Inspired by Josh Sanburn’s searing Time magazine cover story “The Toxic Tap,” producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan teamed with Cher, Queen Latifah and Katie Couric to bring the Michigan city’s deadly water pollution crisis, coverup and remarkable everyday heroes to television in this rousing original film. Condensing details on how water corrosive enough to destroy car parts was passed off as drinkable, the film focuses on real-life local moms LeeAnne Walters (Betsy Brandt) and Melissa Mays (Marin Ireland), who joined forces with activist Nayyirah Shariff (Jill Scott) to expose the wrongdoings, even as their own health declined.

Marry Me at Christmas

Bridal boutique owner Madeline Krug finds out she’ll be working closely with the brother of the bride, who happens to be Madeline’s celebrity crush, movie star Jonny Blaze. Stars Rachel Skarsten, Emily Tennant and Trevor Donovan.

The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special

SNL had a viral hit with last year’s Halloween-themed skit starring Tom Hanks as mysterious pumpkin-jacketed character David S. Pumpkins (“Any questions?”), and now Pumpkins gets to be the star of his own half-hour holiday special. It’s an animated story, with Hanks reprising his role in a voiceover and appearing in a live-action introduction. Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan also reprise their roles as Pumpkins’ b-boy skeleton dancers, and Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage has a voice role. Although it’s airing in late-night, NBC says that this special is family-friendly.

The Fog

Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis and Janet Leigh star in this John Carpenter classic about the legend of the small town of Antonio Bay. The town was built in 1880, supposedly with blood money obtained from shipwrecked lepers, though no one believes this. On the eve of the town’s centennial, many plan to attend the celebrations, including the murdered lepers.

The Walking Dead: “The Damned”

Helltown

This series is inspired by a real event that spawned decades of questions about why the federal government completely evacuated a small town in Ohio in 1974. Rumors run rampant about why Boston, Ohio, a small town in middle America, was evacuated and essentially erased off the map. Was it massive, mutation-causing chemical spills? Is the town plagued by paranormal activity? Was it overrun by satanic cults? Cameras go inside this now-defunct town to seek answers.

Berlin Station: “Do the Right Thing”

Ever since CIA agent BB Yates (Ashley Judd) assumed the top spot at the titular German outpost in Berlin Station’s Season 2 premiere, the tough-as-nails boss has largely remained a mystery. That changes with tonight’s flashback-heavy episode. “We take a look under the hood and shine some light on where the BB of today — a maverick who runs off-the-book espionage missions — comes from,” executive producer Bradford Winter teases. Her right hand, Robert Kirsch (Leland Orser), faces his own complications now that his estranged 13-year-old son has moved in to attend a nearby school.
