I’m the cable repairman. I’m here to turn on your box. ESPN’s Best Of “This Is SportsCenter” Special

ESPN’s SportsCenter is, at times, difficult to watch, but the promos in the famous “This Is SportsCenter” campaign rarely disappoint (one of our favorites is above). On Dec. 11 at 8pm ET, ESPN airs a one-hour special hosted by Karl Ravech chronicling ESPN’s ad campaign, which began in 1995 and features mini mockumentaries that capture comical moments at ESPN’s Bristol campus when SportsCenter anchors interact with athletes, celebrities and mascots. The special will include more than 50 commercials, including the first-ever “This Is SC” spot and the debut of three others. Also included are interviews with athletes who’ve appeared in […]

Home On The Range Ain’t What It’s Cracked Up To Be In “Comanche Moon”

Forget your idyllic images of the Old West. In 1850s Texas, you’re more likely to get scalpings, rattlesnakes and tuberculosis than deer and antelope playing. An all-star cast of Val Kilmer, Steve Zahn, Rachel Griffiths, Karl Urban, Linda Cardellini, Elizabeth Banks, Wes Studi and Adam Beach team up in the six-hour miniseries Comanche Moon, a prequel to author Larry McMurtry’s Lonesome Dove saga, airing in three parts beginning Sunday, Jan. 13, and continuing Jan. 15-16 on CBS. Comanche Moon is written by McMurtry and Diana Ossana, and directed by Simon Wincer, who also directed the 1989 Lonesome Dove miniseries. Comanche […]

Stanford Vs. Cal: “The Play” Lives On

25 years later, the band still comes onto the field … Hard to believe it’s been 25 years since “The Play.” It’s been replayed and talked about countless times since. Versus reunited John Elway, Kevin Moen, Gary Tyrrell and Joe Starkey to celebrate the 25th anniversary of that game and share their memories in an hourlong special called Cal vs. Stanford: 25 Years Later, airing Nov. 24 at 6pm ET (it reairs Nov. 24 at 11pm, Nov. 28 at 7pm & 2am, and Dec. 1 at 2:30pm). 8 Questions With … Sal Masekela

1. What has been your strangest fan encounter? Sal Masekela: Last year at the Summer X Games, this kid followed me around all day, begging me for a dreadlock. Go get some scissors.” I cut off half of a dreadlock. I couldn’t believe how excited the kid was. 2. You’re at a magazine rack and can pick three magazines. What are they? Complex, Vanity Fair and Surfer. 3. What’s your […]

America’s Sexiest Sportscaster 2: Obviously Erin Andrews

[Update: Look, the spelling bee just got a whole lot sexier!] Playboy.com is running an online poll to determine America’s sexiest female sportscaster. The candidates are: Erin Andrews (ESPN), Colleen Dominguez (ESPN), Alex Flanagan (NFL Network), Shana Hiatt (NBC), Jamie Little (ESPN), Hazel Mae (NESN), Rachel Nichols (ESPN), Lisa Salters (ESPN), Lindsay Soto (FSN), Sage Steele (ESPN), Krista Voda (SPEED Channel) and Jeanne Zelasko (FOX). It’s presumed Erin Andrews is going to run away with this. Duh. But the biggest problem I find with the poll is that they’ve excluded all the candidates from their first Sexy Sportscaster poll, conducted […]

“My Name Is Earl”: Randy In Charge (…Of Our Days And Our Nights)

Better late than never with the Earl recap, I guess. With this week’s lackluster episode, maybe never was the better idea. “Randy In Charge (…Of Our Days And Our Nights)” finds Earl called to the warden’s office to assist him with the Scared Straight program. Earl will get five weeks knocked off his sentence if he organizes a group of prisoners to attend a school and scare kids. Randy, as we know, is not the best prison guard, and Earl is constantly bailing Randy out of trouble. Earl decides that Randy should be the guard for their Scared Straight visit, […]
