This week, Blindspot was all about relationships. Reade (Rob Brown) is still heartbroken over Sarah, but Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) was getting comfortable with Allie (Trieste Kelly Dunn), sparks were flying between Jane (Jaimie Alexander) and Oscar (Francois Arnaud), and Patterson (Ashley Johnson) and David (Joe Dinicol)… well, they may still be a thing! It’s all very complicated, so we’d better get to the recap!

BLINDSPOT recaps: Episode 1 | Episode 2 | Episode 3 | Episode 4 | Episode 5 | Episode 6 | Episode 7 | Episode 8 | Episode 9 | Episode 10 | Episode 11 | Episode 12 | Episode 13 | Episode 14 | Episode 15

In the first few seconds of “Any Wounded Thief” (which scrambles to “Find What You Need”), we see an armored truck getting robbed. The action quickly moves to Weller’s apartment, where he discovers Sarah is gone. She’s obviously bitter over the whole thing with Reade — and rightfully so.

Patterson starts her work day with a phone call. It’s some restaurant confirming a reservation that’s under David’s name. He made it a month ago, which probably means it was very important. Maybe he was planning to propose. Sheesh, can’t this poor girl just get a chance to heal?

Maybe she needs a few rounds in the workout room, which is where Reade and Weller are having it out. It seems like Weller is having a change of heart about Reade dating Sarah, since she reacted really poorly to the breakup. Well, duh! Did he expect her to be happy about the whole thing?

Weller then finds Jane Doe and wishes her a happy birthday. Of course, she was unaware it was her birthday and seems even more surprised when Weller hands her a gift. That little moment is quickly ruined when Allie walks up. Jane knows she’s a third wheel and takes off. Allie and Weller then go on to make plans for the evening… and Weller even smiles! (And not just because of the muffin and coffee Allie delivers to him.)

During the morning briefing, Patterson attempts to fill everyone in on the robbery. That confirmation call seems to be throwing off her usual mojo, so Mayfair (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) guides her through. It turns out that the truck logo isn’t a real company, but is connected to a tattoo on Jane’s body. Since it’s not a real company, the FBI team needs to find out who they are and what they were transporting before it was stolen.

At the crime scene, Weller pulls a tube out of a dead guy’s pocket. It’s labeled “Atropine and Pralidoxime for use in nerve agent poisoning.” Someone’s got Sarin Gas, people!

Patterson says that the USACMA (United States Army Chemical Materials Agency) is located conveniently down the street. She also says that Mayfair is reaching out to General Mark Sheridan, the guy in charge there. She also IDs the deceased and says that these three guys had worked for an import/export company and a woman named Vanessa Chang. As the group goes to move, Jane starts having flashbacks. She’s picturing a memorial for Taylor Shaw. It’s in honor of her 30th birthday. Weller is there, as is her mother… and Taylor/Jane herself!

Back at the FBI, Sheridan says that the chemicals didn’t come from his place. He doesn’t seem to think anyone he knows would be involved. Chang has a few things to say about the drivers, but also denies any wrongdoing.

Patterson finds that there was a fourth man involved, named Sam Lee. However, he wasn’t one of the deceased. Weller comes to the conclusion that Lee was the one who shot the driver. Before Weller, Jane, Reade, and Zapata take off to find him, Patterson doles out a round of antidotes, just in case any of the crew is exposed to the gas.

The four arrive at Lee’s house, just as he’s walking out. Lee grabs a bystander for collateral and starts shooting at the FBI team. Weller creeps up and takes him out. They immediately go through his wallet and phone. It turns out the General is a frequent contact and not so innocent after all.

Back at the FBI, Patterson is going over her phone call from the day with Dr. Borden (Ukweli Roach). He urges her to use David’s reservation. I get the whole closure thing, but doesn’t that sound like a really terrible idea?

That will have to come later, though. Patterson is too busy digging up information. She finds out that there are a lot of chemicals missing. Reade interrupts with information about two guys on the General’s security team, who seem to be in on it. Patterson then tries to convince Mayfair to get more people in to help with the whole Jane Doe case. It doesn’t seem too promising, though.

