The 118th U.S. Open Championship golf tournament takes place at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., June 14-17, with first-round coverage airing today starting on FS1 and continuing on FOX. Based on George Pendle’s book, and with Ridley Scott as an executive producer, this drama is inspired by the true story of Jack Parsons (Jack Reynor). The brilliant Parsons started as a janitor at a chemical factory in 1930s Los Angeles but had dreams that led him to birth the new discipline of American rocketry. He ultimately became a disciple of occultist Aleister Crowley and used Crowley’s teachings of self-actualization to support his unimaginable endeavor to the stars. Season 1 runs 10 episodes, with a new installment available each Thursday to subscribers.

This year’s World Cup takes place June 14-July 15 in Russia, and the host country kicks off the Group Stage today on FOX with a match against Group A opponent Saudi Arabia. Jean Smart was working on the film Senior Moment when she heard a visitor talking to Lisa Kudrow on the phone. “I asked the woman to tell Lisa that her show on TLC is great,” says Smart, referring to Who Do You Think You Are?, the genealogy series Kudrow produces. “Instead, she handed me the phone and Lisa invited me on. I said, ‘I’d love to!’ and then started worrying that my family would be too boring to be included.” Hardly. The show’s researchers found Smart’s eighth great-grandmother, who ran a burglary ring with her daughters and got in trouble for telling fortunes.
