ABC plans two days of General Hospital live broadcasts

Hearkening back to the era of live TV and radio, when many soap operas got their starts, ABC’s daytime drama General Hospital will broadcast live from Los Angeles for two episodes. One episode will air on Friday, May 15, and another on Monday, May 18.

“Taking such an iconic show as General Hospital live for two days is both exhilarating and risky,” said executive producer Frank Valentini, in a release, about the two upcoming live broadcasts of GH. “I am enormously proud of our cast, crew and staff for all their tireless dedication and hard work that will be leading up to this daytime television event. It’s live television and absolutely anything can happen, but that is what’s fun about this and we’re absolutely up to the challenge.”

Fans can join in the conversation around the live event on Twitter using the hashtag #GHLive.

General Hospital recently celebrated its 52nd anniversary on April 1, and has just been nominated for 28 Daytime Emmys.

Also of note for GH fans, as another part of ABC’s sweeps programming in May, the annual General Hospital Nurses’ Ball will return, in episodes airing May 1, May 4 and May 5.

General Hospital airs weekdays at 2pm ET/1pm PT on ABC.
