Tricia Helfer stars as Kate, a woman whose romantic getaway turns into anything but relaxing when her boyfriend shifts his focus from pleasure to business in search of his next deal. Seemingly abandoned, Kate discovers that an old friend from her camp counselor days is the resort’s activities director (Helfer’s former Battlestar Galactica castmate Paul Campbell), who happily leads her on tropical adventures. Helfer shares, “It’s about finding your passion again and listening to your true self.” Duck Dynasty star Sadie Robertson also appears in the film.

The Essentials: “White Heat”
TCM, 8pm
William Friedkin’s choice for this week’s The Essentials is the classic crime-heist White Heat. It is one of the last of Warner Bros.’ gritty crime films and is an entertaining and hypnotic movie of a flamboyant, mother-dominated, psychotic killer. It was also 50-year-old Jimmy Cagney’s return to his popular, tough-guy gangster image. He even had his hand in molding the part he played, in suggesting to the writers to pattern the character of Cody Jarrett and his mother after the legendary outlaws Ma Barker and her boys and to make Cody psychotic. The movie’s infamous line “Made it, Ma! Top of the world!” was voted as the No. 18 movie quote (out of 100) by the American Film Institute.

College Football: Stanford vs. Rice

The U.S. champion takes on the international champion today at Howard J. Lamade Stadium in South Williamsport, Pa., for the 2017 Little League World Series title.

Jennifer Shannon (Lori Loughlin) buys an old reel-to-reel recorder and discovers the recording of a violent struggle and a man’s voice pleading for his life. She learns that the former owner of the recorder is a retired therapist and finds his corpse in the apartment of one of his former female students, who hasn’t been seen for several days. Jennifer’s investigation reveals that the love lives of the therapist’s patients are deeply entangled, and after the missing female student is murdered, Jennifer’s suspicions fall on the therapy group.

Tennis: US Open, Early Rounds

The year’s last Grand Slam returns to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y., with US Open early rounds beginning today on ESPN and shifting to ESPN2 in the evening. Angelique Kerber is the reigning women’s singles champion. Men’s champion Stan Wawrinka ended his season due to injury. ESPN and ESPN2 combine to air the tournament through Sept. 10.

Meanwhile, Ryleigh strives to get back into Todd’s good graces after questioning his coaching. Can the Ladybirds pull together to perform this challenging routine?

This 2-hour animated adventure introduces DC Comics’ female crime fighter Vixen. Originally from Africa, Mari McCabe’s (voiced by Megalyn Echikunwoke) parents were killed by local greed, corruption, and wanton violence. But the orphaned Mari refuses to succumb to the terrors surrounding her. Inheriting her family’s Tantu Totem, Mari can access the powers of animals — anything from the super-strength of a gorilla to the speed of a cheetah. As Vixen, she fights valiantly to protect the world from the threats like those that claimed her family.

MasterChef: “A Mexican Tag Team Challenge/The Great Outdoors”

In this week’s mystery box challenge, the top nine must create a dish using Nutella as the key ingredient. The challenge’s losers must pair up for a Mexican-themed tag-team challenge. Then, the top eight head to Big Bear Lake to cook fresh fish.

In the new episode “Coup de Grace,” Grace (Jennifer Finnigan) and Darius (Santiago Cabrera) seek answers from the president (guest star Tovah Feldshuh), while Harris (Ian Anthony Dale) discovers deadly secrets.

Based on Miriam Horn’s book, this documentary was an official selection of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. Narrated by Tom Brokaw and directed by Emmy winners Susan Froemke and John Hoffman, the film crosses the country to chronicle families who work the land and sea, and who are crossing political divides to find unexpected ways of protecting the natural resources vital to their livelihoods.

The USA Network series (currently airing Tuesdays) starring Ryan Phillippe was based on this 2007 film starring Mark Wahlberg as a former Marine Corps sniper who leaves the military after a mission goes bad. After he is reluctantly pressed back into service, Swagger (Wahlberg) is double-crossed again. With two bullets in him and the subject of a nationwide manhunt, Swagger begins his revenge, which will take down the most powerful people in the country. The film also stars Kate Mara, Danny Glover and Michael Peña.

College Football: Utah State at Wisconsin

College football’s kickoff weekend continues with this Friday night matchup in Madison, Wis., as the Utah State Aggies visit the Wisconsin Badgers on ESPN.

Hachi: A Dog’s Tale
