Memorial Day 2015 TV programming

Memorial Day 2015 in the United States is Monday, May 25. As always, there will be plenty of programming on this day, and over the four-day weekend, related to the holiday. Here is some of the notable Memorial Day 2015 TV programming. All times Eastern.

Salute to Sacrifice programming event — May 22-25 on American Heroes Channel (AHC). This Memorial Day weekend, join AHC in giving thanks to our fallen soldiers with SALUTE TO SACRIFICE, a four-day programming event that honors our veterans and remembers those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. SALUTE TO SACRIFICE culminates on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th with the world premiere of the two-part special STORMING NORMANDY.

NBA Eastern Conference Finals: Atlanta Hawks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers, Game 2 — May 22 at 8:30pm Live on TNT.

War Heroes Weekend — May 23-25 on AMC. Three days of war films, themed by day. May 23 is “Classic War Saturday,” with movies such as The Dirty Dozen and Midway; Sunday is “Rambo Sunday,” featuring Sylvester Stallone’s original Rambo trilogy; Monday is “Saving Private Ryan Monday,” with three straight airings of Steven Spielberg’s 1998 classic beginning at 10am.

Memorial Day Marathon — May 23-25 on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). Three days of war films, with a nice variety covering most of America’s major conflicts, approached from different angles, with titles ranging from Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo (1944), to Glory (1989), to M*A*S*H (1970) and many more.

The Grill of Victory — May 23 at 2pm and 3pm on Travel Channel. This program brings a competitive twist to the growing subculture of passionate hobbyists building the most insane, tricked-out grills around. In each episode, three teams attend each other’s “Rig Digs” and score them based on Rig, Dig and Food. In the end, the builder with the highest score takes home a cash prize and bragging rights

Hoarding: Buried Alive Marathon — May 23 from 3pm-midnight on TLC.

Monster Squid: The Giant Is Real — May 23 at 6pm on Animal Planet.

born-on-the-fourth-of-julyBorn on the Fourth of July — May 23 at 7pm on USA Network. As part of its Characters Unite Film Series, USA is airing Oliver Stone’s 1989 drama Born on the Fourth of July with limited commercials. The film is based on a true story and will be introduced by its star, Tom Cruise, who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance as Ron Kovic, who suffers a crippling injury during his tour in Vietnam and faces indifference and discrimination upon his return home. “Born on the Fourth of July is a powerful look at the challenges faced by our nation’s veterans, not only in battle but long afterwards,” said Bonnie Hammer, Chairman, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “It’s a timely reminder this Memorial Day weekend of the respect we owe the young men and women who sacrifice so much in these perpetually troubled times.”

Formula One Racing: The Grand Prix of Monaco in Monte Carlo — May 24 beginning at  7:30am on NBC.

Alaskan Bush People Marathon — May 24 from 9am-4pm on Discovery Channel.

Indianapolis 500 Pre-Race — May 24 at 11am Live on ABC.

Bar Rescue Marathon —  May 24 from 11am-4am on Spike.

2015 Indianapolis 500 — May 24 at noon Live on ABC.

101 Amazing Thrills — May 24 beginning at 3pm on Travel Channel. From roller coasters and water slides, to amazing zip lines, whitewater rafting and everything in between, this program is counting down 101 of the best thrills and attractions in the world. Five straight hourlong episodes air today.

Naked and Afraid Marathon — May 24 from 4pm-midnight on Discovery Channel.

Megalodon: The Extended Cut — May 24 at 7pm on Animal Planet.

MLB Baseball: Texas Rangers at New York Yankees — May 24 at 8pm Live on ESPN.

NHL Eastern Conference Final: Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New York Rangers, Game 5 (if necessary) — May 24 at 8pm Live on NBC Sports.

memorial-day-concertNational Memorial Day Concert 2015 — May 24 at 8pm Live on PBS; encore at 9:30pm (check local listings). Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise co-host the 26th broadcast of this night of remembrance honoring the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform, their families at home and all those who have given their lives for our country. The concert airs live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol before an audience of hundreds of thousands, millions at home, and to our troops around the world via American Forces Network.

Memorial Day Movie Marathon — May 25 beginning at 6:45am on Sony Movie Channel. A patriotic lineup of 14 World War II and military classics, including Hellcats of the Navy (1957), Iron Eagle (1986) and more.

River Monsters Marathon — May 25 from 9am-10:05pm on Animal Planet.

Street Outlaws Marathon — May 25 from 9am-10pm on Discovery Channel. 

Friday Night Lights Marathon — May 25 from 9:30am-8pm on CMT. An airing of the feature film Friday Night Lights, followed by a marathon of episodes from the acclaimed FNL series beginning at noon. Jessie James Decker hosts the marathon.

Cops Marathon — May 25 from 10am-10pm on Spike.

MLB Baseball: Kansas City Royals vs. New York Yankees — May 25 at 1pm Live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.

NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship — May 25 at 1pm on ESPN2.

House Hunters and Tiny House Hunters Marathon — May 25 from 1pm-8pm on  HGTV.

Little Couple Marathon — May 25 from 3pm-midnight on TLC.

MLB Baseball: Detroit Tigers vs. Oakland Athletics — May 25 at 4pm Live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.

River Monsters: “Jurassic-Sized Prehistoric Terror” — May 25 at 8pm on Animal Planet. Monster Week comes to a close with this two-hour season finale episode of River Monsters in which Jeremy Wade uncovers horrifying killers from the depths of time.

Texas Rising — Begins May 25 at 9pm on History. History’s latest event series airs over 10 hours and five nights, and tells the story of the Texas Revolution and the rise of the Texas Rangers. Bill Paxton, Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta,  Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Thomas Jane, Olivier Martinez and Kris Kristofferson are among the all-star cast.

Driving America — May 25 at 9pm on National Geographic Channel. This two-hour special takes a look at the social, political and economic impact of the automobile on America.

NHL Western Conference Final: Anaheim Ducks vs. Chicago Blackhawks, Game 5 (if necessary) — May 25 at 9pm Live on NBC Sports.

The Homefront — May 25 at 9pm on PBS (check local listings). This two-hour documentary takes a rare, in-depth look at how a new generation of military family has learned to cope with having loved ones deployed overseas for multiple tours over many years.

The Last Alaskans — May 25 at 10pm on Animal Planet. This eight-part original documentary series follows the lives of the last humans allowed to live in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. After a one-hour premiere tonight, new episodes will air Sundays starting May 31.

The 2015 Kingsford Invitational — May 25 at 10pm on Destination America. The third annual Kingsford Invitational brings the best pitmasters in the country to New York City for the ultimate BBQ showdown.  Kingsford has invited winners of America’s top BBQ contests plus a wild card team made up of New York City BBQ chefs to find out who is truly the best of the best.  It’s winner-take-all with the biggest prize in competition BBQ on line. One of the six teams will walk away with $50,000 dollars and the Kingsford Invitational Champion title.
