Devious Maids Season 3 Episode 9 Recap: Sleeping with the enemy

On the last episode of Devious Maids, Evelyn made it pretty clear that she would stop at nothing to get a child from the adoption agency, and pronto. While Adrian doesn’t know about Evelyn’s generous donation to the agency, he knows she wants a child and that she has been acting oddly nice to him since they came home. Upon returning home from the hospital, Evelyn finally reveals the surprise that she has waiting for Adrian — a kid! I don’t exactly think that’s a present Adrian wanted, but this should bring up an interesting discussion.

Adrian starts to wonder how on earth she was able to adopt a child so quickly, and that’s when she lets him in on her little secret of donating a small building that bumped her to the top of the list. Adrian says he doesn’t like the idea of her bribing her way into the situation, but I think that’s another way of saying he doesn’t want the kid. Evelyn lets Adrian know that they haven’t officially adopted Deion yet; they’re just fostering him. Adrian tries telling Evelyn that they’re not ready to start all over again, but she thinks that they’d be able to raise the next Obama. Did she really just say that?

Carmen can’t stop thinking about that awkward kiss between her and Jacklyn. After talking with Rosie and Zoila, she decides to go directly to Jacklyn to speak with her about what happened. While in her office, Carmen notices that Jacklyn kisses her other staff members the exact same, weird way. In the end, she still asks Jacklyn about the kiss, but brushes it off because she knows Jacklyn is married to a man and isn’t interested in women. That is until Carmen is about to leave when Jacklyn confesses how she can’t stop thinking about that moment either. She thought the two shared a special connection and, while they’re both straight, she thinks it’s time they both explore the other side. Carmen wasn’t thinking about any of that, but now she has to get herself out of this situation.

Devious-Maids-Season3-EP9-Carmen-SebastienCarmen explains everything that’s happened to Sebastien. While the two are together, Carmen gets a text from Jacklyn. She wants Carmen to meet with her as a date night, but Carmen doesn’t want to because she’s afraid of what could happen. Sebastien sees this as a perfect plan to allow him to break up with her without worrying about the prenup. He thinks that if he catches Jacklyn with Carmen, his problems will be solved. He grabs Carmen’s phone and tells Jacklyn that she’ll be there. Carmen doesn’t want to follow the plan but she just goes with it for now. Why doesn’t everybody just tell the truth for once? It might set them free so they could live a normal and happy life.

Rosie goes to Spence’s house because she needs help with Miguel and Ernesto took a trip to Mexico. We all know why Ernesto is in Mexico and can’t help out his son. Rosie found a Playboy type of magazine in Miguel’s bed and thinks he should have a man talk to him about the situation. Rosie appreciates that Spence is still there to be in Miguel’s life and help in these kinds of situations. I think Miguel and Spence developed such a strong bond that Spence could never leave his life no matter what happens between Spence and Rosie. It’s hard to find a guy like that today. Rosie better make sure whenever she makes her final decision, she’s never going to question it again.

Dr. Neff has made it pretty clear that he doesn’t want Zoila around anymore. He’s been criticizing her work and made her feel unwelcomed since he moved in. Let’s get things straight here Dr. Neff — this is more Zoila’s house than yours! I don’t know who you think you are to be bossing her around like that! To prove that she’s the best maid, Zoila goes to Genevieve’s to clean the entire house on her day off. Just as she’s done cleaning, she sees another maid in the house. Turns out Dr. Neff convinced Genevieve to hire his maid, Joy that he’s had for many years. How could Genevieve do such a thing?! She’s been with Zoila for 20 years! That’s longer than most marriages nowadays — and Genevieve would know. Genevieve lets Zoila know that this isn’t a permanent thing. She’s just going to have Joy around to help while Zoila’s pregnant because she can’t do all the things she used to. Zoila seems to be okay with the decision for now but I can already tell Zoila isn’t going to be too happy about another maid cleaning her house.

devious-maids-evelynAdrian comes up with a plan to get rid of Deion by telling him what’s happened at the house. He makes up scary ghost stories about the maid that was murdered there and the severed foot that they found at the home. The poor kid couldn’t sleep all night thanks to Adrian and by the next morning he wants to leave the house. Evelyn is furious with Adrian. Then the real emotions come out: Adrian says he doesn’t want to get attached again. He had a son before and he gave him all the love he could and now he’s gone. He doesn’t want to go through the same thing with another child. Evelyn tells Adrian that she goes through the same pain everyday, but they have to move on. Their son wouldn’t want them to be miserable every day.

Marisol wants Jesse to get a new job, and fast. She takes things into her own hands by going to the country club with Jesse’s resume. When Marisol tells them about Jesse, they immediately tell her no. Apparently Jesse worked there a few months ago and got fired after another employee said Jesse was violating club rules. That employee happens to be Louie Becker and it seems that he and Jesse got into quite a nasty altercation. The club advises Marisol to stay away from Jesse before she leaves with the new alarming news about her boyfriend. Yikes! I wonder what that was all about.

