Survivor recap Episode 4: What’s the beef, Abi?

Survivor recap episoide 4

Survivor: Second Chance recap Season 31, Episode 4 (original airdate Oct. 14): While total respect goes to Andrew Savage for digging deep (I mean really deep, even beating out Jeremy) to win the reward challenge for team Angkor, it still wasn’t enough to turn around the tribe’s luck when it came to winning immunity. In the end Angkor headed back to Tribal Council where Jeff Varner was voted off on episode 4 of Survivor: Second Chance.

Survivor recap episoide 4Here’s the short version on how things went down. The feeble five (those who were left of Angkor) returned to their desolate camp — still no food, still no shelter — after voting off Peih-Gee. Varner was in shock that he survived being voted out. “I dodged a bullet,” he shares. “I came back from the challenge thinking I was gone, and I didn’t get one single vote.” Varner knows he’s in debt to Tasha, Savage and Abi, and that makes him sick.

Tasha and Savage were the bottom two last episode but now are in control, along with the unpredictable Abi. Abi, however, is bothered by Tasha because she took Woo aside for a private discussion and Woo just voted for her (again). Abi expresses her dissatisfaction but Tasha ain’t up for the crazy talk. Tasha tells her: “I didn’t blindside you. I had your back, so what’s the beef?” Abi’s beyond paranoia, which makes her completely unpredictable and completely enjoyable to have on the show.

At Bayon, Jeremy says he would love to be Stephen’s “JT,”and he thinks he could see himself being friends with him for the rest of his life. Jeremy’s got the idol. All is good

At Ta Keo, Kass is a new Kass. She knows she needs to change up her social game. Her strategic approach to this second chance actually involves the self-help book How To Win Friends and Influence People. Seriously, only Kass. Some of her takeaways include acting as sincere as she can and sympathizing with people. With that intelligence the former Chaos Kass creates a hand-beaded gift for Kelley’s birthday. Well played Kass.

Survivor recap episode 4Reward Challenge
The stakes are high for the starving Angkor tribe. The reward involves food and they need it desperately. This is the first reward challenge of the season and it requires the tribes to wade out in water to a raft that holds three sandbags. They need to retrieve each of the sandbags – one at a time — bring it back to shore and then use a plank (jumping on it) to catapult the sandbag into a basket. The first-place team gets a BBQ set and food. Second place gets a scaled-down version of the BBQ set. Third gets nada. Now the stinger — only one tribe member is competing. Jeff Probst calls it a hero’s challenge. It’s the old guys who step up to the plate for each team — a surprising move given how physically demanding the challenge is. If Joe ran this thing Ta Koe may have enjoyed a different outcome. Instead it was …
Savage for Angkor
Terry Dietz for Ta Koe
Jeremy for Bayon (the youngest and fittest of the three)
Savage makes a miracle comeback (and that’s running on empty, as his tribe has gone about four-days without food now) and wins the challenge. Dietz takes second. Jeremy, surprisingly, finishes last mainly because his shot was off.

Immunity Challenge
The immunity challenge was one of those blindfolded challenges where one tribe member calls out directives to their teammates. A lot of swearing and injuries as misguided team members ran into heavy, sharp objects. This one required the blindfoldees to gather over-sized, heavy puzzle pieces. Once the pieces were collected they could take off their buffs and put together a cubed puzzle.
Monica and Sierra sit it out.
Jeff is the caller for Angkor
Kass is the caller for Ta Kao.
Kimmi calls for Bayon. Damn she’s loud.
Who rocked It: Well, it pays to be loud as Kimmi leads her Bayon tribe to a first-place victory. Kass seemed like she was going to lose the challenge, until Joe went rogue and pretty much gathered all of the puzzle pieces. Eventually Kass turned her attention to Joe as it looked like a winning strategy and was able to pull off a second-place win for Ta Keo. Angkor could barely think in the end, as they were so physically gassed out. They lost.

The Aftermath: It’s déjà vu for Angkor. Looks like either Woo or Varner are going home. Abi is in the driver’s seat this time around. No surprise that she holds a grudge against Woo for voting for her twice. Varner never voted for Abi and he uses that to play her emotions. In the end Tasha, Abi, Savage and Woo vote for Varner. Varner is out.
