2016 NHRA TV schedule on FOX Sports

Go here for the 2017 NHRA TV schedule on FOX Sports.

FOX Sports and the NHRA agreed to a TV rights deal that will have FOX Sports broadcasting more than 450 hours of NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series programming annually beginning in 2016.

Previous TV rights holder ESPN was often criticized by NHRA fans for airing only same-day taped race coverage that was often preempted by other live sports. The NHRA’s deal with FOX brings the sport to a network that has a strong commitment to motorsports.

The 2016 season on FOX Sports begins with the 56th Annual Circle K Winternationals in Pomona, Calif., Feb. 12-14. FS1 airs qualifying from Pomona on Friday, Feb. 12, beginning at 10:30pm ET. Qualifying continues on FS1 early Sunday morning at 1am ET. The Winternationals Finals air live on FS1 Sunday beginning at 5pm ET.

Dave Rieff provides the play-by-play, with analyst Tony Pedregon. Bruno Massel and Jamie Howe report from the pits, with feature reports by John Kernan, and stats and features from Lewis Bloom.

  1. Unbelievable! Most inept coverage I have ever seen.
Most of the time you had no idea who won the race. Sporadic graphics at the beginning and end of races. Bumbling, stumbling comments from Pedregon. No burnouts. Hey, NHRA/FOX S1 do you really think you are going to bring more viewers to the sport by this amateur production.

On top of all that, you get rid of Mike Dunn. He was the best thing on the show.

You have probably alienated more fans in one broadcast than ESPN did in 10 years. Way to go!!
Better wake up quickly. Your already the laughing stock of drag racing.

  2. I spoke to Fox Australia and they reckon they wont be showing it. When I asked the simple question that if Fox America broadcasts, why cant it be broadcast here…the response was, they don’t always broadcast he same things,,,,yea thank FOX – for NOTHING,,, upgraded to HD 2 months ago for nothing.
I’m getting rid of my fox sports and maybe fox as this isn’t the first time they’ve done this….

  3. Your lucky you got to see any broadcast at all. We have 7 Fox Sport channels in Australia (plus 2 ESPN) and nothing is being broadcast.

  4. Very disappointed with NHRA on FS1. Not very good coverage, missing lots of stats like qualifying position, etc. Wish ESPN and Mike Dunn were back. I will probably skip this race season due to poor performance by FS1.

    • Very excited for first race and terribly disappointed that the sound was weak and distance very far away and no Mike Dunn. Did they outsource this to another country to cut cost?????

  5. Terrible, terrible coverage. All 15 previous comments are absolutely correct. I used to really enjoy watching the NHRA drags but not if it is going to be like this. You need to contact ESPN to find out how to do it right.

  6. we can’t get the races on any channel, why not ESPN 2 and of course if Pedregon is announcing we won’t watch it anyway, didn’t like him as a driver and definetly not talking ,PLEASE replace him!

    • Cathy, we to are in the DARK outside of the states.

Peter Clifford doesn’t give a rats about anyone outside the US.

  7. Please !!!!!!!!!! Re-consider bringing back mike Dunn. Tony Pedragon is a Whinney little kid, and he does not bring anything to the NHRA, except a loosing streak for years. I know you can do better than this FOX.

    • Mike Dunn was appointed El Presidente of the IHRA. Check out the vid of his announcement.

Good One Peter Clifford letting Mike Go! you just let the Tiger out of the Tank.

  8. NHRA drag racing the 60’s biggest motor sport to 2016 motor sports biggest TV none event Rugby league, Tennis, Super league, Cricket, Basketball, Golf, on 501 Fox Sports 1 and they have not got 1hr sunday slot from qualifying form one of the biggest Darg race meetings of the year. or do I have the wrong channel?

    • Rick, you could have 50 Foxtel Boxes and you wont see a thing.

Join Facebook page Foxtel bring back NHRA.

    • Yeap, but with some people only having Foxtel in Australia for the NHRA, how many cancellations will they get.

Smart Move Foxtel, don’t get the rights, thats cool, we can stream it for free anyway or watch it on demand then skip through all your precious ads that you want us to watch.

So funny on the Lucas Oil ONE HOUR (cough) show, there were messages that came up a few times “Fox Sports GO Commercial Break in Progress”. Ha what happened couldn’t sell the air time haHA WHAT A LAME TELECAST.

    • Hi Ann, so you don’t get NHRA on FS1, how come, do you have to pay more?
I thought that was Peter Cliffords Grand Plan, to take over the world and expose the unwashed to NHRA Drag Racing?

Could of fooled me. We didn’t know we couldn’t get it till a couple of weeks before Pomona.

We can’t get it outside of the US either . The World is in darkness.

  9. It would be nice if I could print the schedule instead of being sent to a channel guide magazine.

  10. Does the producer realize Drag Racing is not just the move from the starting line to the finish line. No burnouts, not much from the pit’s, no JOHN FORCE insane rant’s, new pro stock rules and not much discussion. Force on fire and trying to get body up yeah let’s cut to a commercial. We true fans watch for the whole story, please get it figured out and yes Toni would not have been my choice

    • Bob So TRUE. Ad breaks what? you poor people. I cant belive the amount and length of them.

Gota loose, the start up, burnout, back up, staging, interviews, any info on the run like WHO WON, what was the RT oh right they displayed to 2 decimal point, don’t worry about the 3rd or 4th place, they can’t count that far and it will only confuse our new precious audience that we have to panda to.
“Tell me LD what are they doing wiping the tyres?” “Well Tony blah blah blah, wait a minute didn’t you race?, you should of got your crew guys to do this and you might of won more races, gee to late now”
Unreal WE are DUMB. We lost our brains when they switched off the ESPN and now it’s on Fox. Lets Dumb it down for the natives.

  11. If first race of season is any indication you may as well have stayed with espn. Open up on Friday at 10.30 pm no one watching, nothing on Saturday give me a break.Second biggest race off season fox, espn same o same o.Next thing we’ll be watching womens Jacks or something.I was hoping for a lot better.

  12. Tony Pedregon??? Please. Think I’ll fast forward his ass and just watch the races. Also. Why is there no tv schedule for Topeka???

  13. You have got to be kidding me. Tony Pedregon. He is hated as a driver and you are going to put him on as a commentator? Why in the word did you not get the best, Mike Dunn? Man it is really going to be hard to watch this season. Man what a stupid move.

    • Robert Mikes now the El Presidente at the IHRA.

I bet Peter Clifford didn’t see that coming haha.

  14. is this on in Australia. better not get it and not show to loyal fans who have been watching for 20years

    • Gavin, please join our facebook page Foxtel bring back NHRA All the latest info is up.

Nothing yet but we are lobbying and mailing and everything trying to make it happen.

      |Rumour today is that it’s going to 7MATE but we can’t confirm.

Peter Clifford forgot about the rest of the world when he decided to switch to FOX.
He also forgot to engage his brain. Everyone outside the states is in darkness.
