What happens after “happily ever after”? In Descendants, if you’re the hero and heroine of a Disney fairy tale, you live in the enchanted kingdom of Auradon — a land of beauty and possibility. But if you’re one of Disney’s legendary villains, you are exiled to the miserable and forbidden Isle of the Lost. Now, a benevolent young king — himself the heir of Beast and Belle from Beauty and the Beast — offers a chance at redemption to the four offspring of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella de Vil and Jafar with the opportunity to attend prep school in Auradon. Suddenly, the outcasts Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay are classmates with the children of the people their parents tried to destroy. Only time will tell if these evil teens follow in the footsteps of their wicked parents, but just because they have evil in their veins, it doesn’t mean they’re not good at heart.

Disney’s second summer musical of the year (Teen Beach 2 premiered June 26) is a spellbinding stunner with lavish effects worthy of the Disney name. The film boasts incredible talent including Kristin Chenoweth as the deliciously devious Maleficent, Kathy Najimy as the Evil Queen, Wendy Raquel Robinson as Cruella, and exceptional performances from young stars Dove Cameron (Liv and Maddie), Booboo Stewart (the Twilight films, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Cameron Boyce (Jessie), and fresh new stars Sofia Carson and Mitchell Hope.

The film’s core is the friendship among the four evil teens and their struggle between their nefarious natures and their desires to forge their own destinies, but scenes where Mal (Cameron) and Maleficent (Chenoweth) share the screen are the film’s best. Chenoweth — best known for playing the good witch Glinda in Broadway’s Wicked — shows her darker side as a baddie and steals every scene she’s in.

Emmy Award-winning Kenny Ortega directs, choreographs and executive produces the film, and with past projects of this musical magician including High School Musical and Michael Jackson’s This Is It, expect Ortega’s touch to turn Descendants into TV ratings gold.
