Sox, and the Phillies are on the schedule twice. I guess if you want to maximize viewers, Pirates vs. Marlins isn’t going to cut it. The TBS schedule through […]

NBA All-Star weekend is a slam dunk

Other than both teams actually trying to play defense in the 4th quarter of the NBA All-Star game — which we all know is extremely frowned upon — commissioner David Stern has to be smiling from ear to ear about the three days that showcased the best of what his league has to offer. The festivities began Friday with teen singing sensation Justin Bieber winning MVP honors in the celebrity game, which also featured Zac Levy of Chuck, comedian Nick Cannon, Jason Sudeikis of Saturday Night Live, rapper/actor Common and several former NBA stars. No word yet on how Bieber […]

ESPN BracketBusters: Who will wear the glass slipper this year?

By Tom Comi This is the weekend when the have-nots get to prove what they really have. It’s an opportunity to show they belong in the big-boy conversations. And it’s a chance for college basketball fans across the country to get a sneak peak at the unheralded teams that will shatter March Madness office pools across the country. BracketBusters weekend is an ESPN-created event that gives mid-majors (teams outside the six “power” conferences) exposure to state their case nationally and — most importantly — to the committee that will be determining which 68 teams make the prestigious NCAA Tournament. Don’t […]

By Ryan Berenz The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series kicks off the 2011 season with its biggest race, the Daytona 500 from Daytona International Speedway, on Sunday, Feb. 20, on FOX. There are plenty of questions heading into the season: Will the sport’s TV ratings improve? Will Dale Earnhardt Jr. actually win a race? Will Jimmie Johnson take his dominance of the Sprint Cup to six straight titles? Questions start getting answers as Johnson, Earnhardt, Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and other stock car stars fire up their engines at Daytona. “Friday Night Lights” is the gift that keeps on giving

By Tom Comi Fans of Friday Night Lights have been sad for some time knowing that the final season is wrapping up on NBC this spring. But the recent announcement that cast member Adrianne Palicki will star in a forthcoming remake of Wonder Woman on the same network is just one of many examples of how the actors of the show will be with us for many years to come. Although the program about a high school football team was never a big enough hit to justify another extension, Friday Night Lights always had a loyal following and received critical […]
