The Bachelor finale – did he pick the right woman?

In The Bachelor finale, Chris Soules,  who is “falling in love with two people,” brings the finalists home to his farm Bachelor finale Chris Soules stands in his barnin Iowa to meet his small-town farmer family.

Whitney kicks off the hometown dates and gets just about as friendly as any one person should. Whatever, at least her speech was cute at the dinner table. She begins to talk about her love for Chris and chokes up, expressing her gratitude for the experience and she said, “I want you to know how much I love your son … And I really appreciate being here.”

While Whitney finds herself certain that Chris, as Chris’ mom said, “Is her (Whitney’s) dream,” Chris expresses his hesitations about committing to Whitney and the fact that “there is another girl he really likes.”

OK Chris, we all know you like Becca more let’s not kid ourselves here. As Chris talks to his brothers in a beer-and-barn sesh (typical Midwestern men), he literally cannot stop gushing about Becca. It’s all Becca, Becca, Becca. Just marry her all ready.

However, with Becca there are some hesitations. First of all, she isn’t sure about the whole “I’m in love with Chris” thing. Since she has never been in love before, she doesn’t really understand how it is all supposed to work. Understandable. Second, she’s not as I-love-everything as Whitney is. It’s much harder to get a read on Becca, and Chris’ brother picks up on that comparing Becca to the hypothetical “girl at the bar that nobody can talk to.”

Becca meets Chris’ family on a much-anticipated hometown date. While Chris claims he is “on the same page” with both women, seeing him with Becca allows his real desires to shine through.

But, Chris’ sisters do no share the same enthusiasm about Becca. The fact that Becca expresses her need to try out a long-distance relationship before moving to Iowa presents a red flag in the mind of the sisters and displays Becca’s uneasiness about committing to a marriage with Chris.

While the sisters jump on the Whitney bandwagon, Chris’ dad sums up pretty much what everyone has been thinking that watches the show. He said,” Whitney is the sure thing, but I think Becca is who he loves. I think he will take the risky path.” Even Daddy is on team Becca.

Chris then takes a night to speak with Becca about the future. Feeling unsure, Chris asks Becca some toughies, like “Do you see yourself being part of small town life?” And the big boy: “Why don’t you feel like you’re in love with me?” You know, just the usual conversation starters.

Becca fields the questions well, and expresses that she doesn’t know why she isn’t sure, but that she “wants [him] and that’s all [she] knows.” However, Becca also stated that she “can’t make any promises” and that she is still “trying to figure this all out.”

It really makes sense that’s she unsure; you would have to be insane (Whitney) to truly believe that a TV show, like The Bachelor, can accurately present you with the most important person in your life, like your husband. The hesitations are warranted, and rather than viewing those apprehensions as a red flag, Chris and his family should have viewed them as a piece of authenticity that speaks to Becca’s true character and values. But, what do I know; I’m just the blogger.

Next, Chris spends the day with Whitney, who loves everything, even Chris’ sad farm life. She expresses that “there is no better feeling than seeing Chris in his happy place” like nine times, and manages to embrace the “simple life” in only a couple hours of being on the farm.

Bachelor_whitney_chrisWhitney is so happy with Chris, and while I admire that, I also feel immensely annoyed by it. No one can be that happy on that farm, not even Whitney, the happiest (and squeakiest) person on this show. While she really seems to love Chis, their romance is so cookie-cutter Bachelor-stereotypical that it seriously bores me. Whitney makes the most sense, but is love supposed to make sense, or feel right? Again, I’m just the blogger so I’ll shut up (go Becca!).

After bringing the ladies home and spending one last date with each of the ladies, Chris prepares to propose. The two remaining women possess two very different strengths and weaknesses.

Bachelor_BeccaBecca, on one hand, has so many admirable qualities, in the eyes of Chris, that he can’t even articulate them. While she remains uncertain of the future, she feels fearful of committing to Chris but not wanting to move to Arlington, Iowa.

Whitney, loves Chirs, and is so sure that she wants to spend the rest of her life with him. She deeply desires to be loved and be part of a family. Whitney is great; she just annoys me.

OK, so I guess Whitney is a better fit, but, well, we all know how I feel about her. I’ll just leave it at that.

Then, comes the proposal everyone has been waiting for. Chris proposes in a barn, (wow, such an exciting season) and walks away with his wife.

First, Chris Harrison brings in Becca. While Chris said, “ I know that I can see [Becca] as being my wife,” he also said that “[she] is not really ready,” and Chris sends Becca on her way. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. To say I wasn’t surprised is pretty accurate.

What was weird about Chris sending Becca home was that she didn’t cry or show any emotion … like at all. I guess that’s a telltale sign that it wasn’t meant to be.

Now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for! THE PROPOSAL. I’m not usually a sappy/sentimental/emotional person but AWH I love proposals. Chris knows that Whitney is perfect for him, and Whitney knows that she loves Chris “so much” so why wouldn’t they get married. Do the math.

Bachelor_whitney_chris2Even though I spent most of the season hating on Whitney and Chris, I’m glad they’re happy, and I’m thankful I don’t have to see any more mears (man tears) or nasty make-outs.

Following up on the After the Final Rose episode, Becca shows up and literally said the same thing she said after she got booted. Yes, Becca, we know you are upset but can we get some real emotions here?? Whatever, she’s still fab.

Chris and Whitney seem super happy even though they have not moved yet or set a date for their wedding.

Jimmy Kimmel also makes an appearance and brings a cow — just the usual gift for every new couple.

AND THEN THE CRAZIEST ANNOUNCEMENT IS MADE … THERE WILL BE TWO BACHELORETTES. Yes, two. Britt AND Kaitlyn will compete for love on next season of The Bachelorette. Contrary to the faces in the crowd, I like this idea, even though I don’t really get it, and I’m so happy because Britt and Kaitlyn are both awesome.

  1. Becca may have won his heart, but she would not have been a good match for him, she is set in her ways, she does not want to be tied, I believe his best recourse would have been not to pick either, not to pick Whitney as a last resort, but I hope things work out,…

  2. chris is a big chicken he should have dropped everything for the woman he loves Becca but he picked Whitney just to be on the safe side it is sickening

  3. Chris must have felt the pressure from his Sisters and the pressure to make a proposal to one of the two women as it is the norm in The Bachelor. I doubt if his superficial relationship with Whitney will stand the test of time. Chris and the most observant viewing public knows Becca won his heart.
