by Karl J. Paloucek Explorer, environmentalist and television host Jeff Corwin switches tacks in his new series, Extreme Cuisine With Jeff Corwin, premiering Sept. 17 on Food Network (HD): Instead of protecting wildlife species, he’s eating them. Traveling around the globe, from Morocco to Peru, Thailand to New England, Corwin connects with the people in each locale on one of the universal points that we all have in common — food. “We look at food differently in Western culture, sometimes — specifically in American culture,” Corwin explains. “We often eat fast, we often eat in large quantities, and we sort […]
If I could pick one thing everyone should have in their lives on a regular basis, near the top would be a bit of surrealism. If I could pick a second, it might as well be puppets. (Note that the two concepts rather complement one another.) Well, just in time for summer, IFC brings both your way in a new Internet transplant of sorts, Food Party, premiering June 9 as part of the IFC Automat. Created and hosted by upload artist Thu Tran and a group of her art-school buddies, the series follows her adventures in and around her colorful, […]
By ButtonKnows Oh, quit giggling at the title, ladies — you don’t even know what the show is about! It’s about dating. And, yes, it’s called In Men We Trust. And no, that’s not an April Fool’s funny. Resume giggling. Then get ready to hit www.wetv.com/singles/in-men-we-trust today (and then every Tuesday and Thursday beginning April 7) for new episodes of WEtv’s seven-episode, camp-tastic micro-series, which follows the romantic escapades of free-wheeling Liza, straight-arrow Grace and pragmatic Emma, a trio of New York ladies enrolled in relationship guru Mariel Cushing’s “dating boot camp.” Soon enough, the recruits discover their leader’s love life might not […]
By ButtonKnows Aw, like you need another reason to look forward to summer. Well, how about two of ’em? Just when its fans — and even its hosts — were losing hope that the long-wrapped sixth season of Project Runway would ever be cleared for takeoff on its new Lifetime Network home, NBC Universal, The Weinstein Co. and Lifetime jointly announced today that they have settled the lawsuit that threatened the show’s future, and that of a planned spin-off, Models of the Runway. Under the terms of the settlement, The Weinstein Co., which produces the show, will pay NBC Universal an […]
By Jeff Pfeiffer You know it’s only a matter of time before “Octo-Mom” Nadya Suleman gets a reality TV series. The intense public fascination about her case has come as no surprise, really, since television has become filled with the pitter-patter (or, in some cases, stampeding) of little feet. Several popular programs have already been chronicling the adventures of similar people who have suddenly found themselves saddled — er, blessed — with multiple kids all at once. And like the parents, these types of shows are reproducing quickly. In fact, a new one called Table For 12 starts March 23.
If you haven’t seen this commercial for Battleground Earth: Ludacris vs. Tommy Lee on Planet Green, check it out. Trust us, it’s worth 30 seconds of your time. (And anyone who thinks Tommy Lee is joking about not showering for seven days hasn’t read The Dirt.) The show, in which rapper/actor Chris “Ludacris” Bridges goes head-to-head with Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee to see which musician can lead a more eco-friendly lifestyle, doesn’t premiere until August 3. But we interviewed Ludacris this week, and this is a sampling of what he had to say about the show: Some people might […]
In the first few minutes of the first episode of the series, I learned why Paul McKenna is one of Britain’s top self-help experts: the guy I watched the show with did not leave the room when he heard it was a diet show, and he even stayed awake as McKenna enthusiastically presented his first four rules to reprogram his audience to eat like thin people. Yes, finally there’s a diet show geared to MEN. That’s because neuro-linguistic programming is science, not hype – or, at least, it sounds a lot like science – and men relate much better to […]
By Elaine Bergstrom Imagine shedding weight without having to follow an annoying diet or give up the foods you love. Sure, you’ve heard that line plenty of times before and, in spite of all the effort, if you’re like most dieters, the love handles keep growing. British self-help guru Dr. Paul McKenna offers a better idea in his series I Can Make You Thin, airing Sundays on TLC. Watch it, and he promises that you will get thinner as he helps you to reprogram your mind and transform your relationship with food. After watching the first episode, I’m hooked. And […]
