Super Sunday School: Viewers guide to Super Bowl 2015 with TV info, commercials preview, halftime preview and more!
What’s All This? Super Bowl XLIX, an American professional football contest between the NFL’s AFC (New England Patriots) and NFC (Seattle Seahawks) champions. The winner gets the Lombardi Trophy, T-shirts that fit poorly over football pads, and hats with tags still attached.
What’s XLIX In Regular Numbers? 49. Roman rule will be shrugged off just for Super Bowl 50, dashing all our hopes to see a Super Bowl L.
When/Where Is It? Sunday, Feb. 1, at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. Kickoff is scheduled for approximately 6:30pm ET.
Is It Televised? Why, yes! NBC will air the game live, preceded by hours upon hours of pregame noise. Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth call the game with sideline reporter Michele Tafoya.
Halftime? Pop star Katy Perry caterwauls and suggestively gyrates at the intermission. Guest Lenny Kravitz is gonna go her way. The national anthem will be sung by
Adele Dazeem Idina Menzel, followed by John Legend singing “America the Beautiul.”
Wardrobe Malfunctions? One can only hope.
Is Gambling Involved? You bet! The total action in Nevada casinos was a record $119.4 million for Super Bowl XLVIII. Suckers gave Vegas an all-time high $19.7 profit.
What About Advertisements? Brands will pay NBC $4.5 million for 30 seconds of your attention this year, and there will be close to a dozen first-time Super Bowl advertisers, such as Carnival cruises, Skittles and something called Wix.com. GoDaddy has abandoned cleavage for a cute puppy, but horses will still pitch beer … also with puppies!
Will There Be Football? [Sigh] We suppose. Let’s face it: It was the worst season in NFL history. It was bad from the beginning and it should end badly, as well, with something like a 5-0 New England Patriots victory.
What’s On After Bad Football? NBC airs a two-part midseason premiere of The Blacklist, featuring Ron Perlman playing a guest villain.
