The Night Of
HBO, 9pm
New Series!
HBO’s obsession-worthy limited series began as a passion project for the late actor James Gandolfini. John Turturro — by turns steely and heartbreaking — stars as hustling New York City attorney Jack Stone, who stumbles onto what could be the biggest case of his life, defending bewildered college kid Nasir Khan (a haunting Riz Ahmed), who may or may not be guilty of murder. An adaptation of Peter Moffat’s BBC drama of the same name, this version — crafted by Oscar-winning screenwriter Steven Zaillian and The Wire scribe Richard Price — takes Moffat’s twisty crime-and-justice tale and adds potent racial and sociopolitical layers that make the eight-parter unforgettable.
