“The Kill Point” Countdown: Part 6

The extended version of my Channel Guide Magazine story from the set of Spike’s The Kill Point is now up at ChannelGuideMag.com, so be sure to check it out. It includes my interview with John Leguizamo, plus some other things that aren’t in The Kill Point Countdown blog. Steve Shill serves as coexective producer and directs all eight episodes of The Kill Point. His credits as director read like a roster of the best dramas on TV: Rome, The Tudors, ER, Dexter, Brotherhood, The Sopranos, The Wire. Shill’s involvement, probably more than anything else, signals to me that The Kill […]

“The Kill Point” Countdown: Part 5

I talked with actor Jeremy Davidson on the set of The Kill Point in Pittsburgh. Davidson plays the bank robber known as Mr. Rabbit (the older brother of Mr. Pig, played by Frank Grillo). Davidson’s pictured at right in this action photo from Spike. His character wears a beard, a suit and tie, and matching combat boots. Davidson looks like a natural with a shotgun, ducking in and out of the bank hallway, blasting at SWAT guys infiltrating the bank in a scene they were shooting that morning. In person, Davidson is a softspoken guy. He tells me that he’s […]

“The Kill Point” Countdown: Part 4

The July 22 premiere of Spike’s The Kill Point is a little over a month away, and we’ve still got a lot more coverage of the series coming. The July issue of Channel Guide Magazine has a special On The Set section where you can read about the filming of some of the gun battles in the bank and some of my interview with John Leguizamo, and there’ll be more from the set on channelguidemag.com. In The Kill Point Countdown posts, there’re also my interviews with actor Jeremy Davidson, Donnie Wahlberg and director Steve Shill yet to come. My preview […]

“The Kill Point” Countdown: Part 3

While on the set in Pittsburgh for Spike’s action/drama series The Kill Point, I had a chance to sit down with actor Frank Grillo, who plays one of the ex-soldiers turned bank robbers. Grillo’s had steady gigs in TV and film, highlighted by roles on The Shield and Prison Break. Soap opera fans might remember him from the few years he worked on Guiding Light. He’ll have a prominent role in The Express, a film currently in production about Ernie Davis, the first black player to win the Heisman Trophy. He also filled me in on a cool new project […]

“The Kill Point” Countdown: Part 2

In Part 2 of our posts from my set visit to Pittsburgh for the filming of the Spike action/drama series The Kill Point premiering July 22, I talked to cowriter and co-producer Todd Harthan (at left in the photo) about the series’ origin, why it ended up taking place in Pittsburgh and more about his plans for world domination. How did you come up with the series? Todd Harthan: [Co-writer James] DeMonaco and I, two of our favorite movies are Dog Day Afternoon and Heat, so we were big fans of bank robbery shows. The problem is there are a […]

“The Kill Point” Countdown: Part 1

I was in Pittsburgh visiting the set of a new Spike action/drama series called The Kill Point, premiering July 22. To prove that I was actually there, here’s a random photo I took of director Steve Shill gesticulating wildly at star John Leguizamo. The Kill Point is about a group of Iraq War veterans who rob a bank in downtown Pittsburgh. It doesn’t go well, and turns into a hostage situation and a standoff with police. Leguizamo (we’ve long since forgiven him for House of Buggin’) plays the gang leader and Donnie Wahlberg (we’ve long since forgiven him for NKOTB) […]
