Survivor recap episode 9: A witches coven on Survivor?

Survivor: Second Chance recap “Witches Coven,” Season 31, Episode 9 (original airdate Nov. 18): It’s day 21 and we’re down to 11. Kelley Wentworth is soaking up her victorious immunity idol shocker. She gloats: “I just idoled Andrew Savage out of Survivor: Second Chance!” Kimmi thinks it’s time to break up the witches coven: Wentworth, Ciera and Abi-Maria. She might be right as these gals definitely have brewed up a wicked good way to stay in this game.

Suvivor recap episode 9Reward Challenge
It’s two teams of five, so someone has to sit this one out in a schoolyard pick. Looks like no one wants Abi so she sits it out with no chance for immunity. The challenge requires the teams to use wooden pegs to build a straircase, then work their way through a maze. Once through the maze one person has to navigate a rope obstacle to get a key to unlock a treasure chest. The chest is filled with puzzle pieces, where two tribe members must solve the puzzle that reveals three combination numbers. Once they get their combination solved and their flag raised they win the challenge. The winners go to the Suvivor spa – complete with showers, massages, sandwiches, salads and desserts. They did this challenge in Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty – Spencer did the puzzle challenge and lost. The purple team is Tasha, Joe, Ciera, Spencer and Fishbach. Green is pathetic at building their staircase – it’s Wentworth, Wigglesworth, Kimmi, Jeremy and Keith — and end up losing. Wasn’t even close.

Survivor recapConversation among the reward challenge winners: Ciera thinks if Jeremy is final three he wins. Tasha asks Ciera about Wiglesworth — everyone likes Wiglesworth she reminds. Point noted by all.

Back at camp Jeremy is looking for an idol. He finds a clue that includes a map to an idol. He waits patiently for everyone to go to bed, but on night 22 it’s like a party and they are all huddled around the camp fire having a good time. Jeremy gives up waiting and just heads out (claiming his stomach is sick) where he is able to find yet another immunity idol. Earlier he had professed his love to Val, his wife, and through tears he shared how desperately he wanted to win for her just to make her life a little easier. He’s a class act. Love him (although I didn’t like the way he voted tonight).

Immunity Challenge
It’s a balance challenge. They need to balance on triangular platforms in the water with their feet perched on really narrow slats. It’s pouring rain. Spencer and Tasha actually participated in this same challenge in Brains Vs. Brawn Vs. Beauty, but they both lost. For 10-minute intervals the group needs to balance on the platform.

SurvivorJust before the end of their first 10 minutes Jeff throws out some bait. The first person to swim to their respective buoy and touch it gets an advantage in the game. Spencer and Stephen take one second to think about it and dive in. Stephen gets there first and wins. They are both out of the immunity challenge.

After lasting 10 minutes on their platforms, the group transitions to the top of the platform. Wentworth falls first, and then (in no particular order) Wiglesworth, Jeremy, Ciera, Kimmi, and Tasha. Keith makes the transition but eventually falls. It eventually comes down to Joe and Abi, where after 29 minutes it comes down to balancing on one foot. Joe and Abi give a remarkable effort but Joe wins. That’s his fourth straight immunity challenge in a row that he has won. #BiggestTargetOnHisBack

As for that advantage Stephen won – it’s awesome – he gets to steal someone’s vote and use it for himself, so essentially he gets two votes while cancelling another. He’s going to hold on to that golden ticket for now.

Tribal Council
At Tribal Council it’s pouring rain, again. They are freezing. They can’t think straight. Play or get played, Ciera says. Get or get got, Joe agrees. It’s another blindside — this one, however, led partially by Fishbach. The votes go: Wigglesworth 5 (Jeremy, Fishbach and Spencer were bewitched joining Ciera, Abi and Wentworth in voting for her). Ciera 3. Wentworth 2.
Tasha, Keith, Joe and Kimmi had no idea that was coming – they quickly realize their alliance is crumbling.

Who went home on Survivor tonight?  Kelly Wiglesworth.
