TCA: The Night Shift; Season 2 Plot Details

The Night ShiftThe Night Shift, NBC’s surprise summer hit, premieres it’s sophomore season on Feb 23. When show EP Gabe Sachs got the call from network brass that the show was being picked up and moved to the prime post-Voice time slot, he says he was thrilled.

Actress Jill Flint revealed she’s happy to juggle roles on The Night Shift and The Good Wife over at CBS, but says “The Night Shift is my home.”

Big news out of the TCA panel was that Rick will return in Season 2, so Luke MacFarlane fans rejoice! Brendan Fehr, whose character Drew is lovers with Macfarlane’s Rick says, “It’s a storyline that I look forward to people seeing.”

Other plot info that came out of the TCA panel was the this season, TC (Eoin Macken) begin to care more about Jordan (Flint), and we finally get to see the happy side of their relationship, as last season, we mostly saw their characters at odds with each other.

Freddy Rodriquez says his character, Michael Ragos, won’t be as uptight as in Season 1. Last season his character dealt with a tumor behind his eye and EP Gabe Sachs says that Michael is looking at himself as having a second chance at life.

Obviously, NBC had great success in medical drama ER, but Executive producer Jeff Judah says The Night Shift is more influenced by the movie MASH than ER. And Judah, who has a close friend who is an ER doctor says the show uses “moments of comedy in the darkness,” just like emergency room doctors do, to alleviate the tremendous stress of their jobs.