As the FBI searches for the General, Jane starts having additional flashbacks, which include some interactions between Weller and his father. How she could hear their conversation is anyone’s guess. However, that’s interrupted by the discovery of a manhole under the snow. The crew then go underground, which is where the General is hiding. When they find him, he’s holding a detonator, which could blow the many tanks of gas sprinkled around the room. His sob story doesn’t seem to impress Jane, since she takes the dude down in three seconds. Two seconds later, he outs Chang as the other villain in this week’s episode.

The FBI team then tracks the missing tanks to a place that has the same logo as the keycard found in Lee’s wallet. A quickie gunfight erupts outdoors, but since the tanks are inside, Weller and Jane know they can’t take any chances. Chang, on the other hand, isn’t as bright. She quickly puts a hole into one of the tanks and the three start gasping for air. Seeing how Weller is such a good guy, he gives Jane her antidote first. She sees Chang grasping for something similar, and puts a bullet into her. She then tells Reade to give Chang his antidote, while Jane tends to a puking Weller.

Reade asks Chang repeatedly who her target is, but she replies, “You’re too late.”

At the FBI, Chang tells Weller and Jane that she works for North Korea, but she doesn’t know who or what the target is. They don’t need her, though. They have Patterson, who narrows down the Stock Exchange as the most obvious choice.

At the Stock Exchange, Weller and Reade spot the first suspect on the floor. Jane and Zapata find a second guy while looking down from a room above. As Weller and Reade move through the crowd to catch their guy, Jane shoots right through a glass window, which rains down on the people below. She follows the glass like Spider-Man and knocks out the suspect with one punch. Weller and Reade then grab the other guy.

At the end of the day, Zapata tells Reade that he’s making a mistake with Sarah. He tells her that this is the type of job where you can’t really have a spouse and family. In the locker room, Jane thanks Weller for her birthday necklace. He tells Jane that it belonged to her mom. She pushes for a birthday drink, but Weller has plans with Allie.

As Reade goes to leave, Mayfair calls him into her office. She’s not buying his story about Jane Doe from the week before. She thinks he knows more, but he’s not giving in.

Zapata ends her day with a little gambling. Okay, it’s a lot of gambling. It’s $5K just to get into whatever room she’s in!

Weller and Allie are the only ones that seem to be semi-happy at the end of this episode. Well, sort of. Allie tells him that things are going well and she doesn’t want Weller sabotaging the whole thing.

As Jane looks over her new birthday gift, Oscar appears and says she needs to get even closer to Weller. She refuses to break up his relationship with Allie, but he says they all have to make sacrifices. Then as he starts to tell Jane how hard it is to meet with her all the time, he kisses her. She not only kisses him back, but the two start to get very passionate.

Patterson goes to the restaurant, where she has a bourbon and a conversation with a deceased David. She also completes his last crossword puzzle, which includes a clue about another tattoo. Is she crazy or just crazy distraught? It looks like we’re going to find out next week!

Okay, Blindspotters; is this the end of Allie — or Oscar, for that matter? I have to wonder if his one night with Jane Doe will jeopardize the whole operation. Also, why would Zapata go back to gambling? Were Reade’s words so depressing that she turned back to the one thing that gives her a little joy? Also, anyone know what the heck her game of choice was? And what’s up with Mayfair? She was barely in this week’s episode, except when she was doubting Reade. Patterson had the saddest ending this week, though. Is she losing it or just trying to justify David’s death? Judging by next week’s previews, it looks like she may be joining him for more than just dinner! What do you guys think? Sound off in the comments section below!

Blindspot airs Monday nights at 10/9CT on NBC.

  1. I think Mayfair knows a lot more than she is telling. She is not just involved in Daylight. She knows all the dirty stuff going on. Weller asked her when he found out about Daylight. He asked “What else aren’t you telling me?” She looked down shook her head then looked away and said “Nothing.”

I don’t think Allie is the mole, but would not be surprised if she is. I believe Oscar honestly loves Jane – from the flashbacks it looks like they truly loved each other, but she gave back the ring because she would know remember him.

These flashbacks are interesting. How much of them are true vs. planted in Jane/Taylor’s head? It will be interesting to see who the real big bad is of this whole operation.

I am also curious about what happens at the end of the season. Does Jane stay with the FBI? Does she form her own team?

I do love the episode title anagrams. Courtesy of the REDDIT BLINDSPOT folks:
