Veterans Day 2015 TV programming

Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, is Veterans Day in the United States. It is the annual observance honoring people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

For Veterans Day 2015, there will again be a number of TV programs honoring the holiday, and the veterans whose day it is. Here is some of the notable programming.

Veterans Day 2015 TV Programming (All Times ET)

Duty, Honor, Courage Week — Nov. 9-15 on American Heroes Channel (AHC). AHC offers seven nights of its most patriotic programming, saluting the heroes who have served our country. Special themed episodes of AHC’s series and specials include Against the OddsD-Day to VictoryApocalypse: WWI and more. Programming airs 8-11pm each night.

Iwo Jima: From Combat to Comrades — Nov. 10 at 8pm on PBS (check local listings). Follow survivors of perhaps the fiercest battle of WWII as they return to Iwo Jima for a Reunion of Honor on the only battlefield where former enemies come together in shared remembrance. Hosted by Ryan Phillippe.

“Best Vets” Movie Marathon — Nov. 11 from 9am-5pm on AMC. Back-to-back airings of Steven Spielberg’s classic 1998 war film Saving Private Ryan.

Veterans Day Wreath-Laying Ceremony — Nov. 11 at 11am Live on C-SPAN. The annual Veterans Day National Ceremony begins with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns and continues inside the Memorial Amphitheater with a parade of colors by veterans’ organizations and remarks from dignitaries.

Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1 — Nov. 11 at 3:30pm on HBO. This documentary spotlights the traumas endured by America’s veterans, as seen through the work of a crisis hotline’s trained responders, who provide immediate intervention and support in hopes of saving the lives of service members.

The Concert for Valor — Nov. 11 at 4:15pm on HBO. A replay of last year’s concert honoring America’s veterans and their families, from the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

SEAL Dog — Nov. 11 at 8pm on Smithsonian Channel. This new one-hour special tells the story of former Navy SEAL Trevor Maroshek and his amazing war dog, Chopper (both pictured at top of page). For the last eight years, Trevor and Chopper have been inseparable, having trained together, fought together and even surfed together. Along the way, each one has saved the other’s life. Now in retirement, Chopper works as a therapy dog helping Trevor heal from the psychological and physical wounds of war.

Searching For Home: Coming Back From War — Nov. 11 at 9pm on Link TV and 9pm PT on KCET in Southern California. Kim Delaney (Army Wives) introduces viewers to this powerful documentary that explores the harrowing effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on military families after veterans return from combat spanning World War II to Afghanistan.

Armed Forces Classic — Nov. 13 at 7pm Live on ESPN. The Armed Forces Classic brings college basketball games to U.S. military bases around the globe. This year’s matchup between the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Gonzaga Bulldogs takes place in Okinawa, Japan.

The Honors: A Salute to American Heroes — Nov. 15 at 12pm on REELZ. Brave men and women who have served in the U.S. military will be honored during the annual American Veterans Center’s awards special. The first televised awards show honoring service members from across generations in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and today’s military, the two-hour showcase celebrates the many heroic achievements and triumphs by our country’s bravest.
