As Burns notes at the beginning of the film, “You can’t understand the Mets without knowing his tale as well.” Featuring interviews with Seaver, his former teammates and opponents, and sportswriters and broadcasters, the film chronicles Seaver’s career with the Mets that ended with a devastating trade to the Cincinnati Reds. Seaver, as sportscaster Sal Marchiano explains, was the team’s “first home-grown star” and fans immediately connected with “Tom Terrific” – a bond that continued to grow as he turned the Mets from a laughing stock into world champions. And despite playing for other teams during his career, the film shows us why Seaver’s impact on the Mets organization and its fans will be felt for years to come.

The 37-year-old, who used an unregistered handgun, claimed that the youths had harassed him for money, leading the city to dub him the “Subway Vigilante.” The shooting sparked a nationwide debate on race, crime and self-defense, culminating in an ending no one would have predicted.

This is the fifth entry in the Critters horror/comedy film franchise about killer aliens.
