From Mickey Donovan to Hallmark Movies & Mysteries? Jon Voight Has Us Loving J.L. Family Ranch

Jon Voight and James Caan are embittered enemies in a battle over Texas land in Hallmark Movies & Mysteries‘ emotionally charged new movie J.L. Family Ranch, premiering Sunday, August 21 at 9pm. Voight brilliantly embodies the character of veteran rancher John Landsburg, who risks losing his land when his old enemy Tap Peterson (Caan) comes a-calling. The film also boasts the talents of Melanie Griffith, Grant Bowler and Teri Polo.

The Romeo and Juliet-like story line includes a long-standing feud between the Peterson and Landsburg families over land. To further the similarities, Rebecca Landsburg fell for the forbidden Caleb Peterson when they were teenagers. Rebecca found herself pregnant but never heard from Caleb again. All grown up, Rebecca must revisit her past as her college-aged daughter seeks answers about her father.

John Landsburg — the father and main owner of the ranch — must fight off Tap Peterson, who involves the federal bureaucracy when he claims the Landsburgs do not, in fact, own the land the ranch dwells on. John’s daughters and son step in to help and prove that blood is thicker than water. Rebecca Landsburg calls out, “We live and die for the land that our fathers gave us.” This ranch has been passed down in their family for generations and the Landsburgs refuse to give it up without a fight.

This dramatic film deals with greed and corruption, but illustrates the power one family has by sticking up for what is fair and doing it together. As summer winds to a close, this is the perfect film to end the season on a bright note.
