Scott Bakula Hints at What’s Ahead for Pride on ‘NCIS: New Orleans’

When production wrapped for the night, the NCIS: New Orleans cast and crew threw star Scott Bakula a birthday bash fit for a king, complete with a sheet cake decorated with the image of his character, Special Agent Dwayne Pride. The following day, Bakula was back in Pride’s shoes, dispensing New Orleans-style justice and telling us all about it.

NCIS: New Orleans continues its sixth season on CBS with Tuesday’s new episode “Matthew 5:9” (10pm ET/PT) in which Special Agent Christopher Lasalle’s (Lucas Black) desperate hunt for the truth about his brother Cade (Clayne Crawford) comes to a critical point when evidence suggests a drug-trafficking ring may be involved.

Pride travels to Alabama to join Lasalle in searching for clues and assisting local law enforcement to track Cade’s last known whereabouts. Of course, Pride is going to do this investigation his own way.

“This guy wears his heart on his sleeve, anyway, so when you start messing around with his family or extended members of his family, he has trouble doing both things — taking care of his people and also doing his business,” Bakula says of Pride’s not-by-the-book mentality. “It’s a battle. It’s something he fights all the time.”

The case of Lasalle and his brother is deeply personal for Pride. “He has those kinds of parental emotions, and he and Lasalle have been together the longest,” Bakula says. “He’s nurtured him and been his mentor. He knows Lasalle’s story and knows the challenges he’s faced with his brother. Hopefully, the rest of Pride’s team can handle what’s going on in New Orleans so he can really devote himself to being there to help Lasalle in any way he can. It’s a powerful arc, and it’s explosive in many ways.”

It’s been a rough year for Pride, as well. He’s been suffering from nightmares, insomnia and hallucinations stemming from his traumatic experience being kidnapped and drugged last season. Bakula hints that these visions will put Pride on the path to some important realizations in coming episodes.

“He gets some information about some events that happened when he was a very young person that kind of help organize his mind a little bit in terms of looking back on his life and understanding why he is who he is,” Bakula says. “I think that’s going to be satisfying for the audience and, I think, for his character.”

  1. Just like stupid writers to just kill someone you like to watch along with the other cast, they just screw it up now just watch the ratings start to drop because of their stupidly

  2. I can’t believe Christopher was killed off the show. I have watched the show since NCSI N.O started, along with all of the NCSIs. Just because a character leaves doesn’t mean I am going stop watching. It is sad that y’all felt he had to die like he did. They ALL make the show a great show to watch or it wouldn’t have lasted this long. Please don’t cancel the show. There is to many STUPID reality shows on tv that is boring.

  3. Unless there is something wrong with him or someone in his family,is the only reason I can except this.

  4. Never saw this coming and am not happy about it. Not really interested in the show now that LaSalle has been killed off, if that where this show is going. Not sure why this happened.

  5. The show will not be the same without him, no need to stay up late Tues night anymore. This really stinks. He was the light and heart of New Orleans.

  6. I can’t believe you killed of Christopher. He is a main stay of the show. I’m not sure I can watch any more. Such a shame. Bad decision!!

  7. Lasalle was my favorite on the show! I CANNOT believe they killed him off! I’m from AL too and loved how he always worked in the AL stuff on the show, knowing it was authentic! I probably won’t watch the show anymore because of this, unless I find out Lucas Black wanted to leave. If they just wrote him off, I’m out!

  8. I cant believe yall killed iff LaSalle. He was the reason I watched the show! I will never watch this show again!!! Yall just had to go and run it!!!

  9. hope this was Black’s choice to leave. Not planning on watching many more episodes. Think this episode could have been done better. Christopher deserved a better send off.

  10. With City Mouse and Country Mouse gone – I have not more interest in the show. I was born in NoLa and always loved seeing my ole haunts and sites of the Crescent City on the show. My viewing in the future is now in question.

  11. So upset I can’t believe Christopher died! Why do all the good ones Leap! I watch all the NCSI’s and I’m so tired of everybody I like leaving! Pretty soon I’m not gonna watch any of them!!!

    • I can’t believe this just happened he and Pride made the picture I watch all the NCIS pictures old and new my heart is hurting I feel hurt don’t think I will watch any more. Make it a dream

  15. I am hoping they “killed “ off Christopher for some reason to catch a big drug ring!! He has to be “dead” for that to work. Pride and Christopher are like the meat and potatoes of the show. : (

  16. I’m stunned what were the writers thinking…Lucas Black is the real thing, it’s like losing a friend who made you feel safe

  17. I can’t believe Christopher was killed off. My heart. Is broken. Like that old saying “ If it’s not broke don’t fix it” Well now it’s broke and somebody better fix it. What a shame to ruin a good show. He is so damn charming and a great actor. Boo Hoo!
