Things took an unexpected turn on last week’s episode of Devious Maids when Spence suddenly collapsed in jail. Luckily he’s okay and in the hospital with Rosie by his side. The only problem is, he’s not exactly free like he thought he was.
When the doctor comes in with the test results, he tells Spence that he’s going through withdrawals. Not from alcohol, but drugs. Spence said he wasn’t taking anything and that’s when Rosie jumps ahead and says it must’ve been Ben. That would be the perfect explanation to how Ben got Spence to confess to Peri’s murder. The girl may sound crazy, but I think she has a valid point. You’re definitely onto something, Rosie.
Somebody alert the media — Evelyn is actually working for once in her life! Okay, so she’s not doing much in the way of physical labor, but she is working for Marisol by helping put together an important gala. And by helping, I mean answering a phone call whenever she feels like it. Oh, Evelyn, how I envy you.
After finding out that she has two mothers, Danni ran off and crashed at Jesse’s place. Danni wants to continue avoiding her mothers, so she makes Jesse promise to not tell Carmen where she is. I feel bad for Jesse. That’s a tricky situation to be stuck in.
Jesse stops by Marisol’s to ask for her advice on what he should do with the situation he’s in with Danni. Of course he shows up when Marisol is trying on beautiful gowns for the gala Peter invited her to. Jesse tells Marisol that the gown she has on is a keeper and I’m sitting here thinking you’re a keeper, Jesse. Why can’t these two get back together?!
It’s no secret that our ladies like to gossip. However, when they try to keep secrets from one of the ladies in the group, we all know that’s not going to last very long.
Over their usual coffee gossip session, Marisol accidentally leaks out Carmen’s secret about being Danni’s mother. She thought that was the secret the rest of the girls were talking about, but it was actually the secret Marisol didn’t know about — Zoila pretending to be rich — that the girls were talking about. After all the secrets were revealed, Marisol lets Carmen know that she knows where Danni is.
At least we got one thing covered in this conversation.
Peter invited Marisol to be his date to the gala that she and Evelyn are in charge of planning — but the only way that Marisol can accompany Peter is if she lets Evelyn be in charge of the staff. Excuse me while I laugh. Evelyn doesn’t give Marisol a simple no, but also tells her to dump Peter. She says he’s only wanting to use her as eye candy at the gala. What Evelyn is really trying to avoid is Adrian seeing her working.
Marisol knows what Evelyn is up to and tells her she’s going to be in charge of the staff whether she likes it or not. You go, Marisol!
Carmen and Josefina pay Danni a surprise visit by showing up at Jesse’s. Turns out Danni is only mad at Josefina because she lied to her this entire time. She even tells her that she was never her mother. Danni said she always felt that something was off and now she knows why. I think Carmen is just going to sit back on this one since Danni isn’t mad at her directly.
I’ll never understand rich people like Adrian and Evelyn. The two can’t stand each other, but they meet up to divide their “social calendars,” so they’re not attending the same events. Adrian can see right through Evelyn and knows that there’s a reason why she doesn’t want him attending the Hamilton Gala. She obviously lies to him by saying she has a date, instead of telling him that she’ll be working.
Genevieve’s new BFF Fabian might be turning into her new BF. What’s got Genevieve questioning their relationship is that she thought Fabian was gay, but — Genevieve being Genevieve — she is curious if she’s so gorgeous that she made a man turn straight. Rosie tries telling her that what she should be thinking about is if she’s attracted to him. Genevieve says the kiss was enjoyable, but she thought Fabian was wearing more lip gloss than her. I guess that’s an answer?
Zoila noticed that Kyle has become jealous of her and Adrian’s…um…thing. Now that she knows she has something to use against Kyle, she agrees to another date with Adrian. She has Adrian go outside to ask her, though, because she’s hoping Kyle is watching through his windows. I think Zoila was too focused on making Kyle jealous that she didn’t exactly hear what she agreed to. Oh well!