Turns out Miguel has a little crush on Katy. He tried to kiss her but things turned pretty ugly, quick. Katy pushed Miguel when he leaned in for a kiss and told him that she’d kill him and dance in his blood if he ever tried touching her again. Wow. She seems pretty serious about that threat. I can tell that Katy didn’t have sweet lullabies sung to her during bedtime in Mexico.

When Rosie goes to Taylor with this information, Taylor tries to brush it off. She tells Rosie that Katy had a rough childhood in Argentina, so she probably heard it then. Rosie tells Taylor that Katy told her the truth about being from Mexico and demands answers. Taylor finally cracks and tells Rosie that Katy witnessed her dad being murdered in Mexico while she was hiding in a closet. When they were murdering her dad, they said the exact same thing Katy told Miguel. The Stappords can’t say she’s from Mexico because she’s a witness and the men that killed her father are looking for her. Seems to make sense now that we know the truth about Ernesto and he seems to know her. Let’s hope she didn’t learn that from Ernesto.

At the sort-of date with Jacklyn, Sebastien is running late, so Carmen has to keep stalling. When Jacklyn goes in for a kiss, Carmen tells her she can’t do it. Jacklyn seems surprisingly happy to keep their relationship strictly professional when Carmen asks. Before leaving, Carmen tells Jacklyn that she shouldn’t be afraid to be happy in her life. If that doesn’t include her husband then she should divorce him and move on with her life so she can find that special someone that will make her happy. I think Carmen felt bad when Jacklyn was telling her how honest she thinks Carmen is, so she stopped with the setup.

Marisol stops by Jesse’s house to make him a surprise dinner. She purposefully forgets the main ingredient so she can have him run to the store. This allows her some time to snoop around his house and investigate whether or not he had any part in Louie’s murder. She eventually finds Jesse’s gun under his bed but she finds it just as he’s walking through the door. For some reason, when Jesse asks Marisol what she’s doing with the gun she points the gun right at him. When she asks why he has a gun Jesse has some pretty believable answers.

He tells her that after he found the hand he worried about his safety, so he bought the gun in order to protect himself and Marisol. Plus, he was in the military so he knows how to handle a gun. Marisol then asks what happened between him and Louie at the country club. Jesse tells Marisol that he caught Louie getting handsy with some of the women at the club and once he ratted him out, Louie made up lies in order to get Jesse fired. That also seems to make sense. Jesse says he never told Marisol about it because he was embarrassed. He takes the gun away from Marisol and has her leave. I’m not sure whether or not to believe Jesse. His answers seemed pretty believable but I don’t see everyone else in town getting a gun because of Louie’s murder.

When Sebastien comes home, he’s surprised to see Carmen isn’t there. Jacklyn tries to have him sit down so they can talk but he tells her that he needs to make a quick call first. It’s clear that he’s going to call Carmen and if I’m right, I’m pretty sure Carmen left her phone wedged in the couch. Sure enough, her phone starts ringing when Sebastien calls and Jacklyn is there to catch the two in their lies. Now that Jacklyn is Carmen’s boss, she can make her career a complete joke. Maybe Carmen will want to try another date night with Jacklyn to make it up to her.

Adrian really doesn’t seem to be into this whole adoptive dad thing. He makes a call to a private investigator and lets them know that he wants to find Deion’s birth parents. Where are you going with this one, Adrian? I doubt you’re going to convince them to take their son back if they’ve been away from him this long.

Devious-Maids-Season3-EP9-RosieRosie goes to Spence’s house to yell at him since Miguel said he was following his advice by kissing Katy. Rosie makes a comment about how if Ernesto were to be there, he would’ve been able to handle things better. Spence lets his true emotions out by telling Rosie how she ripped him apart by leaving him. Now he’s not only a bad husband but a bad father. He stood by her side while she was in a coma and it was so easy for her to leave him when Ernesto came back. Rosie leaves, not wanting to hear what he has to say. He does have a point. He took care of Miguel while Rosie was in a comma, even though Miguel isn’t his biological son. He could’ve not cared about Miguel or Rosie and left both of them in a time of need.

After Rosie leaves, Spence opens a door in his apartment to reveal Taylor sitting on his bed. She asks if he thinks Rosie knows about them and he tells her that she has no idea. WHAT?! Don’t tell me Spence is the one Taylor is cheating on Michael with! Then that means Spence is the guy Michael warned Marisol about when he told her Taylor was cheating on him. That also could mean that Spence had something to do with Blanca’s murder! I hope I’m just jumping to too many conclusions.

What were your thoughts on this episode of Devious Maids? What do you think Adrian is trying to uncover with his private investigator? Now that Jacklyn has figured out Carmen and Sebastien are together, what do you think she’s going to do? I know Carmen meant what she said about Jacklyn trying to find happiness but Jacklyn is going to take that as her trying to move in on her man. How do you feel about Dr. Neff? I think it’s weird that he’s some rich doctor who has to move into his girlfriend’s home. What would you do if you were in Marisol’s position? Do you believe Jesse? What the heck is going on between Spence and Taylor?! They can’t be together, right? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
