5 Questions with Baby Daddy’s Derek Theler

BabyDaddy_DerekThelerDerek Theler plays charming hockey player Danny Wheeler on the ABC Family’s comedy, Baby Daddy. In a special two-part crossover event, General Hospital’s Kelly Monaco guest starred on the Feb. 4 episode of Baby Daddy and on Feb. 13, Theler and co-star Melissa Peterman will star on the Valentine’s Day episode of General Hospital. At the end of my chat with Monaco and Theler about the double swap, Theler shared that the soap’s rapid pace was a challenge, but that the experience taught him to be a “smaller” actor. Then he answered our 5 Questions…

1. You’re at a magazine rack and can only pick three titles. Which ones do you choose?
I would go for National Geographic, Entertainment Weekly — it’s good to know what’s going on in the biz, and Men’s Fitness.

2. If your TV carried just three shows or networks, what would they be?
I love the Discovery Channel; I like survival shows. I’m excited for Game of Thrones to come back and Black Sails. Those are some of my favorites, for sure.

3. What are three things you have to have in your fridge or pantry?
I’m going to have a big, fat steak that’s ready to grill. Whole, chocolate milk — made with Vitamin D milk — because that’s my favorite, and a bag of pistachios.

4. What has been your strangest fan encounter?
I recently had somebody follow me from the set to my home, which was weird. I tried to loose him on the way, but they were waving at me from his car. I lost him, and got to my house, safely, and I was supposed to meet my friend, who was at my house. As we were leaving my house, we found them walking around the street, so I stopped to say hi to them. I figured that they didn’t know where I lived, so it was okay.

5. Tell us about a time when you were star struck.
I get star struck all of the time, but the one thing I remember most, I went to an Emmy party and Charlize Theron was there. We were all doing our thing and that woman walked in and the whole place stopped. Everyone just stared at her. Nobody was moving, nobody was talking, the music stopped, and she just kind of floated through the place. She didn’t lock eyes with anybody, but it was pretty surreal.
