WWE plans to pull out all the stops for its 25th Anniversary of Raw show January 22 live on USA Network. The company officially announced the historic event will emanate from the Barclays Center and Manhattan Center in New York City. The later venue was actually the site of the first episode of Raw.
And WWE will feature special appearances from some of the legends who were there in 1993 and helped put the program on the map including The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Kevin Nash. Not only will the superstars of the red brand be on hand for the festivities, but some faces from SmackDown Live as well.
“We look forward to celebrating this unmatched milestone with our fans around the world, but 25 years only marks the beginning of WWE surprising, delighting and entertaining generations to come,” said WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon in a release.
Monday Night Raw premiered January 11, 1993 and is the longest-running, weekly episodic program in U.S. primetime TV history. With no off week, the highly rated show has more original episodes than The Simpsons, Gunsmoke, Lassie and Monday Night Football.
The show served as a platform for many performers to transform into pop culture icons including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, John Cena, Chris Jericho, and the Bella Twins to name a few. Fans interested in celebrating the milestone firsthand can check out Ticketmaster for tickets, which go on sale November 3. Look for more details to be revealed in the coming weeks.