Rosie was hoping that she could get Spence to agree to her plan about catching Ben giving Spence more drugs. Spence tells Rosie that Ben is dangerous and he doesn’t want to have to deal with him again. Since Rosie is stubborn sometimes, she pays Ben a visit by herself. She tells Ben that Spence is in the hospital and that she thought he’d like to visit him. Rosie also tells him that Spence is starting to talk about the night of the murder and something about “The Circle.” Sure enough, Ben suddenly becomes interested in visiting Spence, so Rosie tells Ben when the guard takes his break. Hopefully Ben falls right into Rosie’s trap.
Well, Genevieve’s dinner date with Fabian didn’t go quite as planned. First, Genevieve didn’t even know it was a date. Apparently Fabian made it obvious that it was by packing an overnight bag. Genevieve finally tells Fabian that she can’t be with him. That’s when he tells her that she’d be more open if she would’ve read the book he gave her. She admits that she tried reading the book but found it boring. Fabian’s last words to her were that Genevieve couldn’t understand the book because she’s too old. Yikes!
Ben visits Spence and gives him a good ol’ cup of joe. At first, Spence is hesitant to drink the coffee, but then Spence sees Rosie outside his hospital room, signaling for him to drink it. She captures a video of Ben handing over the coffee to Spence and then Spence drinking it. I really hope this plan works!
Adrian shows up to the gala and sees Evelyn dressed in working clothes. He wants to rub everything he can in her face, so he asks his date, Zoila, to meet Evelyn. Oh, the irony. The two already know each other and Evelyn knows the truth about Zoila, so Evelyn will rub that right back in Adrian’s face. I have to laugh with Evelyn on this one. She tells Adrian that Zoila is Genevieve’s maid as she walks away, laughing hysterically. I bet that felt really good to say.
Danni wants to know everything about her new mother, Carmen. She even wants to call Carmen mom. It’s clear that Carmen is not up for it and tells Danni that she already has a mother — Josefina. Now that Josefina went back home, Danni has to go make things right before she’s left without any mother at all.
Uh oh! Marisol wasn’t okay with sitting at the “girl’s table” talking about yoga and facials while Peter and his buddies were talking important business. When she finally blew up, Peter came over to let her know that one of the ladies she just insulted at the table was Peter’s boss. That’s going to be a hard one to recover from.
As if Evelyn’s night wasn’t already at its peak, she just got asked out at the gala. The Reverend was watching Evelyn all night and thought she looked happy helping people. If he only knew! Well, at least it helped her snag a date.
Marisol might have made a fool of herself, but her movie is back in production and she is in charge of writing the new script. Woohoo!
Zoila’s plan worked. Kyle comes over and tells her he was dumb for leaving her. He tells her that he wants to be back with her but doesn’t want his mom finding out. I agree. Let’s make sure mama bear doesn’t find out.
Danni is on a mission to make things right with her mom by going back home and apologizing. However, she also wants to track down her birth father. Carmen wasn’t ready to reveal who he was, so Danni is on her own.
Genevieve actually helps Rosie out for once. She listens to what Rosie has found so far about Peri’s murder and stops her once she hears “The Circle.” Genevieve gives Rosie the book that Fabian wanted her to read and tells Rosie that from what she read, it sounded like an cult. Better get to reading, Rosie!
Oh no! Kyle’s a bad guy! We see Ben talking with Kyle about how he gave Spence the drug that Kyle gave him, but nothing happened. Kyle said people were starting to raise questions because Ben got him addicted. Turns out Kyle’s mother is in on this too, and by the way these two are talking, Ben is Kyle’s brother. It sounds like their mother is orchestrating everything in this “Circle.”
I’m getting Psycho vibes and I don’t like it.
What were your thoughts on this episode of Devious Maids? Were you shocked to find out Kyle is a bad guy? Does this mean he’s using Zoila? It seems like his mother has some serious issues so I wouldn’t want to get on her bad side if I were Zoila. Predictable. They are using Zoila to get through to Adrian’s money and circles. Peri knew about the circle, and she was going to reveal the truth and was killed by Kyle’s mother (who was invited to the party, of course). Also, Carmen was raped (as revealed in the last serious) so this is why she won’t talk about it (or like this future guest star!!)
