Jordan plays go-getter fireman Montag, eagerly torching books and stripping bibliophiles of their very identity until he steals a novel, reads it and realizes how much he has contributed to and sacrificed for an insidious cause. “Bradbury’s biggest concern about the erosion of culture is now,” Bahrani says. “And with the speed at which this is advancing, will we actually be able to get ahead of the dam, or … will [it] be up to some other generation to bring back Bradbury’s heroes?”
