8 Questions With … Rob Lowe

1. What has been your strangest fan encounter? Rob Lowe: I’ve been really lucky: My fan encounters, to a person, have been wonderful. The one that pops to mind was my encounter with some fans, plural, when they banded together to create the Save Sam Seaborn Society [named after Lowe’s character on The West Wing]. They paid to take out full-page ads in newspapers to get Warner Bros. Television and NBC to write more for me, then they deluged the studio with thousands and thousands of pennies, because Sam fought to save the penny. 2. You’re at a magazine rack […]

8 Questions With … Reid Scott

1. What has been your strangest fan encounter? Reid Scott: I was on a trip to Costa Rica a year ago, and we took a white-water rafting expedition in the middle of the jungle. We had to take a series of vans to where you pick up the boat, and in the middle of the jungle, somebody in our van turns around and says, “Hey, is your name Reid Scott?” I’m like, “Oh my God, yeah. Why?” “Weren’t you on It’s All Relative?” I’m like, “Jesus, yeah.” Wow. That’s kind of weird. So in the middle of Costa Rica they […]

8 Questions With … David Cross

1. What has been your strangest fan encounter? This is strange in the surprising category. But I was on a boat, like a ferry, on the Bosporus in Istanbul, and I was sitting on the boat with my legs kind of dangling out and this guy came over and he spoke broken English. He said his son, who didn’t speak any English, recognized me, liked me, and his son was like 11 and they were from Lima, Peru. And I thought, “That is weird, I’m on a boat on the Bosporus, in Istanbul, being recognized by an 11-year-old who doesn’t […]

American Idol Fantasia Walks Right Into “A Fairy Tale”

“My life looks like a fairy tale in many ways, but you have to remember that life is not a fairy tale. I’m the American Idol … but I can’t even read a fairy tale to my 4-year-old daughter.” In her best-selling 2005 memoir, it was with this frank approach that Fantasia Barrino came clean about her illiteracy (she’s now working with tutors and pursuing her GED), sexual abuse and wild years growing up in North Carolina. While most people in the spotlight might be inclined to hide such a past from the media and fans, this 22-year-old felt that […]

“Digging” Josh Bernstein

When a series on The History Channel spawns its own comic book, you know that the times, they are a-changing. With Digging for the Truth and host-turned-comic-hero Josh Bernstein, the network has proved that history can be hip. Beyond the obvious comparisons to Indiana Jones and his rugged good looks, Bernstein is the real deal when it comes to smarts about “stones and bones.” A survivalist expert and graduate of Cornell University, Bernstein logged more than 100,000 miles during Digging‘s first season, and is in the process of upping that number in Season 2. “This time [I visited] 21 countries, […]
