Jerry O’Connell stars as Harley Carter, a Hollywood star who retreats to his Canadian hometown after a very public — and very humiliating — red carpet meltdown. After the residents of the small town bombard him with requests to investigate local cases, Harley becomes a real-life detective and enlists the help of his childhood friends, Sam (Sydney Poitier Heartsong) and Dave (Kristian Bruun). O’Connell says, “I just think that genre of non-police person helping real police person [is] a formula that works on TV.”

A social study of sorts, ABC’s latest docuseries tests the human need for companionship under extreme circumstances as 12 individuals are dropped alone throughout various islets in Indonesia and challenged to survive with just their washed-up luggage, scattered resources and abandoned structures. The only way to leave is to persevere long enough to be rescued or to quit. As dramatic situations unfold on the remote islands, the series flashes back to the real lives of each participant in documentary fashion, demonstrating haunting parallels to the lives they left behind.

Hard Knocks: Training Camp With the Cleveland Browns

After an 0-16 season, things can only get better for the Cleveland Browns. The new season of HBO’s Hard Knocks training camp reality series follows the Browns through workouts and the preseason as they try to take a step forward with No. 1 overall draft pick QB Baker Mayfield. Making It: “Home Sweet Home”

The theme this week is homes, and Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman kick off the episode by challenging the Makers to work small and create a hometown terrarium that represents in miniature what makes their hometowns so special. After giving Amy, Nick and the judges a glimpse into their past, the Makers then must embrace their inner child in the Master Craft Challenge, where they create an impressive child’s play collection consisting of a fort and toy for the kids in their lives.

Frontline: “Documenting Hate: Charlottesville”

A revealing look at the white supremacists and neo-Nazis involved in the 2017 Charlottesville rally. An investigation with ProPublica shows how some of those behind the racist violence went unpunished and continued to operate around the country.

In the process, Davis created a haven for a generation of displaced black gay men. The film is the long-form directorial debut of internationally acclaimed choreographer Jamal Sims, and it debuted at the 2018 Miami Film Festival, where it won the Knight Documentary Achievement Award.

Agatha Christie’s novel Ordeal by Innocence comes to life in this three-episode limited series starring an ensemble cast that includes Bill Nighy, Anthony Boyle, Anna Chancellor, Morven Christie, Crystal Clarke, Christian Cooke, Alice Eve, Matthew Goode, Ella Purnell, Eleanor Tomlinson and Luke Treadaway. In Ordeal by Innocence, the Argyll family finds old wounds reopened when a man turns up and claims that the black sheep of the family, Jack Argyll, could not have murdered its tyrannical matriarch. The family must come to terms with Jack’s innocence and with the fact that one of them may be the real murderer.
