WWE Monday Night Raw results 5/4/15: Dean Ambrose is last man standing

It was a night of surprises and great matches on this week’s “Monday Night Raw” on USA Network from Montreal.

Dean Ambrose was the last man standing at the close of the event. The “Lunatic Fringe” won his way into the WWE world championship match at Payback on May 17 by defeating Seth Rollins.

He joins Roman Reigns, Randy Orton and Rollins to make it a fatal 4-way. This means every member of The Shield is now in the title hunt. Rollins and Ambrose delivered one of the best television matches in some time. The two talented performers stole the show and had the hot Canadian crowd on their feet during the many near falls. Kane and Rollins’ love-hate relationship paid off for Ambrose.

The audience was treated to another standout match when NXT’s Sami Zayn made his main roster debut against United States champion John Cena. Zayn may have lost, but left a winner with a tremendous outing. He got to perform on Raw for the first time, in his hometown, facing the biggest name in WWE today with an introduction from the legendary Bret Hart. One day Heath Slater will get his crack at the U.S. title.

Tag champions the New Day were a big focal point of the show. Big E, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston were featured in a number of segments throughout the evening. The trio scored a monumental win over Orton and Reigns to kick off what would be a rollercoaster ride of an evening. Fans chant “New Day Sucks,” but they are gaining more momentum and have become one of the most entertaining acts to come down the pipe.

Reigns and Orton pulled double duty competing in a match against each other, which saw interference from Kane and J&J Security. This led to a free-for-all involving all of the Payback participants.

Kudos to Ryback for turning the Montreal fans to his side. The “Big Guy” continued building his feud with Bray Wyatt. King Barrett and Sheamus were victorious against Dolph Ziggler and Neville. In other tag team action, Tyson Kidd and Cesaro with Natalya defeated the Ascension. I miss the NXT Ascension. Stardust defeated R-Truth after scaring him with a bag of plastic spiders. You can’t make this stuff up.

Tamina returned from injury by joining Naomi in her fight with the Bella Twins. It’s nice to see the divas’ division have some though put into it. Speaking of divas, the popularity of Lana is growing each week. Lana Fandangoing with Fandango was fun to see. The dancing stopped when Rusev applied his Accolade submission to Fandango. The “Ravishing Russian” definitely has a Sable-like quality going for her, meaning Rusev is the Marc Mero in this scenario.

This was one of the best Raw episodes in some time. A lively Canadian crowd helped give the show a post-WrestleMania Raw glow. Let’s hope WWE keeps it going.
