The Million-Dollar Question(s)

By RabbitEars Man, I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since the original, primetime version of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, hosted by Regis Philbin, aired. (And 10 years later it still bothers me that they don’t end the title with a question mark.) Although a version of the show has continued in syndication with host Meredith Vieira, it doesn’t have quite the same panache without Regis. But that is changing this summer. To celebrate the show’s anniversary, ABC is creating new Regis-hosted shows for primetime in a special two-week event this August. So phone your friends and let […]

“The Price Is Right” For Jack Wagner

By Jeff Pfeiffer CBS just announced that soap star/singer/celebrity golfer Jack “Frisco Jones” Wagner will, rather unsurprisingly at this point, make several “surprise” guest appearances throughout the March 6 installment of The Price Is Right. The Bold & the Beautiful actor will also be appearing in a Showcase at the end of the episode. P.S. Our apologies to those who may have thought this post was about the recently re-elected Pennsylvania auditor general, “Independent Fiscal Watchdog” Jack Wagner. Although he probably would know a good price when he saw it, as well. © 2009 CBS Broadcasting. Credit: Lisette M. Azar

Big “Wheel” Keeps On Turnin’

Posted By RabbitEars The iconic game show Wheel of Fortune is still spinning after 26 years and now celebrates a landmark anniversary — its 5,000th show, airing Feb. 27 (in syndication; check local listings). Over the course of 5,000 episodes, Wheel has welcomed 15,000 contestants (way too many of whom have frittered away their money on unnecessary vowels), awarded nearly $200 million in cash and prizes, traveled and taped on location 56 times in front of live audiences totaling more than 350,000 fans, and likely made Pat, Vanna and Merv millionaires several times over. Not bad for a simple variation […]

You Have Failed Me For The Last Time, George Lucas

Posted By RabbitEars Even though he will never let the embarrassingly bad 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special see the light of day, over the past decade George Lucas himself has seen fit to sell out his classic sci-fi/fantasy creation in some other, nearly-as-awful (but not even as campy) ways. The Star Wars merchandising galaxy has moved far, far away from mere Happy Meals and action figures into a whole other marketing universe. From Imperial stormtroopers appearing at NASCAR events, to Yoda pimping Diet Pepsi, to Chewbacca becoming spokes-Wookiee for Cingular Wireless — old-school fans have long said “no deal” to […]

“No Deal” To Breast Cancer

I don’t normally like NBC’s Deal Or No Deal, but I do have to applaud the show’s upcoming campaign to help fight and raise awareness of breast cancer. On an October 19 special episode (8pm ET), the show goes “pink” to show its support for the battle. Host Howie Mandel will be garbed in pink socks, the briefcase models will waltz on stage in pink dresses (carrying pink briefcases), and even the Play At Home Lucky Case Game has a “pink” theme, with home viewers having a chance to win $10,000 and a limited edition “Warriors in Pink” Mustang. A […]
